Feature walkthrough
Panorama Stitch
Stitch your RAW files into Panorama DNG files with Capture One 22. Create stunning panorama perspectives, achieve super-resolution, or get creative with an extremely shallow depth of field from multi-row stitching – all from within Capture One. The Panorama Stitch Tool outputs a linear DNG that behaves like a RAW file for further editing.
Shooting optimally for Panorama
When shooting for Panorama stitches, consider following these principles for optimal results:
- Shoot at 35mm or longer
- Use a tripod, if possible
- Lock the focus and exposure between the shots
- Shoot with 20-40% overlap
Light fall-off correction
Consider if your images need light fall-off correction within Lens Correction before stitching. This will ensure an even transition across skies and other similar areas.
How to stitch
Select the images you want to stitch, right-click one of them and select Stitch to Panorama. A preview dialog will appear, preparing a preview of the Panorama with the selected projection.
Available projections
Depending on the number of images, scene, and field of view your images cover, you can choose a projection of your input images that best suits the purpose:
- Spherical
Useful for multi-row stitching with a large field of view both horizontally and vertically.
- Cylindrical
Useful for a single row of images that cover a field of view of more than ~100 degrees. Vertical lines remain vertical using this projection.
- Perspective
Perspective projection aims at simulating the field of view of your input images with the corresponding field of view of a wide-angle lens. Useful for scenarios that cover less than ~100 degrees field of view and images captured with technical cameras using tilt/shift lenses.
- Panini
Useful for architecture where the vanishing point is at the center of the frame. Vertical lines remain vertical and lines going towards the vanishing point remain intact using this projection.
Stitch size
If the resolution or number of input images is high, the resulting stitched Panorama DNG can become quite large. Panorama DNGs that are more than 600 MP in resolution will suffer from poor editing performance in Capture One 22 as they exceed the file size Capture One can cache. A warning will appear in this case. To avoid this performance loss, the stitch size can be determined in four steps: 25%, 50%, 75% or 100%. The expected dimensions in pixels are shown as well as the total resolution in megapixels.
Images above 600 MP can still be edited in Capture One 22, but with decreased performance. The maximum supported resolution is 715 MP, and the Panorama cannot exceed 65,000 pixels in either width or height.
Stitched file
Once the preview of the Panorama is ready, you can click Stitch and the actual stitching will begin. Depending on your hardware, the number of images, resolution, and projection, the process might take anywhere between 10 seconds and 20 minutes. When the stitching is done, the Panorama DNG will appear next to the input images.

HDR Merge
Get increased dynamic range in your images by merging your bracketed RAW files directly within Capture One. The result is a linear DNG that behaves like a RAW file for further editing.
Shooting optimally for HDR
When shooting for HDR merge, consider following these principles for optimal results:
- Shoot 3 images bracketed with 2.0 EV between each image
- Use a tripod to avoid significant differences between the images
- Make sure that the brightest image has details in the shadows and that the darkest image does not have any burned out highlights
How to merge
Select the images you want to merge, right-click, and select Merge to HDR. A dialog box appears with two options:
- Auto Adjust
Enabling this will apply auto adjustments to the merged HDR file. This will provide an immediate pleasing result with details and natural contrast. The tools included in the auto adjustments are Exposure, Contrast, Brightness, High Dynamic Range, and Levels. These adjustments can be further tweaked or removed after the merge.
- Auto Align
Enabling this will align images that are not perfectly aligned. This makes it possible to shoot without a tripod, but it increases the merging time.
HDR merge can also be activated using shortcuts. There are no default shortcuts, so they must be customized. The function Merge to HDR with default will directly merge without the dialog box.
Merged file
Depending on your hardware, the number of images, and the resolution, the merging process might take anywhere between 10 seconds and 5 minutes. When the merging is done, the HDR DNG will appear next to the input images.

