The steps below are for a simple and quick way to get started with Wi-Fi tethering.
If you are using firmware 2.0, go to 'Network Option' in the Network menu and disable 'Access Authen. Settings'.
For more detailed instructions and alternative connection methods, see this in-depth help article from Sony and select the camera model you are using at the top of the page.
You will need the following to get started:
- A strong WiFi access point that both your camera and computer can connect to
- A supported Sony camera
- Capture One 15.3 or newer
Supported cameras:
Sony a9 II / a7R IV/A / a7R V / A7C
1. Disable 'Access Authen. Settings'
- If you are using firmware 2.0, go to 'Network Option' in the Network menu and disable 'Access Authen. Settings'.
- The menu may look a little different in the new firmware, but in general, the steps should be almost the same.
2. Setup 'PC Remote Function'
- MENU → (Network) → [Ctrl w/ Smartphone] → [Ctrl w/ Smartphone] → [Off]
- MENU → (Network) → [PC Remote Function] → [PC Remote] → [On]
3. Set your Wi-Fi access point.
- Select (Network) → [Wi-Fi Settings] → [WPS Push] or [Access Point Set.] to connect the camera and computer to the same access point.
-
Select [PC Remote Function] → [Pairing] to perform pairing of the camera with the Remote application.
If [Connect without Pairing] is available on the camera, set it to [Enable] to connect without pairing.
Wait a few seconds whilst 'Wi-Fi Standby' appears on the display – a list of access points will then populate. Connect to the access point that your workstation is also connected to.
4. After successfully entering your Wi-Fi password, you should see a checkmark next to the access point you wish to use.
5. Check in the PC Remote Function menu and ensure that your camera is connected to the desired Wi-Fi access point, whilst also checking that your PC Remote preferences are set correctly as below.

3. Once your camera is connected, see here
Once your Sony camera is connected:
1. Double-check that your computer and camera are both connected to the same access point and that they are running on the same frequency (2.4GHz or 5 GHz)
2. In Capture One Pro, go to the Camera tool and click the dropdown menu where it should say 'Select camera...' and then select your camera from the list.
If you are seeing 'No camera available' then it's still worth checking the dropdown menu, as this can prompt a refresh of available cameras.
3. You should now be able to capture images wirelessly - your images will be stored in the destination set in the 'Next Capture Location' tool
Keep in mind that it will certainly take longer to download and display incoming images when shooting wirelessly. If you need instant feedback, or are talking multiple frames in a short period of time, then you may find a wired connection will serve you better.

Too slow to use. With A7IV, it takes around 10 sec to transfer one image.
Benjamin Kim What's your setup look like? I had a somewhat frustrating experience when I had a wall between myself and the router and was shooting in the highest quality RAW format. I had a better experience when connecting the camera directly to the iPad (not using the router) and shooting in RAW + JPEG – the JPEGs came in as quick as they would display on the back of the camera and I felt like I could shoot more confidently.
I've since switched to Hasselblad as my primary studio camera, but I briefly shot (~10 shoots) wireless tether using my Sony A1 using pretty much all compression types and sizes. If your camera has it, make sure to switch to 5GHz wifi. My A1 was transferring medium and small RAW images to Capture One in less than 3 seconds, and about 5-7 seconds for compressed RAW. My A7C on the other hand averages around 10 seconds even with 5GHz enabled.
Needless to say, I really like this feature, and hoping Capture One expands to include any camera that can connect to your computer via WiFi.
Just tried with a Sony A7c using a Wireless setup. Jpegs came through as fast as I could shoot, with Raw files taking a few seconds to import into CO.
For anyone shooting tethered and whom may "spray and pray", tethered/wireless photography is not for you!
I'm looking forward to trying out more of my cameras, thank you Capture One!!!
Hi
After connecting wifi direct I'm pressing on select camera in capture one I see my camera only in the list and after a 5 seconds I'm getting error msg The camera could not be attached . The Sony ILCE-7RM5 is currently busy.
made reset ,on and off removed battery and still getting the same msg.
please helppppp
Thanks in advance
Shlomi Aldo Firmware 2.0 gave some problems with Wi-Fi connectivity. You have to reset the network settings and setup wireless tethering again, as the process has changed based on the new firmware that is available. Let me know how you get on after resetting the network settings.
