I bought a Sony A7 iv in April and Capture one in May (perpetual licence). If I have to pay for a new version of Capture One just for my new A7C ii, even though the ARW files are identical (!!!), 6 months after - I'd be quite angry and I believe I won't be the only one.
I'd understand if the files were really different, but it's not the case so it would be just a rip-off.

I installed new version 16.3.0 (I guess today's new release is 16.3.0 rather than 17.0.0 after all) Trial version (which doesn't yet have any release notes on C1 site) and activated it with my new perpetual license key. I was fully expecting A7CII Raw files support to be included but it doesn't seem to be. Raw files are still not visible...
Based on C1's new policies they would not introduce new camera support in bug fix releases like 16.3.x and such would only be introduce in new feature releases like 16.3.0, 16.4.0 etc. If it takes another ~3 months to 16.4.0 until A7CII support is introduced and I have to buy a new perpetual license to get it again it will be highly disappointing...

Hello everyone, I noticed that the ZF Nikon came out after the A7Cii and is already supported. Very disappointed for me

Looking at the recent history of new camera support additions:
16.3.0: File support for Apple iPhone 15 Pro / Pro Max
16.2.5: Nikon Zf
16.2.4: Fujifilm GFX100 II, Sony A6700
16.2.1: Leica Q3, FUJIFILM X-S20, Pentax K-3 Mk III, Panasonic Lumix DC-S5II / DC-S5IIX, Sony ZV-E1
16.2.0: Nikon Z8Looks like they've been adding new camera support in "bug-fix releases" like 16.2.x continuously although I got the impression from some of their blog posts that new camera support introductions were also limited to new feature releases. I doubt that they would ever update 16.2.x line anymore now that 16.3.0 is out, but at least there is hope that A7CII and A7CR support could be added e.g. in 16.3.1.
A7CII seems to be the most requested camera in this "Request camera support" forum that is planned to be supported but not yet delivered, so I hope that gives them some urgency to deliver it...

I echo some of the above frustration. It is somewhat not believable that a major studio like C1 is not supporting a camera because they can't get their hands on it, but what is even more unbelievable is that there has only been 1 response from the C1 team during the last couple of months. Not even an attempt to appease its customers or provide further explanations.
And this is not an obscure camera - the A7CII and A7CR are probably one of the better selling new cameras.
Ian - I think we all respect your volunteering work on these forums, but I think where you can potentially add value is to escalate this with the C1 work team. No one is blaming you personally but we would be most grateful for an official response, and we are hoping you can provide that communication bridge. I'm sure all of us are watching both threads with anticipated breadth....

John Valentine I'm not going to go into specifics on why we don't have the camera as that won't help anybody.
What I can tell you is that as of today, we do in fact have the camera in house.
So you can expect file + tethering support to follow shortly.

Then they apparently still have to learn what is sometimes self-evident for other software manufacturers: on the one hand, to further develop the software in a timely manner so that their paying customers can continue to work with it in a timely manner and, on the other hand, to inform them in good time whether the update will appear at some point and hopefully soon there are no additional costs associated with this. DxO, for example, had brief problems after releasing camera support, but they didn't leave their customers out in the cold, answering questions and releasing an update within just two weeks. That's called customer service and it should go without saying - but what happens with Capture One?
What is currently happening here is a mess and the suspicion that the holders and buyers of a current permanent license may want to collect twice as much cannot be dismissed, at least until the manufacturer feels comfortable denying this .
And yes, I am also affected - as the owner of a permanent license (CP 22) and because I changed my system and now work with a Sony Alpha 7CR, which was released at the same time as the 7C II and has the same problem with the latest version of CP has. An update is currently not possible and alternatives are needed.

When is the Sony α7cII support?

Also, Adobe Lightroom Classic has support now for the new cameras. So if you need to edit and sort your ARWs, you can do it in that. Not ideal, but works.

best reason so far to revisit Lightroom...I wish CaptureOne support would actually provide a response...even if it is not what we want at least we know they are listening...I am going to go see if I can tolerate LR now...

