Limitate cache size

What problem do you see this solving?
I have a 500GB hard disk. Preview of my 65k photos take 126GB. I want to limitate the cache size

When was the last time you were affected by this lack of functionality, or specific tool?

  Yes, this!

  I have several catalogs which also contain images I'm not really working with but they contain cached previews from the time I was editing them several months/years ago. And they just keep on bloating.

  I would love to be able to shrink the cache by either:

  • manually pressing a "reduce catalog size now!" button, or
  • having an option to set a maximum cache size (-> for a specific catalog - not globally!), at which point it purges the older full-size previews to make room for newer ones

  This is also a nightmare for doing lean and quick backups, I have to manually exclude the cache potion of the catalog bundle...