I encountered the same problem as Shlomi Aldo, and I tried to reset the network settings. When I tried to connect the camera, a pop-up box showed that the camera could not be connected and A7M4 was currently busy. The description displayed on the event page is that it is online and an internal error has occurred. (Camera is not open.com.captureone.captureone。code:11)
URGENT ATTENTION REQUIRED, Jack W & Capture One! Despite resetting the network settings and updating the SSID/PW, I'm STILL encountering the same issues. This situation is critical as I have an important shoot scheduled just two weeks away. I'm hoping to avoid resorting to a tether tools cable for this project.
I implore you, please prioritize resolving this issue as soon as possible - an immediate update would be greatly appreciated. Your swift action in this matter is not just desired, but absolutely necessary. Thank you for your immediate attention and assistance.
I have same question with Shlomi Aldo,My A7R5 can’t connect with capture one
I encounter the same problem as Shlomi Aldo. Also Sony A7R5.
Please help
I don't fix any bugs personally, but I can certainly try and help you all with this. First of all, have you reported the behavior you're experiencing to our support team?
It's critical that they have this information, so that it is logged and addressed in an update.
Though, it's not Capture One that is the only factor here. The firmware update is also something to consider as a factor.
Let me see what information the support team has on this and I'll see if there's anything I can recommend right away.
Anthony Elix Please try the steps below and let me know how you get on:
Hi Jack
I wanted to let you know that I also have an A7R5, and I tried your suggestion, but unfortunately, it didn't work for me either. I'm wondering if you're suggesting that all A7R5 users should not upgrade to Sony's 2.0 software. Should we consider downgrading to version 1.0 in order to continue shooting wireless tethered on Capture One 23? Your insight would be greatly appreciated.
Anthony Elix You shouldn't have to do that, but this behavior only began with firmware version 2.0. So if that option is available to you, then go for it.
I would encourage you to also contact Support with your findings so that we can keep a log of this behavior.
Hi Jack,
Thank you so much for your guidance and suggestions. I really appreciate your support. I will reach out to Sony’s customer support to inquire if it's possible for all of us to downgrade our A7R5 cameras back to 1.0 older version, which would allow to use Capture One software effectively. Thanks again for you suggestions!
Hi Jack W,
Thank you very much. These steps you provided helped me and I can connect via WiFi and tether wirelessly.
Sony A7rV, Macbook Pro 15" M1Pro.
Anthony Elix (and anybody else affected by the Sony 2.0 firmware update)
I don't have the camera body in my possession right now, but if you navigate to the following menu:
And choose "Access Authen. Settings" and disable the option therein. This should allow you to make a connection with Capture One when running the latest firmware.
UPDATE: I was able to take Jacks advice, followed his instructions/guidance and was able to get wireless 🛜 tethering working again in my Sony A7R5! A huge shoutout to @Jack for his support! I appreciate you my friend 🙏🏾🤗
Anthony Elix You are most welcome, mate :) I will get the instructions in the article updated.
Thank you so much. Jack W
I've waited months for a fix and all I had to do was Disable the "Access.Authen.Settings". Now it works wirelessly for iPad app too. Thank you very much!
Hi, I keep getting an error when trying to connect my new A7IV. I have followed all of the above advice but keep getting the pictured error? The camera connects fine to the Sony remote program and shows up as a listed camera in Capture one? I'm not sure where i'm going wrong here. Thanks in advance!
I tried this: If you are using firmware 2.0 then the menus may have changed. Navigate to "Network Option" in the Network menu and disable "Access Authen. Settings" - this should allow you to communicate with Capture One.
But it didn't work. I have connection with my windows laptop, but C1 will not find the Sony 7rV. (There have also been no problems before updating to Vers. 2,0) I have been contacting Sony support, but still I have no answer.
Thank you!
PC - If it still not connects try this -> https://support.captureone.com/hc/en-us/articles/360003494138-Live-view-and-tethering-problems-with-Sony-A7R-IV
I've just uninstal Sony Imaging Software...
I have Sony a7 IV framework is 3 and C1 is 16
I am trying to connect my camera using wifi, C1 can see my camera but I get error
the only way i fix it is to turn off Access Authen. Settings which I dont want and there is no clear instruction to fix it and connect the camera
