Feature walkthrough
Wireless tethering for Fujifilm cameras
Capture One 16.2 introduces the ability to wirelessly tether select Fujifilm cameras.
Supported cameras as of Capture One 16.2:
- Fujifilm X-T5
- Fujifilm X-H2
- Fujifilm X-H2s
In addition to working wirelessly, tethering also works via network cable using the Fujifilm FT-HX grip with a compatible camera.

Face Focus in Cull & Importer
Immediately evaluate sharpness and facial expression of your subjects when culling in the Importer or the Cull window.
Face Focus is available from the top menu when the large Viewer is enabled.
It has five different options for the zoom level:
- 50%
- 100%
- 200%
- Limit to Eye
- Limit to Face
The two options for limiting the zoom level will make sure Face Focus doesn’t zoom in too much if the eye or face of your subject are very big compared to the resolution.
However, they will not zoom in more than 100% to make sure a proper sharpness evaluation is possible.
Auto Dust Removal (BETA)
Remove dust spots from your photos in a single click.
The old Spot Removal tool has been reworked to focus on Dust Removal with an AI-driven automatic removal option.
Automatically removing dust works both on individual images and batches. The default shortcut is Opt/Alt + O.
The cursor tool is still available for manually removing dust spots. The dust and spot have been split into two separate cursor tools instead of a shared tool. The new feature will be launched in a beta mode as we are still working on improving the image quality. Removing dust might leave a visible trace in some images.
Custom Shortcuts (Styles & ‘Edit With...’)
From the Shortcut Manager you can now assign shortcuts to Styles and Presets as well as sending images to other applications through ‘Edit With...’.
Additionally, you can right-click a Style or Preset to directly access the Custom Shortcuts section of the Shortcut Manager.
Integration with Frame.io (Mac only)
You can now connect to your Frame.io account within Capture One Pro, import images from there and publish images back.
How to connect to your Frame.io account:
You will be asked to log into your Frame.io account the first time you try to use the feature.
- You will have an opportunity to login from the “import” workflow that is described below
- You will also have an opportunity to login from the publish workflow that is described below
Your login will be preserved over a period of 30 days and this period will be refreshed each time you log in.
How to import images from your Frame.io account:
You can import images stored in Frame.io by using the “Cloud Transfer” tool, located in the main toolbar. If you don’t have the “Cloud Transfer” icon in your main toolbar, right click on it, choose “Customize” and drag the “Cloud Transfer” button to your preferred position in the main toolbar.
Clicking on the “Cloud Transfer” icon will open a dialog box, asking you where to import from and where to import to. Choose “Frame.io” as a source.
This will take you through a few steps to navigate within Frame.io account and select the right account, team, and project.
Once you have selected your desired project, choose the destination folder in the “Import to” section.
Press the “Import” button, and the images will be transferred. Other file types will not be transferred.
How to publish images back to your Frame.io account:
Once you are done with your images and would like to push them back to your Frame.io account, select all of them, right click, and choose publish > Frame.io
This will open a new window that resembles the export panel, where you can choose export settings.
You will need to specify a name for a project and folder for these images. If a folder with a similar name already exists in the specified project, it will re-use the name and publish the images there.
This is still the case even if you decide to use Version Stacking in Frame.io: the images will be stacked in their original folder if you have ticked this option and will disregard the destination folder specified. The images that are not part of a version stack will be saved in the specified folder.
Improvements
Improved Smart Adjustments consistency
Smart Adjustments will apply adjustments with higher consistency when applied to batches.
Using AI to determine similar images, Smart Adjustments will make sure that adjustments are applied in a way that improves consistency compared to previous versions. This will unify the white balance and exposure between similar images in most instances.
Keep in mind that consistency is achieved only when applying Smart Adjustments or Smart Styles to batches of images. If applied to individual images, Capture One does not know if they are part of a similar batch of images or not.
Faster preview generation
Performance improvements for generation of large previews (above 3000 px) for RAWs + all size previews for DNGs.
- Raw files: up to 27% faster*
- DNG files: up to 44% faster*
The improved generation of previews will also impact tethering and reduce the time from trigger to sharp rendering. This is now up 19% faster*
*Speedup depends on preview size and file format
Email notifications for Capture One Live
You will now receive two different notifications from your online collections:
- A reminder three days before your online collection expires
- A collection of the comments made on your images when your online collection expires or when you decide to stop sharing
New reviewer roles for Capture One Live
Two new roles are available for your reviewers:
- Can rate and comment: your reviewer will not get the ability to change color tags on images, but will be allowed to change star ratings and leave comments
- Can tag and comment: your reviewer will not get the ability to change star ratings on images, but will be allowed to change color tags and leave comments

Enabled the purple fringing tool on JPEG files
Fixed an issue where some special characters on non-English keyboards could not be used as shortcuts

