Altered hosts files may prevent license activation. The hosts file is a system file that can override DNS and redirect URLs or IP addresses to different locations. Usually, this file doesn't include any changes.
Please use the following instruction to check the host modifications:
For Windows
- Press Windows Key + R.
- Type %WinDir%\System32\Drivers\Etc into the Run window and click OK.
- Open the hosts file with a text editor such as Notepad. The hosts will not have a file extension.
- Remove any lines that contain captureone or phaseone.
- Click File > Save to save your changes.
For macOS
1. Launch Terminal.app
2. Enter "sudo nano /etc/hosts" and hit the return key
3. Terminal will now ask you to enter the password – enter your user password. Please note you won't see the character you enter, this is expected and is done for security reasons, just blindly enter your password and hit the return key).
4. You'll see the 'nano' app interface.
Use arrow keys to navigate the editing space, delete the phaseone/captureone reference with the backspace key.
5. After you're done, hit Control+O (O for Output, not 0). nano now want's to confirm the file name to write (just hit return as you want to save changes to the file you opened).
7. nano will confirm the file was saved.
8. Hit Control+X to quit the app.
Alternative instructions
- Run the Terminal application with Launchpad.
- Please type the following:

sudo vim /etc/hosts - Press Return.

- Then you'll need to enter your administrator password. Please note that you won’t see the characters, this is expected and is made for security reasons, so just blindly enter your password and press Return.
- Enter Password and then press Return.
- Find any lines that contain captureone or phaseone.
- Move to that line with arrow keys and press d twice.
- Type :x to save and exit.
Note: You will need administrator privileges, including the password, to edit the Mac hosts file.
