When purchasing an upgrade, your old key (the one used to purchase the upgrade) becomes immediately disabled.
You are then provided with a new (upgraded) key. However, this key is not limited to the version you upgraded to. It can also be used to activate older versions of Capture One.
For example, if you have upgraded to Capture One Pro 20 from Capture One Pro 12, then you can use you Capture One 20 license key to activate any previous version of Capture One Pro.
However, if you are a subscriber, you don't need to purchase upgrades - but your key can only be used as far back as Capture One 11.3.2.
If you have a Capture One Fujifilm / (for Sony) / for Nikon key, then you can only activate previous versions of Capture One Fujifilm / (for Sony) / for Nikon and not Capture One Pro.
