Capture One for iPad allows you to capture tethered images over Wi-Fi with certain supported cameras. Both RAW and JPEG file types can be used, and camera support is identical to Capture One Pro - with the exception of Phase One digital backs and camera systems.
The steps below offer a basic outline for how to connect your camera wirelessly to Capture One for iPad. For camera and manufacturer dependent instructions, please refer to your camera's user manual whilst referring specifically to the network and connectivity sections.
Before getting started:
1. Ensure your iPad is connected to the internet
2. Sign-in with an active Capture One for iPad subscription
3. Update the application to the latest version by checking the App Store
4. Reset all communication/Wi-Fi settings on your camera
5. Check out the wired tethering guide – many of the principles and steps also apply to wireless tethering

Connecting your iPad and camera to the same network
There are two methods used to connect your camera wirelessly to Capture One for iPad.
The first, is to use camera access point mode, which uses the camera's built-in Wi-Fi to communicate directly with your iPad (no internet access)
You can also connect via the same Wi-Fi access point to allow communication through a home, office, or dedicated wireless network.
Camera access point mode (uses your camera as a Wi-Fi access point, no router required)
1. Press Menu on your camera body, or navigate to the camera's main menu
2. Navigate to and select Wi-Fi/Bluetooth connection
3. Add a connection via Remote control (EOS Utility) - Capture One for iPad will act as a proxy - there's no need to install EOS Utility
4. 'Change Wi-Fi to Enable' - select OK
5. Select 'Add a device to connect to'
6. The camera will then display an SSID and Password associated with the camera
7. Connect your iPad to the displayed network:
Settings > Wi-Fi > Select the network displayed on the back of your camera (usually named in long-form after the name of the camera, e.g. EOSR5_BEB06C_XXXXX) > Enter the network password
8. 'Start pairing devices' will appear once the iPad has successfully connected to the camera's Wi-Fi network
9. Select 'OK' to complete the pairing process
10. Open Capture One for iPad
11. Your camera should be listed under 'Cameras' - if it is present but not connected, tap '...' and then 'Connect'
Wi-Fi access point (uses a router)
Follow the above steps, up until Step 6
1. Select 'Switch network' when presented with the camera's SSID and password
2. Select your desired Wi-Fi network from the list and enter the credentials associated with this network
3. Auto setting > Disable TCP/IPv6
3. Ensure that your iPad is also connected to the same network, and on the same frequency (2.4Ghz or 5Ghz)
4. Once both devices are connected to the same network, the camera should be detected and appear under the 'Cameras' heading in Capture One for iPad. If this is not the case, restart the app.
If you continue to experience issues, consider that you could be on a busy Wi-Fi network or a busy channel. Try changing to 5Ghz frequency from 2.4Ghz, and vice-versa, or connect directly to the camera.

The steps below outline how you can get your camera connected to the same Wi-Fi network that your iPad is connected to.
Once you have gone through the steps, you should be in a state where both your iPad and camera are connected to the same access point, and you will be able to see your camera under the 'Cameras' heading in Capture One for iPad.
You can also choose to connect directly to the camera body. Please refer to the user manual for the specific camera that you'd like to use for wireless tethering. The steps are different on each camera, and the ones provided below are for a quick and easy way to get started, no matter which Sony camera you are using.

Nikon
These steps were performed using a Nikon Z9
- Press Menu on the camera body
- Navigate to Network Menu > Connect to computer
- Make sure that connection type is set to "Camera control"
- Navigate to Network settings
- Choose “Create profile” and go through the steps to establish a Wi-Fi connection either through an access point (“search for wi-fi network”) or through the camera’s wifi (“direct connection to computer”) according to the camera’s manual.
- For the “search for wi-fi” option, the camera will display the SSIDs of available networks. Choose one, enter password, the camera will be assigned an IP address from the access point.
- For the “direct connection to computer”, the camera will create its own network, connect to this network from your iPad
- You will be prompted to open Nikon's Wireless Transmitter Utility (WTU), in order to pair – do not do that.
Open Capture One for iPad instead and choose the camera from the dropdown list under 'Cameras', select '...' and then 'Connect' - Once pairing is complete, the camera will have created a profile representing the connection between the camera and the specific machine that it has been paired to. It will then automatically reinitialize the connection.
- You will be returned to the “Connect to computer” menu, and you will see that the camera is re-connecting to the network. Once it has reconnected, the message “connecting to computer” will appear. This means that the camera can now be chosen from Capture One for iPad.
For other supported cameras, please check the manual for that specific camera.
Whenever 'Wireless transfer utility' terminology is used in Nikon's manuals, replace that with 'Capture One for iPad' and the steps in the camera manual will allow you to get started with wireless tethering.
