Tethering wireless - send only jpgs

Sending wireless RAW files = slow. Send only JPG's would be great to have a bigger view & rate them. Also use the same file name as the original files on the sd.cfexpress card.
When was the last time you were affected by this lack of functionality, or specific tool?

Are you using any workarounds or other solutions to achieve your goals?
Now I use Camranger. It's working great but, you need an external item and that makes the camera/setup heavier.

Do you mind sharing a few words on what type of photography you are into and why do you tether when you are on location?

I do a lot of interior photography and it's really usefull to use wireless tethering. With liveview also and bracketing mode. And also a lot of business shoots. I walk around and it's really easy to work without a cable but also showing the pictures directly and rating them (with the same file name as the original files).0 -
I am doing a lot of different things, cityscapes in fineart, longtime exposures but I am doing a lot of fine art precision macro shots in studio, a lot of waterdrop shots. Almost all my work afford a lot of time to get the right pic out of cam, but even when I do headshots of people or same things a live view would help a lot an would save me from connecting everything to a mac and a big display…the right composition is half the work instead of zooming and cropping in post..

Thank you both Ronald Zijlstra and Drazen Sokac! I assume that your first priority is to wirelessly tether and control the camera from the iPad and then you would rather transfer JPEGs to save storage and increase the transfer speed. Are my assumptions correct?

Why is it not possible to send only JPEG to the iPhone and iPad, and save RAW on the camera?! Without this feature wireless shooting is useless.
Why didn't you add this feature to your app to make it work with any cameras? Is it really that difficult?
Is it possible for the FUJIFILM X-T5 to only receive JPEG on the iPad?
As far as I know, the PhotoSync application has such an opportunity, which means you can implement it in Capture One.
I'm a professional photographer. I do modeling, product, interior and creative portrait photography.
It is very important for me to be able to transfer photos to my iPad wirelessly, so that my clients can see what kind of pictures they get during the shooting.
The same goes for product shooting. It is convenient for me to have the photos displayed on a large screen so that I can assess the lighting and focus.
For these tasks I don't need to transfer RAW files at all, the smallest JPEG (2-3 Mb), which are transferred in 1-2 seconds, are enough for me. And sending RAW (80-85 MB) I have to wait for 60-90 seconds. As long as this is the case, I'm not ready to buy your app.

Noted Konstantin Fadeev, and thanks for the insights. We were not aware of this need until we launched tethering for iPad, now we do and we will do our best to bring it to the app. What is the editing software you use on your computer?

I am using Capture One 22 Pro on my PC. I would love to upgrade to version 23 (especially since it now supports wireless tethering for the FUJIFILM X-T5), but unfortunately there are no discounts even for those who, like me, have purchased your program several times before. And the cost of version 23 is $360 compared to version 22, which I bought for $120. That's 3 times as much and very expensive for me.
I really hope that an update to Capture One Mobile with support for sending only JPEG comes out as soon as possible. It would just incredibly improve efficiency and make it easier to work both in the studios and on location shoots.

I just want to leave a quick feedback as well.
I'm a fashion photographer, shooting a lot of editorials in studio or outdoors.
Wireless tethering sounds so great for me and it would be such a help, but I can't use it for my photography.
Sometimes I have to shoot very fast to catch the right moment but it takes about 10-15 seconds for my raw to come in.
In 15 seconds I already shot like 15-30 photos more… Jpgs special size m is more then enough to see sharpness and composition on my Mac and the jpgs arrive on screen in around 1 second.
So PRIO 1 for me would be Tehter just JPGs for MAC especially and iPad as well.1 -
Thanks both! Tristan Rösler how would you use the iPad if we supported JPEG only while wirelessly tethered? Who is holding and reviewing when you shoot? Konstantin Fadeev I understand your concerns about the price..would you ever consider switching to our All in one subscription?

