Can't import jpeg photos from a folder

I have the Fujifilm Express version of Capture One 22. So far imports fine raw and jpeg files from a SD card shot with a Fuji cam. 

Yesterday tried to import other files into it - pointing to the either to folder or trying files either one by one or by select all:
Import->Choose Folder and nothing happens

I can see the files in there (jpgs), Windows opens and works fine with these files, they also import and work fine in Luminar and other image editors.  

Looking at file permissions - I am the owner. Only thing I can think of they're created on a Nikon camera.

  It is probably because they are shot on a Nikon, then.

  Ian, it may have changed, but I recall that the Express versions accepted JPG files from all cameras. The limitation was for the raw files. But even then, you could import raw files from another brand, which were read-only.

  I am not sure about JPGs straight out of the camera.