Due to the significant additional calculation overhead, systems using 4k/5k monitors will require additional resources in addition to the above-recommended spec (both in GPU and CPU power). For professional experience, we recommend at least doubling the specification above for these configurations.
Installation
The latest version of Capture One is compatible with the earlier 7.x, 8.x, 9.x, 10.x, 11.x, 12.x versions. It is recommended to migrate images from 4.x, 5.x., and 6.x to version 8.x before opening them in the latest version of the app. It is generally recommended that you only install one version of Capture One on any single computer. A single-user license allows up to 3 activations on computers that you own or of which you are the principal user. The license can be used with both Windows and Mac platforms. Multi-user licenses are also available from the Capture One web shop or from your retailer. Please read the release notes carefully before you install Capture One.
Install on Windows
To install the software please follow the procedure below.
- Download the application from the Capture One website.
- Run the executable software install file (.exe).
- Carefully read and accept the license agreement presented.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. Capture One will initiate the installation of Microsoft® .NET Framework 4.7 if you do not already have it.
Install on macOS
To install the software please follow the procedure below.
- Download the application from the Capture One website.
- Open the Capture One disk icon (.dmg).
- Carefully read and accept the license agreement presented.
- Drag the Capture One icon to the Applications folder.
- Open Capture One from your Applications folder.
Manual update to the latest version
It is important to keep Capture One software updated. After the activation and registration, you will usually receive a newsletter reminder that an update is ready for download, although it can be more convenient to choose Capture One -> Check for Updates (Help -> Check for Updates on Windows). If your Capture One application is downloaded from www.captureone.com, it will always be the latest version. You can also schedule an automated update if needed by navigating to Capture One -> Preferences (Edit -> Preferences on Windows).
Recommendations and limitations
For all users
- When you have disconnected a camera, do not reconnect a camera until the Camera tool status changes to "No Camera Attached".
- DNG support not optimized for some cameras.
For other camera users
- The following functionality is not supported for Fujifilm X-trans RAW files: processing/exporting to DNG.
- Some cameras provide multishot functionality by way of (e.g.) multiple exposures or pixel shifting. In most cases, the functionality will not be available in Capture One, however, a single RAW file from the “stack” may be viewable and editable in Capture One (as if it was a shot in single Capture mode).
For digital back users
- Unless otherwise specified for your Phase One camera system, do not open the shutter on the camera prior to opening the Live View window. Doing so will generate errors on the digital back after closing the Live View window. The recommended procedure for using Live View is to first open the Live View window, then open the shutter on the camera, use Live View as desired, when done, close the shutter on the camera, and close the Live View window.
- Focus controls for iXR and iXA cameras are only supported by IQ and Credo backs.
Known Issues
Find a list of known issues for Capture One at the time of shipping.
All users
- Browsing folders containing unsupported image files may affect application performance.
- Previews from earlier versions of Capture One may be updated. In some cases, this can affect the application performance the first-time images are viewed in this version of Capture One.
- Using a non-US laptop keyboard might be preferable to change some of the standard keyboard shortcuts.
- Editing images in external applications other than Adobe Photoshop might result in unexpected behavior.
- Operation under virtualization software (e.g. Parallels, Hackintosh, etc) may cause instability. We do not recommend you use these OS configurations.
Mac users
- Live View over USB can stall without the use of a repeater.
Windows users
- Windows drivers are required for some older models of Canon DSLR cameras to be able to shoot tethered. These drivers are available from Canon’s website.
- Importing a catalog can result in the last picture not getting imported.
- Operation under RAMDisk by Dataram is known to cause issues with disk labeling. Capture One is not supported with this configuration.
- If you have Bonjour 2.0.3 installed, you may experience problems with Capture Pilot. Bonjour 2.0.2 (shipping with Capture One 9) and 2.0.4 (shipped with iTunes) have been tested to work with Capture Pilot. To check the version number of Bonjour, go to 'Control
Panel' and select ‘Programs and Features’. - Plays.TV/Raptr/RivaTuner installed along with some AMD devices can cause instability.
File support: Notes and limitations

