external ssd drive connection

i have a MacBook air 2023. I store all my pictures on an external hard drive not my mac drive. I have changed to a ssd external drive, all the folders and pictures have been copied to the new ssd drive. When i plug the new drive in nothing is downloaded to my catalog, when i plug in the old drive it all works as it should, how do i point capture one pro to my new drive? i'm not very good at these things so any help would be really appreciated.