Auto Rotate
Rotate all your images automatically with the AI-based Auto Rotate in Capture One 22. Auto Rotate works on multiple images, allowing quick batch corrections.
How to use
Auto Rotate is activated using the Magic Wand icon in the Rotation and Flip tool, or by using the shortcut Alt + R / Opt + R. This shortcut is customizable from the shortcut manager.
Wireless Tethering (Canon)
Tether selected Canon cameras over the wireless network, or even via a network cable. Wireless tethered functionality is identical to tethering over USB. With Wireless Tethering you need one less cable on set, enabling a new and much more dynamic tethered shooting experience.

Improvements
Catalog Performance Improvements (Windows)
Loading collections in Catalogs have been improved on Windows. The improvement provides a completely new Catalog experience on Windows, where filtering, loading, and browsing Albums and Folders now feels significantly faster.
Browsing and caching performance improvements
Capture One 22 will utilize more RAM to cache images when available. This results in a better experience when editing large files like Panorama stitches and when browsing between images.
General UX improvements
Capture One 22 includes a handful of general improvements to the UX:
- Easier access to adding and removing filters in the Filters Tool by using the new plus-icon.
- The Pick All tick mark in the Importer is now disabled by default, enabling a faster culling experience using the Import Viewer.
- The Edit All icon has been removed from the default workspace, reducing the risk of users unknowingly disabling it with a confusing workflow to follow.
- A notification now shows when exporting, merging, or stitching is complete, allowing a quick shortcut to the export folder or file*.

Recommended system requirements
If working with high-resolution images and doing calculation-heavy adjustments we recommend the following:
- Intel CPU with 4+ cores
- 16+ GB of RAM
- Solid State Disk (SSD)
- NVIDIA or AMD GPU with 8GB+ RAM
- Calibrated monitor with at least 1920x1200, 24-bit resolution at 96dpi
4k / 5k monitors
Due to the significant additional calculation overhead, systems using 4k/5k monitors will require additional resources in addition to the above-recommended spec (both in GPU and CPU power). For professional experience, we recommend at least doubling the specification above for these configurations.
Installation
Capture One 22 is compatible with the earlier 7.x, 8.x, 9.x, 10.x, 11.x, 12.x versions. It is recommended to migrate images from 4.x, 5.x., and 6.x to version 8.x before opening them in 22. It is generally recommended that you only install one version of Capture One on any single computer. A single-user license allows up to 2 activations on computers that you own or of which you are the principal user. The license can be used with both Windows and Mac platforms. Multi-user licenses are also available from the Capture One webshop or from your retailer. Please read the release notes carefully before you install Capture One.
Install on Windows
To install the software please follow the procedure below.
- Download the application from the Capture One website.
- Run the executable software install file (.exe).
- Carefully read and accept the license agreement presented.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. Capture One will initiate the installation of Microsoft® .NET Framework 4.7 if you do not already have it.
Install on macOS
To install the software please follow the procedure below.
- Download the application from the Capture One website.
- Open the Capture One disk icon (.dmg).
- Carefully read and accept the license agreement presented.
- Drag the Capture One icon to the Applications folder.
- Open Capture One from your Applications folder.
Manual update to the latest version
It is important to keep Capture One software updated. After the activation and registration, you will usually receive a newsletter reminder that an update is ready for download, although it can be more convenient to choose Capture One -> Check for Updates (Help -> Check for Updates on Windows). If your Capture One application is downloaded from www.captureone.com, it will always be the latest version. You can also schedule an automated update if needed by navigating to Capture One -> Preferences (Edit -> Preferences on Windows).
Recommendations and limitations
For all users
- When you have disconnected a camera, do not reconnect a camera until the Camera tool status changes to "No Camera Attached".
- DNG support not optimized for some cameras.
For other camera users
- The following functionality is not supported for Fujifilm X-trans RAW files: processing/exporting to DNG.
- Some cameras provide multishot functionality by way of (e.g.) multiple exposures or pixel shifting. In most cases, the functionality will not be available in Capture One, however, a single RAW file from the “stack” may be viewable and editable in Capture One (as if it was a shot in single Capture mode).
For digital back users
- Unless otherwise specified for your Phase One camera system, do not open the shutter on the camera prior to opening the Live View window. Doing so will generate errors on the digital back after closing the Live View window. The recommended procedure for using Live View is to first open the Live View window, then open the shutter on the camera, use Live View as desired, when done, close the shutter on the camera, and close the Live View window.
- Focus controls for iXR and iXA cameras are only supported by IQ and Credo backs.
Known Issues
Find a list of known issues for Capture One at the time of shipping.
All users
- Browsing folders containing unsupported image files may affect application performance.
- Previews from earlier versions of Capture One may be updated. In some cases, this can affect the application performance the first-time images are viewed in this version of Capture One.
- Using a non-US laptop keyboard might be preferable to change some of the standard keyboard shortcuts.
- Editing images in external applications other than Adobe Photoshop might result in unexpected behavior.
- Operation under virtualization software (e.g. Parallels, Hackintosh, etc) may cause instability. We do not recommend you use these OS configurations.
Mac users
- Live View over USB can stall without the use of a repeater.
Windows users
- Windows drivers are required for some older models of Canon DSLR cameras to be able to shoot tethered. These drivers are available from Canon’s website.
- Importing a catalog can result in the last picture not getting imported.
- Operation under RAMDisk by Dataram is known to cause issues with disk labeling. Capture One is not supported with this configuration.
- If you have Bonjour 2.0.3 installed, you may experience problems with Capture Pilot. Bonjour 2.0.2 (shipping with Capture One 9) and 2.0.4 (shipped with iTunes) have been tested to work with Capture Pilot. To check the version number of Bonjour, go to 'Control
Panel' and select ‘Programs and Features’. - Plays.TV/Raptr/RivaTuner installed along with some AMD devices can cause instability.
File support: Notes and limitations