Evi K I'm not really using my iPad on set to be honest.
I did capture pilot a lot of time but it has to much bugs to work on a professional set …If wireless tethering with jpg would work, my digi assistant could hold the iPad on a small set.
I'm working with an iWork case and my MacBook most of the time.
So like I said before jpg only for Mac would be awesome.I just tether to see the composition and light a little better but mostly it's for my team to let them see our work, and give them a better idea on fixing hair or styling.
So if tether is not up to date, its useless for us :)0 -

With wireless tethering, the iPad can be mounted on a tripod, placed on a table, or simply put in the clients hands so they can see my images while I shooting.
No one needs RAW in these situations, because RAW is stored on the camera and will be carefully processed at home anyway. But a quick view of a JPEG would be very convenient.

Agree 1000% with Konstantin, I seem to work the same way as him, jpegs for fast review on bigger screen (ipad) and the final work in the office on desktop is the way to get best results, thats why I asked also for the live view option, just to get the right composition on set, and to get the lights right…
storing raws in cam is the perfect way as it is save and easy to transfer since we all have card readers and equipment fot our cams already
almost every camera has its own wifi and we can connect our ipads on set for easy use, hopefully we can get these features asap maybe we would trigger even more users for the mobile app with this possibilities

Agree 100% with everyone here. It would be my primary use on locations to be able to have clients see the images come in quickly on the iPad as JPGs and have the RAWs saved to the card in camera, Even tethered with a USB-C cable would be workable, but wirelessly would be ideal and a game changer. Editing the session on the iPad is low priority for my workflow.

For me this would be a nica additional gimmick but it is not a lifechanger, a simple liveview would be much more helpful

In this case I think it might be very helpful to take some basic adjustments and to get them aaplied to the next take immediately, but for me the taking pics is something that happens on the set or in the field, it would be great to have the composition and light right in the place and the post will happen from raw anyway on a desktop comp and a much bigger and detailed screen.

Personally, I don't really care about being able to edit shots and copy adjustments to next pictures, although it would definitely be useful.
The main thing is to be able to receive only JPEG on the iPad, and save RAW on the SD-card.

I do a lot of sport photography and shoot 100s of images. During the game I pre-select images for consideration by "protecting" the image. My camera is a Nikon Z9.
When I get a break I currently upload the images to my iphone using NX Mobile Air, send to Photoshop Express and then save with a graphic watermark. Those images are sent to my outlets for social media.
What I want is one tool that uploads "selected" images, applies preset and FTP's the result to an FTP server.
Sounds like Capture One Mobile might be able to do this?

I like the iPad-App but not being able to transmit JPG only and save RAW to card is a reason to not use it and cancel the subscription.
My current workaround is:
- Capture One on Surface Pro
- FileZilla as an FTP-Server
- Send JPG only by FTP (Canon R5)
- use FTP-Folder as hotfolder
Downside: I have to use Windows.
So please add the possibility to tether JPG only and save RAW to card on both MacOS and iPad.

Has there been any update in this? I am also brand new to Capture One on iPad and would love to be able to send only jpg to iPad while Raw goes to card. We shoot mostly to MacBook Pro with Capture One but some shoots the iPad is more practical to view on rather than show client the back of camera. The Canon app we use works well but the resolution is not great while my test with jpg on C One Ipad just now is brilliant. Raw is just unusable as is so slow.

Thanks Dan Schultz. I don't think we will have it in the next couple of months but we know how important this is especially for wireless so hopefully we will update you on when we can have it soon. Can you give us an example on why you would tether wirelessly to your iPad and not via wire?

Hello Birton Gilbert, apologies for the late reply. Currently when you export on the app you use the iOS share menu. If your FTP server is there, you could send it. I suggest you give it a go and let us know what works or doesn't work for you. Feel free to send me an email at eke@captureone.com and I will help you out if needed.

We would also like the option to only send jpegs to the iPad and just leave the raw files on the camera card. We use the iPad tethered wirelessly to the camera so our Art Directors can view the pictures as we shoot. The RAW files take waaaay too long to transfer wirelessly. We are shooting out in the field (not in a studio) and a wired connection in that environment is not practical.
