Live Session - co-editing process with clients features
LoggedWhat problem do you see this solving?
This Post is all about Live sessions Improvements.
The very problem I encountered actually opens a whole new topic of co-editing/validation process with clients through live sessions, and the relevant tools/features. The potential is huge and the feature crazy-useful.
My problem is that after a month of Live session sharing with my clients, where they color tagged the selected pictures and commented the desired modifications, the session shut down (as it should, session duration was elapsed). Ok, that is a very long process over a month, but it's not the point.
So, tags and stars are transferred to my master session on my computer, very fine.
But... not the comments. And they had their relevancy as they were the reference for retouching and modifications. Comments were also used by the chief-client to validate the final pictures, as the color tags were already used by the account manager.
Well...lost. Pity. And feeling stupid explaining that to the client. No consequences.
I assume COP want that Live Session feature to become the market's favourite, and I can already see why it is SO useful. Mostly because informations are secured and transferred directly to the master images, without any misinterpretation or email misreading mistakes. Dope.
So you are certainly working hard on it, and my improvement suggestions may sound redundant. Sorry if so.
Suggestions:
1 - Comments: ..are transferred to the master session. It's planned I know.
Meanwhile Patch: downloadable comments before the live session expires (excel file, whatever).
2 - Clients have sometimes multiple voices. For now they can only use comments and tags (and eventually stars if not already use by me). Giving the ability to multi-tag any picture could help the selection process on the client's side through the web gallery.
(Example: there is 7 color tag, red is used to invalidate, remains 6 colors that the client could attribute. 6 people could give individual voices to the pictures: One could sees who-liked-what and sees which pictures received the most "votes". In my use 6 may not necessary, but let's say 4 (photographer's choice/AD choice's / Boss' choice / John Doe's choice).
3 - When creating variants, to show comparisons after editing, the variants position (1-2-3-..) are not mentioned, they are all named the same. Naming appearance should be worked to allow a more precise distinction on the web gallery. Currently it is confusing.
In the same way: when I need to work the pictures in PSD, I save the .psd version with layers in the session, thus all is in the same place, easy to (re-) export later in a comprehensive batch, multi-formats. The web gallery doesn't display the extension, so the master and the retouched version (.psd) are more difficult to distinguish, especially with subtle color changes and minor structural retouching. Image name appearance could maybe fix that. Or any way to express the version of each picture (V1 / V2 / ..)
4 - Being able to draw on the pictures in the web gallery, and these drawing layers to appear in the master session could be the ultimate feature.
Cumulated with the assignable multi-color tags, every one could color tag and draw in its own color.
When was the last time you were affected by this lack of functionality, or specific tool?
Last week.
Are you using any workarounds or other solutions to achieve your goals in Capture One?
Not for this one. I have to clean the shared folder.
Are you happy to be contacted further about this suggestion or request?
OH BOY, YEAH.

Hi Jeremy,
Thank you for the suggestions!
I'll set this as "logged", because there are different statuses for each topic you bring. I suggest you add your voice to other topics that may cover some ideas that are similar if you find any, the number of community votes is a great tool to surface the most important ideas. In short:
- Comments - we are working on them, but we will need a few months to release something
- Multiple voices - we are well aware and it is on our roadmap, but we have not actively started working on it yet.
- Web gallery improvements - they are logged and tracked, but hard to prioritize at the moment. Still I hope we can do something about them sooner rather than later.
- Annotations - this is the next natural step after the comments, but there is a lot of legacy in Capture One Pro that we have to handle for that to happen.
Thank you again!
