Overview
Please read system requirements and the release notes carefully before installing Capture One.
This article contains the following sections:
Download Capture One
All desktop variants of Capture One are contained in the same installer. The procedure is exactly the same whether you are a Pro or Enterprise license holder.
Log in to your account at https://www.captureone.com/ by clicking the Account button
On your account page, click the Download button
On the download page, choose your OS and download the latest version of Capture One;
scroll down to download a previous version of Capture One
On Windows, you will download the Capture One installer executable (.exe)
On macOS, you will download the Capture One disk image file (.dmg)
Note some anti-virus or anti-malware applications can prevent Capture One from installing. Please make an exception in this instance (or check your anti-virus application settings) if you wish to download and install Capture One.
Install Capture One
All desktop variants of Capture One are contained in the same installer, like Pro and Studio.
macOS
- Run the Capture One disk image file (.dmg) to mount the Capture One application bundle.
You may also see a dialog box asking for an action confirmation. - Drag the Capture One application file to the Applications folder.
Note that if you move the application file to another location and run it from there, you will have problems with activation. - Run Capture One from your Applications folder.
Microsoft Windows
- Run the Capture One installer executable file (.exe).
Your OS may ask if you allow this app to make changes to your device, you need to agree in order to install Capture One. - Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
Note that Capture One will initiate the download and installation of Microsoft .NET Framework and Microsoft Edge Webview2 Runtime, if you do not already have it. - Run Capture One from desktop, start menu or the installation directory.
Update Capture One
In-app self-updater in Capture One 16.4.0
Capture One 16.4.0 introduced an in-app self-updater. The first time you start Capture One 16.4.0 or a newer version, the self-updater will ask if you wish to:
- Automatically check for updates (once per 24 hours).
- Automatically download and install updates silently in the background.
The selected preferences will be remembered for the local OS user.
You will only see updates that are available based on your current license. For example, as a perpetual license user, you won’t receive updates for versions that you don't own.
On macOS, we can generate smaller and faster delta updates, while on Windows, it downloads and installs the entire application.
You can always manually check if a new version of Capture One is available by going to the Capture One menu on macOS or the Help menu on Windows, and choosing Check for Updates. Select About Capture One to see the version you're currently using.
Disable auto updates in Capture One 16.4.0
If you wish to deactivate automatic updates or checks, run the following command in the macOS Terminal:
defaults delete com.captureone.captureone16 SUEnableAutomaticChecks
On Windows, open the Registry Editor and delete the WinSparkle folder located at the following path:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/SOFTWARE/Capture One/Capture One/
Next time you start Capture One, you will see the self-updater dialog again and can choose the options that suit you best.
We're planning to implement a UI solution for this in a future update.
Manual update in Capture One versions before 16.4.0
Versions before 16.4.0 need to be updated manually. You can check if a new version of Capture One is available by going to the Capture One menu on macOS or the Help menu on Windows, and choosing Check for Updates, but this new version will need to be manually installed on top of your existing configuration. Select About Capture One to see the version you're currently using.
Alternatively, you can keep an eye on this page.

Paid for download of upgrade, received license code, but download would not start.
I did pay for Capture One Pro 23 in October 22. Since my initial download and license code agreement I have not been able to upgrade nor start download for any upgraded Capture One Pro 23 upgrades. My license code is: 9YRK-7MXA-45EX-""""
Would you please let me know what I must do to be able to access any new updates?
Best regards,

hi I started capture one on iPad but want to use on my Mac desktop. I have downloaded it but don't have licence number and can't find it, could you help
Hi Dennis,
Hopefully you can help me out with the instructions you listed up above. It is in regard to this part below:
Updates are not performed via a "patch" meaning that a new version of Capture One will need to be installed on top of your existing configuration.
When it mentions about installing on top of my existing configuration, does that man to not replace/delete the existing configuration? I ask because I've never seen anyone explain when getting to the installation.
thanks vAL
