Yes, I personally can’t stand the subscription model but all these companies are just looking for ways to make more money. But at least they do keep the perpetual license option and since I’m a working photographer, videographer, etc. this is just an unfortunate expense to do business. I also have Lightroom, but capture one is like the Mac versus PC When it comes to usability.

I've been a Perpetual Licence for many years and won't be going on the 'Loyalty Scheme' as Perpetual Licences don't generate any loyalty with Capture One. C1 has been very expensive for me as a Hasselblad and Leica user, but I like having the option of using it.
Remember the old, falling down factory and in the reception pinned to the wall amongst the cobwebs was the notice "We are satisfied with our product and services".

I've been using Capture One since version 6 and since I don't earn any money with photography, but simply enjoy taking photos, I don't need every update. Nevertheless, I have spent a four-figure sum on the software since then. This loyalty program is just a disguise for the fact that the price of Capture One has increased many times over and now exceeds Adobe's subscription model. That's just annoying.

It's not a "loyalty discount" for permanent licence holders and more, it's an abusive slap on the face with a wet fish. I applied my discount on a current permanent licence and it came to exactly the same as if I had never bought C1. This is not a huge disappointment though since there don't appear to have been any useful features added.

It's time for this to stop though. Alfred above, a user since version 6 is typical of the bind we find ourselves in. We pay for software for decades and then when we retire or stop making money from photography, we lose the ability at some point to open our old catalogues. What should happen, what users should demand, is at some point… 5 years, 8 years, 10 years of actual loyalty, they get a real permanent licence and free upgrades during their life.

I was used to buy perpetual licences for all different softwares I use, so I did buy the new perpetual licence for c1 a few days ago After talking to some colleages on a sony event I found out that this was absoltely stupid, because once I buy a new body like the Sony A1 mark two, my brand new C1 licence  becomes absolutely useless for me!

After having realized my fault, I would love to change my new license into a annual one  - but I guess there is no way to do this...

When LR and Camera Raw were still sold with a perpetual license, these restrictions already existed for all RAW formats of almost all camera manufacturers. In this respect, this has nothing to do with C1 or with LR/Camera Raw as a RAW editor. At this point, the camera manufacturer is responsible for adapting the interpretation of the RAW data to a new camera. The workaround is via DNG, but this can lead to a loss of quality.
C1 is constantly releasing support for new cameras and lenses. Anyone who buys a permanent license of C1 will also benefit from new cameras and lenses with a purchase license until C1 is released in a new version. Anyone who buys C1 in the old version 16.4. in November 2024 will receive all camera and lens support until the release of C1 16.5. and so on …  As I said, this was already the case with LR1 to LR6.

Nevertheless, Capture One's sales policy is absolutely unattractive for private customers. Even the lower costs for the Adobe Photo subscription cannot be justified. Commercial customers should have no problem earning the fraction of a daily rate for the monthly subscription fees.
