Photoroom provides AI-powered image processing for tasks such as background removal, background replacement, layout changes, and product staging. It is designed for predictable, fast transformations that do not require prompt writing or manual retouching.
When used with Capture One Actions, Photoroom processing becomes part of the capture workflow. Images are sent directly from Capture One to predefined Photoroom specifications, allowing results to return in near real time without manual exports or uploads.
This integration is typically configured by studio administrators and used by photographers and digitechs. Actions ensure the same specification and output settings are applied every time.

Setting up the Photoroom Connector and Actions
Step 1: Configure the Photoroom Connector
- Sign in to your Capture One account and open the web-based admin portal. Studio for Teams users can access it from the Actions tool in Capture One, by selecting Manage Actions.
- Navigate to the Actions section.
- Choose Photoroom and click Connect.
- Enter your Photoroom API key.
- Save the Connector.
Step 2: Create Photoroom Actions
Once the Photoroom Connector is registered, you can create Actions based on Photoroom’s predefined specifications. These specifications are maintained by Photoroom and updated over time as new features are released.
- Select Actions tab.
- Click Create Action.
- Enter an Action name. This name is for internal use and does not need to match the Photoroom specification.
- Set Service to Photoroom.
- Select a Specification from the dropdown list.
The specification dropdown displays all currently available Photoroom options, including:
- Remove Background – Removes the background using an enhanced model optimized for fine details such as hair and fur.
- Cropped Background Removal – Removes the background and tightly crops the subject on a transparent background.
- Background Blur – Applies depth-of-field blur while keeping the subject sharp.
- Solid Color Background – Replaces the background with a solid color, typically white, with optional shadow.
- Solid Color Background with Controllable Shadows – Replaces the background with a solid color and adds a realistic AI shadow with adjustable softness, intensity, spread, direction, and subject pose.
- AI Background Generation (from a prompt) – Generates a photorealistic background from text input.
- AI Background Generation (from a reference image) – Generates a background guided by a reference image.
- AI Expand – Expands the image canvas beyond its original boundaries.
- AI Relight – Re-lights the product using AI.
- Product Staging – Places the product into a generated lifestyle scene.
- Ghost Mannequin – Creates a shaped, mannequin-free garment presentation.
- Flat Lay – Re-composes the product into a flat lay view.
- Other Angle – Generates an alternative viewing angle of the product.
For each specification, parameters are prepopulated automatically. Use the information icon next to each parameter to view descriptions and acceptable value ranges. Parameters can be defaulted by administrators or made editable for users inside Capture One.
Once configured, save the Action in draft mode so it can be tested before being published to the studio.
