Attention: Jack & the Beanstalk senior execs at Capture One
As Shakespeare's Hamlet observed, "Something is Rotten in Denmark".
Where are the adults in the room at Capture One Executive Management?
Nobody with sufficient intelligence to wear their underpants inside their trousers is going to purchase this
notionally priced mystery product now even if you offered a post-post-post Black Friday/early bird
Christmas/Id/Hanukah 75% discount.
And now the cat is out of the bag that Capture One will have an annual "new product" , i.e. Capture One 19,
Capture One 20, Capture One 21, Capture One 22, 23, etc. rendering your full purchase option useless. What's
the point of a future free upgrade that is pointless? A security upgrade? Woohoo! It's asking customers to pay
for a cabin upgrade on the Titanic.
How can executive management not see and react to the marketing team further moving the erstwhile cutting
edge developer from the intensive care ward to the morgue? Capture One is burning through its client's good
will credits on hyperdrive. Capture One will pay a huge price for giving these unethical rookies the keys to your
future. Fix it fast, because hope is not a strategy.
We don't want a silly SNEAK PEEK 2 or 3 or 4. You're not in the business of selling cartoons to juveniles. And that marketing model appears closest to what your brilliant marketing team has devised.
As a professional, I want to see AND test what I'm buying. How will it affect my business? How will I adapt it to my work flow? Is it an improvement? Common sense stuff like that.
Not a 20-30-40% notional discount.Capture One has got to listen to their customers and get serious about stopping this promotion disaster and marketing policy. And by the way, most of us run businesses or are responsibly employed, so we all have better things to do than write comments to help right your ship.
The solution is obvious to your customers. Get a new marketing team and new sales strategy.
If Capture One 21 has support for HEIC, I'll buy it.
If Capture One 20 doesn’t get support for HEIC, I’ll not but it.
so today , new email with " new tools revealed " that were already revealed 2 weeks ago ..... getting sadly comical .
Liking the product , I went ahead and purchased the update to 21. Downloaded and installed successfully. Deactivated v20 as directed. Now when I go to activate with the new license key it says my username and password are not valid. I used the exact credentials I used to log in to my account and get to this page. Now I can't access the application at all. I have to use LR (which I detest) so I can shoot tethered. I am not happy to say the least.
Edwin's post has more credibility with readers here than Capture One's marketing team. Other than our moderator, is anybody at Capture One reading this board? I have never seen such an avalanche of negative feedback for a product launch by a top line developer.
Capture One, your customer base has spoken. We're not buying mystery promos at a notional discount. Particularly with majority discontent with the complicated and confusing purchase/subscription options. And worse yet, others on this board are singing the praises of your competition. Think about where this is headed. If Capture One 21 isn't ready to roll out for sale with a 30 day return option, stop this early bird marketing campaign.
And Jack, what does Capture One say about Edwin's experience?
Hey, Capture One- When can we expect some help and relief. I shifted over to CO some years ago and don't have the ease of sliding back to LR. When will you answer?
To be fair I have to report that I did finally get it to work. After spending the better part of an afternoon following the advice from the "help" section I finally stumbled upon my own workaround basically by accident.
The activation screen asks for your password. It didn't like my credentials even though they are the credentials I use all the time. There's a button on the activation page to request your password be sent to your email. I tried that multiple times and never received a response.
By luck I found a link where I could reset my Password. (Somewhere on my account page I think, I don't remember.). So I tried that. So for giggles I reset my password to what I had been using in the first place. I half expected it to tell me that I couldn't reset my password to my existing password. But instead it accepted it.
So I go back to the activation page, and after refreshing the page a couple of times and entering the "new" password (same as the old password) it activated C1 21.
Fortunately I don't have a tight deadline and my client is not standing over my shoulder, but I did lose basically a half day. No I don't have a $10,000 day rate but I will have to work tomorrow to make up the time.
I think my ordeal indicates how much I really like and prefer C1 over the alternatives. However, I now regret upgrading to 21. I did the upgrade basically just to keep current and to support the company as I haven't seen any new features that I really want or need. But it seems like C1 isn't supporting its customers very well.
Phase One is clearly a premier software house. It is something of a mystery why they can't design and implement a straightforward activation service.
Edwin, I am so pleased that you finally ground down to a solution. I have had no such luck and I don't have another half day to invest in happening onto a solution.
To those who may be reading this, it should be obvious by now that the registration code for the CO 21 upgrade was bogus or the claim that it would allow me to open my previous CO 20 installation was bogus. Why is there no response to these repeated similar reports of problems from Capture One. This page is entitled "support", yet there is no support. Why not?
So very disappointing. Over to you Capture One. Seven days without my editing software now. Bah!
Maybe they let some critical developers go to save money, and now they are paying a bigger price.
Could be but activation/validation is a straightforward web app that doesn't require critical developers.
I was referring to the shit-show in general: failure to support modern file formats, failure to identify new features while still offering upgrades, etc.
I agree all of that is inexcusable
Did anyone notice that Capture One has also changed the number of seats for a permanent license in CO21 to 2 seats instead of 3 seats like the permanent license currently allows? Look at the offer for CO21 and you'll see it is only 2 seats now whereas my current license for CO20 is 3 seats. So not only are they not telling us what is in the new release they are pushing us to buy, but now appears they are taking away seats as well. Not for me, thanks.
J Bailey, only realised they had reduced it to 2 seats after my pre order. sigh.
Same here Ritika. This whole upgrade is looking more and more like a pure scam. I feel like I was made a mark.
C1 team, please consider to change your C1 21 release strategy, listen to us, you could be the only Adobe's real competitor. BE GOOD
Why isn't somebody from Capture One management responding to this flood of negative feedback. CO is acting like children who got caught with their fingers in the cookie jar. CO this negative backlash isn't going away. We'd like some dialogue with management. We're being ignored. No more promos. What a disappointment.
Customer trust once lost is not easily regained.
Capture One won't change their stupid release strategy, because they have nothing new to show. This is what I suspect when I see this kind of silence from C1 side. They just try to lure people to pre-order and pay product they already have. You can fool people once, but second time it will be harder...
