QUESTION
There is a significant delay between when I fire the shutter on my tethered camera and when the image is rendered fully in Capture One. How can I improve this?
ANSWER
First, check this article as most of the solutions found there will resolve any tethering issues, including slow performance:
Tethering problems: the camera is not connected or frequently disconnected
In addition to this, check that the camera is connected over the proper USB protocol. In System Profiler, under the USB section, find the camera and the Speed:
This indicates what speed the camera is connected:
- 12Mb/s: USB 1.1
- 480Mb/s: USB 2
- 5Gb/s: USB 3
If the camera is connecting slower than it should be, reconnect it and refresh System Profiler (via cmd+R). If it persists, try a different port on the machine, preferably on a different USB bus.

Can you write an article on troubleshooting progressively slower import/rendering during a tethered shoot? For example, during a day-long tethered studio shoot, in the morning, the images are coming into the session and rendering quickly. By the afternoon, after shooting 2000+ images, they are coming in much slower. On the last shoot I did, this was the case. Reducing preview size to 900 px in Preferences did not help. What other sorts of tricks can I do. Begin a new session? Delete one of the cache folders?
