    Another use case is distortion correction from scanned or photographed negatives.

    For scanned negatives (tiff, jpg) you could correct for distortion of the lens used to create the negative.
    For digitalized negatives using a digital camera, you would first correct for distortion of the raw file and then do the second correction (for the lens used to create the negative) on the exported file.

    Yes, I hadn't thought of negatives.  Even if Capture One didn't have a profile for the same lens that made the negative, I'm sure there would be something close.
