Exactly. Vote with your wallet. I'm getting emails at the moment asking me to upgrade... to a program that doesn't run on my computer. And to announce an update without M1 compatibility... Doesn't inspire confidence. If Lightroom creates half decent layers & mask tools, C1 will lose a lot of money.

Agreed. Unusable on my new Macbook M1.

Thank you for the nice video, funnily enough it was now on the second try without Open GL the same speed as yours. I am confused :-)

I have cancelled my subscription and moved back to Lightroom & Photoshop - this has been a most unpleasant experience....

Major regrets loading C21 on my new Macbook. Could not even get it to load past the beach ball. Horrible. Going back to 20.

Now you would have to do a test on the M1 Mac under Rosetta.

I tried installing the new update and it gives me the twirling symbol and stalls and had to exit to avoid crash.  I miss using Capture One but am at the point where I am going to cancel my subscription plan.

C21 runs fine on my MBA M1 when OpenCl is set to "never" in the C21-preferences. Occasional beachball at startup, not sure why

They officially announced that they will support Apple Silicon within 4 months.

@Oliver this is my experience as well. I opened a support ticket with a video showing the issue. I would GLADLY beta a native build but was told that there isn’t one.

FWIW Lightroom Classic works great... just saying

If there is something not seamless, it's the constant tethering problem with updates...

I recently emailed Capture One to find out when an update would be available. I got a very thorough and helpful reply.

    Hi Eames,

We continually strive to make Capture One accessible on the newest hardware and operating systems and we are currently working with Apple to secure the best performance and compatibility for the new ARM-based Mac computers.
Native ARM support will be released in an update to Capture One 21 in 2021.

In the meantime, Capture One will run on ARM-based Mac computers using Apple’s Rosetta 2 emulation platform. Although with some limitations. This issue will be addressed in future upcoming releases, but so far this setup is not supported by Capture One and should be run by users at their own risk.

In the meantime, if it's is critical to your workflow we discourage you from using it until we release the updated version of Capture One for ARM-based Macs.

Thanks. But four months? What are they doing? I was really impressed with C1 after migrating a year ago from LR. But I've been really disappointed hearing tales of customer service woes, bad updates, and now this.

No, I cannot confirm that deactivating OpenCL improves anything, at least in C20. It makes the system slower on the M1, even though it might be faster with MetalAPI. Just try a few styles, you'll notice it takes longer to apply them.

    Thanks @Wayne,

Today someone posted info about C1 21 getting Native M1 support and Metal API in next update, so I'm fine :D

Rental software is out of the question for me. If C20 were rental software now, I would be even more annoyed.

Agree with them completely. Very sad. Have put the update on hold for now, am still using C20, which seems to run a bit better.

Well I can tell you what they were doing, nothing. A big fat zero. They didn’t think M1 will be good so they haven’t started to work on that until recently. Otherwise they would have acquired a DTK kit from Apple and announce M1 support quickly like others did, ie Affinity. Of course some will come saying “well you don’t need to buy M1” “do you think it is easy to move to M1” or all the other lame defence lines for C1 but nothing can save them. C1 has dropped the ball in my eyes, they had really some nice features etc but now others have caught up already if not surpassed C1

    Hi,

@Wayne Large do You know any good alternative for tethering shooting?

That's the only thing why I can't switch to anything.

My conclusion "Does C1 run on Apple M1?": NOPE

    • C1 is still not ready for being rolled out
    • Update will not be available for C1 20
    • Everybody who invested in Apple's new M1 chip need to invest again in an C1 update (or returns to LR or others)

Poor me .... having to wait ... not funny at all.

    @Benjamin Kim

I totally agree. We loose 20-30% of performance, Macs ain't cheap and work is harder to get.

Metal API was introduced with OS X Yosemite in 2014, and C1 team still thinks it doesn't exist, ridiculous.

If you think most users are Windows based, You are sooo wrong.  Go full on MacOS or leave it.

As greedy as I have seen the company lately, they will not release an update for C1 20 or from 13.1.3 anymore.

I just upgraded to mac mini m1 (16gb ram 512gb ssd). Using c1 21 (14.02) don't have any problem yet. And tethering shooting is very fast, even the focus tool is stunning fast. Shooting with Canon 5ds.

    Hi Benjamin Kim,

    Thank you for your comment.

There is no information about this issue at the moment, but I surely transfer your request to our Product Management team for further consideration.

On my M1 I see in the system.log (Console app) I see errors related to OPenGL that occur when having this hardware acceleration option enabled.

Capture One 21[24313]: getattrlist failed for /System/Library/Frameworks/OpenGL.framework/Resources//GLRendererFloat.bundle/GLRendererFloat: #2: No such file or directory

I couldn't believe how fast Lightroom was, crazy when I moved to C1 as I found LR slow, now it's swapped.

It takes longer because of ARM version and metal API which are caused by ignorance, lazyness, lack of innovation. Sad.

    @Milo & @Louis

Do you happen to run any window snapping software like Magnet? I was having issues with another application. Same behavior, beachballs with every click. As soon as I shut down/uninstalled Magnet, no more issues at all.

FWIW, I am not having issues with C1 anymore on my M1 after update to 14.0.2.49. I also uninstalled Magnet.
