FIXED with new iOS 16.5.1: Apple iOS 16.5 bug stops Apple adapter working with some iPhones and iPads
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
UPDATE 22/06/2023
The issue is now reportedly fixed by Apple with the new iOS release 16.5.1
-
Thanks, unfortunately, I'd already installed iOS 16.5.

I still have 16.4.1 and I still cannot tether with iPhone. I am using Apple cord to connect but no success

Thanks for the warning. I haven’t installed yet. So far I have been using wireless tether no problem

Michiel Mol - from our research we have found that not all models are affected. Did you confirm that you are experiencing an issue?

Thanks 4 warning, i use wifi...it works .....

Is there also import problems from pictures on iPhone. I can’t seem to import new pics yes I’m using 16.5

Please disregard my last post. Old man new tech 🤣🤣

Responding to Christine, I have been sending in screen shots of status but it shows no camera attached. I would really like to get it to work but have not tried the wifi route as I have heard that it's really slow.

C1 works on my iPhone SE 2020. The reason why it didn't work was the expired test version of C1 for iPad, after that was removed, no issues so far.

So it works even with iOS 16.5

I have issues on 16.4.1 as well, my Sony A7R3 is not showing up, although it is connected with a factory Apple to USB-C cable. Wireless is not supported on A7R3 with C1

Never mind my last entry, I just realised that you HAVE TO have a Lightning to Camera adapter. This is just not OK imho.

Connecting a camera is a different story. I can import photos from my iPhone into C1, but not connect to my Nikon z6ii, cabled or wireless. I’ve no lightning to camera adapter. My iPhone is related to my 12.9 inch iPad too small to see what adjustments really do. It rarely can work, but prefer tethering with iPad.

I also have issues on my IOS 16.4.1 with wirelessly tethering my A7iv to my iPhone. My camera shows up for in the connect tab, but it will not connect. I've tried this on two different wifi networks.

I'm still on 16.4 and still unable to tether to my fuji xt3 to my iphone (on the beta) although I have no issue with tethering to my ipad. Using an apple usbc to lightening cable.

Unfortunately it affects me too. I’m CO for iPhone beta user. iPhone 12, Lightning to usb camera adapter connecting GFX 100s. I was able to take 4-5 photos and then message popped up saying accessory use to much power and it will be unavailable. Can’t fix it in any way. It look like some odd firmware update of adapter happened. Adapter was brand new and for 10-15 minutes everything worked well.

Łukasz Gałecki, the GFX 100s is particularly tricky. In our tests, we could so far only get it to work with iOS 16.6 Beta and the A1619 Lightning adapter (the one with a Lightning plug for power).

I figured it out as “normal” adapter supporting only usb 2 allows to connect gfx 100s only in card reader setup. I’m gonna return this adapter. Does A1619 adapter ( one supporting usb 3 input and usb c power supply) require additional power connection (power bank or usb c charger) to work with gfx 100s? I’m thinking about switching one I have for it.

Łukasz Gałecki, good question. I have managed to shoot 50 captures without power supply and then I switched to another camera, as we currently test wide, covering as many different models as possible. But if I was to go on a shoot with the GFX 100s, I would have a power bank with me.

Thanks. At least buying iPhone 15 when it’s out is not necessary just for sake of usb c port. I can live with power bank strapped to tripod, or I’m trying to convince myself? iPad is too cumbersome to attach to camera hot shoe and I can’t see other use for it. iPhone with CO as quick and easy preview of real raf convention with full res files looks like attractive option for landscape/architecture photographer.

is the 16.5 still a issue,
my phone wants to update tonight

I would stop auto update and wait for 16.6. Issue might be fixed by then. Is there anything really necessary in 16.5 that you need to update?

Łukasz Gałecki, what I read out of https://developer.apple.com/documentation/ios-ipados-release-notes/ios-ipados-16_5-release-notes is all related to Matter and Home devices. If you don't have those, you will probably not miss anything from skipping 16.5.

Hi, I have Fujifilm x-t3 camera and iPhone 13 Pro. Capture one mobile application still doesn't work and after connection of mobile and camera I've got message:
My iPhone has 16.5.1 iOS version and it doesn't work. I use a thinner lightening2usb cable ...

I had same issue. It looks like Lightning - usb 2 adapter has not enough spec to maintain stable connection when tethering. According to usb spec USB 2.0 has 5V 500mA and USB 3 has 5V 900mA. I suspect it's the cause. Camera connect (pictures can be imported to Capture One Mobile) just fine if you set connection in camera settings to card reader. Best advice I can suggest is to return if possible USB 2 Lightning adapter and buy USB 3 version (as a bonus you can charge your iPhone using power bank while tethering camera). Other possible solution is to wait until end of September for new iPhone with usb-c connector (that's what I will do).
