Filtres for this are already built in you don't have to create a smart album. You could create a smart album from the filters though if you wanted to save the selection.

I have imported several LR catalogs, not as big as your one but it was much much quicker. I wouldn't expect to measure the import in days just a few hours.

The only problem with that workflow is huge tif files, I would probably use Aperture instead of Lightroom too if I went down that route as I find it even more powerful as an asset management system...

Only images stored within the catalog can go into the catalog trash. Referenced images can't go in there.

CO already has that feature in the brush settings.

At present I would rather they made "round tripping" to an external editor like PS easier. It wouldn't take much to add this functionality as 90% of it is there already in the export recipe section...

I have just experienced the same issue, on my old Nikon D50 images I can't even get the colour dropper to pick a colour. I tried the v8 and v9 engines. Its fine on my D800 and Sony A7II images.