HEIC/HEIF support
- Capture One supports HEIC/HEIF 8-bit files to the extent that the operating system supports the files. If you are on a Windows computer, you might need to download the two extensions “HEVC Video Extensions” and “HEIF Image Extensions” from Microsoft to enable support in Capture One.
Capture One DNG colors
- DNG files from camera models with native support in Capture One will per default have their native Capture One colors applied. DNG files from camera models that are not natively supported in Capture One will have generic DNG Standard colors applied.
- We do not support adjustments and settings from other applications embedded in DNG files.
Other file support
- TIF/JPG/PSD/PNG files that are not in RGB color space cannot be adjusted within Capture One and will be read-only.
- Layered Tiff: Capture One 9.1 onward can support Tiff files with alpha channel or layers saved in the file (from other apps like Adobe Photoshop) but for viewing purposes only. Reprocessing the image will result in a new flattened image.
- PSD: Capture 10.1 onward can support PSD files in the viewer. The PSD can contain any adjustments, layers, text or smart objects but must be saved in Photoshop with “maximize compatibility” enabled. Reprocessing the image from Capture One will result in a new flattened image.
File size limitations
- Smallest supported file for viewing: minimum side of 16 pixels.
- Smallest supported file for editing: minimum side of 512 pixels.
- Largest supported file: 715 megapixels or 65,000 pixels on the longest edge.
Camera support
- RAW files support with known limitations listed in the notes section is available here . Special or auxiliary modes (like pixel shift) are only supported if noted. Wooow! You have introduced compatibility with the Nikon Z8 very quickly! While for Panasonic S5II owners you just don't give a damn at all. More than 6 months later, compatibility is, as you say, "...just around the corner."

"User Experience & Performance Improvements" under New features and functionality should be as a separate section not as feature. So please make it as separate section - refer 16.1.0 release notes.
My licence code for COP 23 from 1st of March does not work.
I get the message "Ungültiger Lizenzcode". What can or have I to do to solve tihis?
I removed COP 23.2 from my computer and installed 23.1.3 again and it works fine.
So I wait until the new Version 23.2 will be shown in COP under updates and hope this helps or the problem with licence code is fixed then.

Also for me the update from 16.1.3 to 16.2 gets authenticated online but license code not accepted. Went to c1 23 on march 20th '23. I thought i could update/upgrade till 30th september 2023? Am i incorrect about this assumption?

frame.io? I don't even know what it is... Why prioritize this over Flickr? Both Adobe Lightroom and DxO Photolab have integrated Flickr support.
Mac Studio 2022, Sony A1, C1 16.2 - it takes up to 5 sec+ to load an image. It's extremely slow again! I tried to reactivate a support case, without luck.
Anyone else have some Styles disappear? After upgrading to 16.2.0 my IQ styles are gone. Specifically IQ Professor.
Anyone install 16.2 on MAC OS 13.3.1? CO release notes states builds up to 13.3. Any issues with running under 13.3.1?

Yes, you are right. For me, too, the IQ styles have disappeared from the so-called "included styles". I didn't notice this immediately because I rarely used them.
To be honest, I find this "upgrade" more disappointing than promising. The only useful tool is still in the beta phase for a good reason. Everything else is worth a small update, nothing more. The small picture in the Face Focus in Cull & Importer is far too small to be able to judge it. The fact that you can now access styles with a key combination is more a matter of course than worth mentioning. Wireless tehtering for the new Fujifilm cameras in conjunction with Frame.io is only interesting for owners of these new cameras. For this to work, however, you need not only the cameras but also the corresponding handle. That leaves the smart adjustments, which are perhaps a little better adjusted. And that's it.
Too bad. Because I really had hope that something would work. Obviously, the motto was not to spoil the customers. It could be that he would then be satisfied. And no, at least I'm not – I'm not amused.
And to think that this is one of those upgrades that are reserved exclusively for those who pay a monthly subscription!
Capture One managers have few ideas and confused. Perhaps the only real point they have focused on in the past year has been how to make more money. Just the one.
This really sucks! I tried going back to 16.1.2.20 from 16.2.0 and couldn't because the library had been upgraded. Has anyone downgraded from 16.2.0?
I would uninstall CO completely, but copy all user-specific settings first. Then install CO 16.1.2 and update the custom settings again. Sessions and catalogues are automatically provided with a backup file during the upgrade. Rename this file and it should run again with version 16.1.2.
Since the update to 16.2.0 one week ago Capture One crashes several times during one shooting/workflow no matter if I am editing, exporting or doing somthing else. I can't work like that! I have customer projects to finish, this is a nightmare! Before the updtate everything was ok for me, now I would never update right away after a release again and hope this will be fixed soon. Such a bad experience. I'm really disappointed, before that I really liked it.
Even though I can't contribute anything helpful, I would like to say that 16.2.0 runs flawlessly for me. Both on my MacBook Pro from 2015 and on the Mac Studio from 2022. And I work with RAW data from a Fuji GFX100s. Finding the correct cause for your poor performance is a Sisyphean task, it's not necessarily the software alone. Good luck with the troubleshooting.

I now recognized, that version 16.2.0 is not avalaible for perpetual license of Capture One:

I've submitted more crash reports over the past week than in the past several years. CaptureOne Support, please pay attention to what's going on and get us a reliable update.
After being unable to even export images (getting some weird ResErrors) and not getting any response from the support I decided to revert to 16.1.3 and all problems disappeared. It's not a user friendly operation but I wouldn't be able to finish my work otherwise. I saw that, but I don't trust it, to be honest. I made a mistake of installing a new version in the middle of important work. I guess I'll wait a few weeks