A7C2のRAWデータの編集を楽しみにしています。
チームの皆さん宜しくお願いします。頑張ってください!3 -
How can it be, that Adobe is already offering for weeks support for Sony A7C II raws and Capture one not. Since 2 weeks I cannot use my camera and I‘m slowly thinking to go to Adobe

It is very clear that C1 does not want to provide free support for this camera. It wants to make money from supporting the camera. C1 is very greedy,
3 -
I don’t think that’s a valid argument..The a7c is not in limited supply like the Fuji x100 v for example. How was Lightroom able to support it so quickly. The new subscription model and fee was rolled out to provide quicker updates and that is yet to be seen.
3 -
Well if you honestly believe that Capture One are just "sitting on their hands" there is probably nothing I can say to make you think differently, except that I don't believe that they are.
3 -
I'm sorry Ian Wilson, but it doesn't say clearly at all. You have to know what you're looking for. From the homepage, to checkout, there is no mention that your Camera may not be supported.
It does say on the product page "Fine-tuned by our in-house experts, our RAW converter is customized for nearly 600 camera profiles and over 700 lenses." Which is misleading, because it does not say you won't be able to open your RAW files if they're not on this list.
So Björn is right I'm afraid. It does need to be stated more clearly on the website before purchasing.

Capture One Pro (16.3.2) Release Notes – Capture One
Thanks to the Capture One support team for helping to achieve this. Please note that the A7CR and A7CII are the only additional camers supported in this release so this thread surely helped :-)3 -
Need to get the support
2 -
Today I shot a baptism today, half of my pictures with Sony a7c ii --> I'd need support otherwise I can't deliver half of my work!
2 -
2 months is quite the delay. got my camera yesterday thinking this would have already been implemented a long time ago...

Hello,
by when wil you support raws from Sony A7C II ? Urgently needed !
2 -
Is there anyone from CaptureOne here that can throw a little bit of light onto this quite annoying subject please, CaptureOne Pro ?
2 -
I’m also really surprised, that the A7C II is not supported yet by C1! Just decided to move on with C1, but this is a draw back… C1 Team please let us know, when our new lovely small cameras will be supported by your product! Thanks!

Hello all,
there is a work-around. Use Exif Pilot (+/- 14 € on Mac) or Exif editor or an alternative to change the camera name to "SONY ILCE-7M4" and it will work flawlessly. Evidence this camera support is a total bulls**t, a trick to make us pay an expensive upcoming update.
If this trick stops working following an update --> Good Bye Capture One.
2 -
The saddest part here is the lack of communication from C1 team. Their silence is deafening.
2 -
Jack W That's great to hear - appreciate the update and it would be great to get native support!
In the meanwhile I'll continue to use exiftool to masquerade the ARW files as A7m4....
2 -
I don't really understand the whole problem either. Obviously CaptureOne decides primarily on the basis of the model in the EXIF. If you change this to ILCE-7M4, the loading process works and you can edit the image.
I'm a software developer myself and I don't understand the problem from that point of view either. There must be a simple mapping somewhere where model and loader are linked. If I, as a developer, had to change the code every time because of "such a small thing", then that would really annoy me.
So from my point of view, it would be nice if the development team would give it some thought and explain the problem to us.2 -
Folks, calm down.
Yes it is a pain that C1 takes so long to add a not insignificant Sony camera model to its supported portfolio.
Yes with the current policy it is a big question mark whether if you buy a license this week, the support for the A7C II will still come before a new major release to be paid for comes along.
Yes it feels like you are heavily pushed into the subscription model to avoid this.
This a dangerous game to play for C1, with LR/PS being much cheaper per month as of today. The risk of users switching to Adobe is not zero, especially those that originally went to C1 exactly because of the possibiliy to buy yearly licenses as desired. It may even indicate a financially not so sound situation also.
But: Other SW also requires new updates to support new camera models. And while hacking the EXIF does work, it is unclear whether the exact implementation of the color rendering is really identical to the 7/4 model.
Work is in progress, so I hope and wait.