HEIC/HEIF support
Capture One supports HEIC/HEIF 8-bit files to the extent that the operating system supports the files. If you are on a Windows computer, you might need to download the two extensions “HEVC Video Extensions” and “HEIF Image Extensions” from Microsoft to enable support in Capture One.
Capture One DNG colors
DNG files from camera models with native support in Capture One will per default have their native Capture One colors applied. DNG files from camera models that are not natively supported in Capture One will have generic DNG Standard colors applied.
We do not support adjustments and settings from other applications embedded in DNG files.
Other file support
TIF/JPG/PSD/PNG files that are not in RGB color space cannot be adjusted within Capture One and will be read-only.
Layered Tiff: Capture One 9.1 onward can support Tiff files with alpha channel or layers saved in the file (from other apps like Adobe Photoshop) but for viewing purposes only. Reprocessing the image will result in a new flattened image.
PSD: Capture 10.1 onward can support PSD files in the viewer. The PSD can contain any adjustments, layers, text or smart objects but must be saved in Photoshop with “maximize compatibility” enabled. Reprocessing the image from Capture One will result in a new flattened image.
File size limitations
- Smallest supported file for viewing: minimum side of 16 pixels.
- Smallest supported file for editing: minimum side of 512 pixels.
- Largest supported file: 715 megapixels or 65,000 pixels on the longest edge.

I am a product photographer and Focus Bracketing / this lens is essential for this 90% of my work, however this cannot be done via Capture one which means i am unable to shoot via you software.
Focus controls are currently unavailable and i would love to see this lens added to your supported List as then all my work can be completed in Capture one.

Healing brush and clone stamp are both broken and unusable. Todd Dominey has a video out showing the ghosting issues with HDR and the weird pixel patterns spread through out an image after panoramic stitching. As it is now Capture One 22 is unusable for me, I would like a refund and my license for Capture One 21 to be reinstated.

For the first time in years I think the competitive edge Capture One had over Lightroom is gone. Their new ai selective tool is way better than the magic brush. The color tools are already also in lightroom. I do prefer the layers iso the masking features in LR. I'll stay with version 22 for a while and hope that you guys will be get back in the game instead of behind!
I would like to know if metal graphic acceleration is supported
Focus mask functionality is inconsistent with Capture One 22 (Windows 10). It shows absolutely no mask (i.e., no green area) when enabled for several of my sharpest photos. Threshold setting does not appear to make a difference - no green areas are displayed.
