Adjustments lost when zooming
Hello again fellow C1 users.
I'm facing yet another breaking issue in C1. I've had various other issues but this one is so big it deserves its own forum post.
So here I am working on some photos but this time not in my professional capacity, just some night time photos that I like to take. Clicking away happily until I zoom on my image and what do you know? Surprise! Some adjustments are lost when zooming past 67%. All is good up to 50% but the next zoom step (67%) breaks some of the adjustments.
Now in my opinion this is so batshit crazy that I lost all confidence in using C1 for processional work. I mean if I can't trust what C1 is showing me, then what's the point of using it at all?
Please excuse the quality of the gif, but it still shows the issue quite well I think - look at the grass.
So even though I've been using C1 21 with not too many issues in a professional capacity, ever since I've upgraded to 23 I keep having all kind of issues that make me rethink using C1 for my professional work. Sure, for hobby work it's fine but when I do professional work I need speed and reliability, neither of which are provided by C1.
At this point I'm thinking of switching back to LR after many years of using C1. LR is cheaper now and has a perpetual mode in which you can still use it for viewing and organizing even after the subscription ends, so that's something I'm considering.
The most recent issues that I had with C1 are:
1. On 4k screens it takes 2-3 seconds to switch between images, in which time I only see a very low resolution, blocky image. Only the 2 most recently used images are loading fast enough, all others take seconds. I do 4k video work as well, so switching to an 1080p display is not an option for me.
2. If I use some of the metadata fields such as Supplemental Categories, then every now and then C1 hangs when trying to apply a metadata preset that uses said fields. And I *have* to use Supplemental Categories for my export procedures. I'll probably say more in a separate post.
3. This zoom issue that I described above.
4. Sometimes on adjustment layers the adjustments don't work. Then when I try and delete that layer, it doesn't work. Then when I try to delete that variant from the Album, it says "Could not remove variant". So yeah... weird stuff. However this is not as breaking as the first 3 issues.
5. C1 21 didn't even show my images in the importer when I switched to the Sony A7IV. I did have the "all-cameras" version of C1 as I always do, but the issue was that C1 placed this artificial limit in which Sony A7III images were accepted but not A7IV. No technical reason, no incompatibility, nothing except *artificial* limits.
Issue number 1 I've been having for about 4 years now. I've reported it, wrote about it on the forum, yet *nothing* happened. The issue is just slightly improved in C1 23.
Issue number 5 was a doozy. I might just create a separate post for it.
I am a huge C1 fan, for 2 big reasons:
- Perpetual licensing is still available so I have peace of mind when traveling because I don't need internet to use the software. Considering that a lot of time I don't have internet access available, this is great!
- The interface is awesome, all the settings that I need, amazing tools for color, everything right there at one click away.
But really it's getting harder and harder to use it professionally because I can't rely on it. The metadata issue kept me awake in the middle of the night because I had to deliver some photos and C1 decided to act up earlier so I had to manually export and name all the images in that session.
