Capture One 22 will contain two of our most requested features, HDR Merging and Panorama Stitching, along with many under-the-hood improvements and optimizations plus more features to come during 2022. Question: I upgraded to Capture One 22. Where can I download the new version?
When Capture One 22 is released in December, we’ll let you know when it’s ready to download. It will be available on our New Update page here: https://www.captureone.com/en/account/download
Once Capture One 22 is released, please follow the steps below to ensure your upgrade installs smoothly.
1. Uninstall and deactivate old version/s of Capture One
As a precaution, we recommend uninstalling any previous versions of Capture One on your machine, prior to installing your new version of Capture One.
See our deactivation guide and uninstall guide.
You may also want to consider backing up your existing Catalog(s) - see how to do that here.
2. Download Capture One 22 (when released)
Once you have deactivated and uninstalled any previous versions of Capture One, you can download Capture One 22 here.
If you require an older version, such as Capture One 12, download it from here.
3. Activate Capture One
Once you have your version of Capture One installed, you will need to activate the software.
Your Capture One license key (issued by our e-shop provider FastSpring) will look like this:
You will also need an active and verified Capture One account - this isn't always the same as your PayPal e-mail address, so please activate the software using the e-mail address tied to your Capture One account. If you don’t have an account, check the article on how to create an account.
Remember your account password - if you have forgotten your password, select the option 'I forgot my password' underneath the 'Remember Me' checkbox.
See our activation guide if you require further information.
4. Open a Session / Catalog
A new default Catalog called 'Capture One Catalog' will be created and opened when you open your new version of Capture One for the first time. If you are new to Capture One, then this is an ideal starting point.
However, if you don't wish to use this default Catalog, simply navigate to File -> New Catalog / New Session in the main menu.
If you would like to open a previously used Session or Catalog, then go to File -> Open and select your desired Session or Catalog.
When the Session or Catalog is opened, you will be shown the following pop-up:
Select Upgrade to start using this Session / Catalog with your new Capture One software.
NOTE: Once you perform this upgrade, you cannot use this Session or Catalog in your older version of Capture One - so we always recommend backing up first.
5. Finetune the settings
While custom Styles and Presets from the Application Support folder will be available in the newest version of Capture One, you will have to adjust preferences (such as mask color, exposure warning settings, etc.) when switching to a major release as the operating system sees each major version of Capture One as a separate software program with its own preferences file.

I just bought a pre-upgrade to Capture 22 and it basically did what it says. Disabled my previous C1 key. However, the new key is not activating the software and I am staring at non-functional software.
I have restarted and reopened the software a few times, and nothing.
It would be good to get an answer to this situation
Just figured out why I couldn’t reactivate.... Since I upgraded from a C20 to pre C22... Capture One, in their great wisdom, decided that I can't temporarily use C21... I paid twice the license price... why couldn't I expect to be using C21, which is close to being retired in favor of C22?
I think many will have thought like me that, as they pay again for this software, they are buying a C21 upgrade (from their C20), with a free path to C22... because it will be released soon. Error!
Capture One did it again. I was burnt the first time around buying a C20 2 or 3 months before C21 got released... and all they offered is that I pay twice the price in 3 months...
Your marketing makes no sense Capture One.
Agreed with the latest post. The framing of the "pre-release" upgrade was disingenuous. I was under the same impression that if I pre-upgrade, I'd get the in-between update to use prior to the final release of 22. It would make sense since many software companies offer free upgrades to the latest version if you buy the current one just a few weeks before they release the latest update.
Pretty turned off by the dishonesty here.
It has been almost four days and there has been no response from the official Capture One account. It is disgusting that they call themselves a software company.
I had to figure out the hard way to uninstall a working version of C1 21 and install the older C1 20 version. I can't upgrade to 21: the new version of 22 is my best hope. In the interim, the C1-21 catalogs don't work with C1-20. So basically lost all the work.
Pretty P-off with Capture One as a company.
Dear...
I was a day to late to upgrade Capture 21 to 22, but I have paid last 1/11/21.
I have a key but it don't work.
Can help my.
Thank your for time.

If I upgrade today to C1-21 will I not get C1-22? It looks like I am outside the window of the upgrade. I got a new Mac coming and want to get the new version on it.
@Jack
There is still the question unanswered from Joachim and Chris, and I have the same concern.
Will perpetual license holders like myself be able to launch C1 in the event that the server is unavailable, broken, gone, or the company closes their doors for good?
Thanks

How can we perpetual license holders install and activate C1 on another machine in case your company goes bankrupt or your investor closes the door?
Will the activation servers be online for another x years or will there be anybody implementing a simplified offline activation? I doubt the latter two can be guaranteed, so, if you care for your loyal perpetual license customers, you should discuss internally to implement an emergency activation for that hopefully unlikely event.
At least, you should have an official answer to this question, as you know I'm not the only one.
Thanks

@BeO I don’t feel they give a d… about perpetual licence owners. All they want is to retain you in and find a way to convert you to a subscriber. Their attitude (and their silence) has shown it several times. Every year they take for granted that you are going to give them money and it’s the same SNAFU with the license activations/revocations. They pre-sell you a new version without even showing a screenshot and they expect you to thank them for bringing you awesome new features you didn’t need the day before.
This year, I am not upgrading unless I am forced to and because I am losing faith in this company that is playing a dangerous growth game. I wonder who/what they are listening to.
I put my guts into making my photographic archive the most future proof possible and it should not depend on the volatility of a subscription, the potential failure of activation servers and moreover, on a company that chooses to not address legitimate concerns of customers in their own support forum.
This just doesn’t feel right. Photographers, speak up with me.
@Jack
I've pre-purchased the last couple of C1Pro annual upgrades on the basis that C1Pro is a great product that I want to support, so I gladly pay early. Each year C1Pro costs me similar to the cost of one shoot, I think that's a reasonable deal. The upgrades have gone perfectly for me each year. C1Pro is still in business. All is good.
I understand the need for activation systems because pirated copies of C1Pro are out there for download. A friend asked me to help him with C1Pro, the software on his computer didn't look right, it was pirated! Anyone who uses a pirated copy is a fool because the first thing the pirated copy will do is phone home to the hacker who hacked it to overcome the activation process, next the user's computer becomes a malware hub or worse. I wonder where the photos of the pirate users end up, have the dishonest user considered that when downloading pirated software?
I'd love to see C1Pro engage in user education about pirated software. Make a video of what pirated C1Pro software might actually do, many would be amazed. That education video will go viral, all those private photos suddenly not so private!
All of this said, like BeO, I still have this unanswered question:
"Will perpetual license holders like myself be able to launch C1 in the event that the server is unavailable, broken, gone, or the company closes their doors for good?"
For my part, I switched from Apple Aperture to C1Pro when Apple support was discontinued, my only regret was that I didn't move to C1Pro sooner. C1Pro is just better in every way. I don't like the Adobe model so won't support it.
Like all photographers, I spend a great deal of time in post production, sorting, adjusting etc. While I would still have all my RAW files, to be unable to launch C1Pro would be an enormous problem for me. I'm sure a robust solution from C1Pro to mitigate this could be devised.
