Perhaps you need to say a bit more about your setup if you want people to help you. What version of Capture One? What version of Windows? Catalog or session? Did it work before, and if so has anything in your setup changed since then?

Thank you for asking. I'm using Capture One 23, build 16.2.2 with the catalog on Windows 10. It started a few months ago but seemingly out of nowhere. I just started C1 and it stopped showing the pictures in the folder but it is still showing the number of pictures that are supposed to be in the album.

    Thank you, Peter

    (reposting this from another thread)
    --------------------------------------------

    Hi everybody,

in the last weeks i've encountered the mentioned issue more and more.
I currently operate one single huge catalog with around 75000 images. Running on Windows.
In the last few days i went through a lot of images in my folder structure (folder year / subfolder month / subfolder day) and cleaned it up (#delete) do some simple edits here and there
As far is i could observe, for me it happen every time the memory usage of captureone.exe has peaked at around 7,5GB of memory usage.
Suddently when switch to next folder (subfolder day23 to day24) the issue appears, no filters set, no collection select, the counter for the images is showing the correct amount, but no photos visible.

Before i updated to the latest build - i've saved my preset/workspace config etc from the %localappdata% and deleted everything.
I've uninstalled the old build, did a fresh install with the latest build and restored only my workspace config (big viewer + seperat edit/browsing window).

So far, i experience the issue only once since then - which i saves the log files in %localappdata%

If i get the issue again and have another logfile to compare i'll open a bug ticket.

(i'm working "in" software development, maybe this'll come in handy....)

I am fed up with this application and the incredibly slow support. Five months currently with no response. And this is not the only place this issue has been raised with support.

I got a solution some time ago but somehow it was discussed on two posts, that is why I haven’t yet answered here.

The solution was to update to the newest version (not upgrade) and then set the sorting from whatever (name, rating,…)to none for the affected folders and restart capture one. That worked for me.
    Hope this helps.

Same issue today with latest C1 on Mac....soooo annoying. Only half of the files appear, even though in Finder they are in the Capture folder (and can open with PS etc)

I am having a similar issue. I am running version 16.3.7.10 on a Mac under Sonoma 14.4.1. Almost everything seems to load correctly, except for one folder. In Finder there are 12 images, a mixture of DNG, CR3 and jpg. Whatever I do Capture One only sees or loads 4 images: 3 DNGs and 1 jpg. I am usually working in session mode. Every other folder shows up correctly, whatever combination of images. I have tried creating a new catalogue and importing them, but still the same 4 images turn up. No filters are set. I have no idea what is happening, but it is a little worrying that I might not be seeing random images elsewhere. Other programs can see these images as normal.

stuartb - support for Sonoma 14.4 was added in Capture One 16.3.8 (but 16.3.7 only supports MacOS up to Sonoma 14.3, officially). So you might try the minor upgrade to 16.3.8 to see whether that cures the problem. (it won't cost anything.)

I updated to 16.3.8.23 but no change. Should I report this as a bug?

What happens if you copy the problem images to a different location on your computer, and then try to import them from there? If it works OK, there might be some strange thing going on with the folder they are currently in. If it doesn't then there might be some strange thing going on with the image files.

Whether it is a bug in Capture One or a glitch with those files or that folder, is hard to judge. But you certainly could ask Support for help, either way.

I tried that earlier. The image files are still not recognised. I can't think what might be wrong with the image files as I can open them in other programs. Perhaps I'll ask Support.

Do the unrecognized images have grayscale color profiles? Capture One only recognizes RGB and camera native raw profiles.

No greyscale. They are all standard Canon CR3 images straight out of the camera. I have lots of other similar images in different folders and they are all found properly.

Are any of them M-RAW or S-RAW (medium or small raw)? I seem to recall CO doesn't support that for some cameras.

They are compressed RAW (cRAW). My camera only supports that and full RAW. All the other folders containing the same format show up properly.

Do you still have the images on the memory card? Can you download them again?

    Ian

Not on the card, but on a backup drive. I tried downloading that onto the desktop but it was still not recognised. I then took 2 photos, 1 in cRAW and one in RAW, uploaded them from my card to the desktop and they were both recognised. I then moved them to the folder with the previously unrecognised images and they were instantly picked up by Capture One.There must be something strange about the few images in question. As other things seem to be working as normal it's not worth bothering about this particular one.

    Thanks for your attention.

Get the Finder File Info for the unrecognized files. See if they are locked. If they were locked on the card, they may have been imported as locked into the filesystem?

  • stuartb

    No, not locked.

Duplicate one of the unrecognized files in Finder and see if the duplicate is readable?

  • stuartb

Already did that - no difference.

Crazy idea .. rename the folder, then rename it back? Definitely seems like an issue with your system and not Capture One.

Tried that - no luck. I think that we have spent enough time on this one. There seems to be something odd about these files but as others seem to be working properly and new ones added are fine I'll just leave it there.

Same issue here. I have transferred my folder from my internal ssd to an external ssd as per these instructions

    https://support.captureone.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002516757-Moving-folders-of-referenced-images

Next time I opened C1 with the ext ssd attached the photos appear as offline although is showing all the folders and the number of photos.

Have not changed anything in regards to the catalog file , have not chained the name of location only the folder of where the photos were imported

My specs are Macbook pro 14 M3 version, Sonoma 14.5 , C1 version Capture One Pro
    Build 16.4.2.1 (97ca21a)

Thank you in advance for your help

    1. can you use the Locate function to bring the images back online?
    2. Does Capture One have the necessary permissions to access the external SSD? Does Capture One have either Full Disk Access or at least access to removable volumes? See the Full Disk Access and Files and Folders sections in Privacy and Security in MacOS System Settings.

Hi Ian, Thank you for the quick reply.

C1 has access to removable drives , iCloud Drive and downloads. I had the photos to my iCloud folder before.

Ok thank you the locate function did the trick, All photos back online.

    Best

    Have a nice day
