Tell us more, for instance are you on Mac or Windows, and on what version of MacOS or of Windows? And do you mean Capture One 23 (so a release between 16.0.0 and 16.2.6 at the latest) and not the newest version of Capture One Pro (release 16.3.0 or more)?

Where is the catalog located? Does the problem show on a new/dummy catalog, or maybe you can't even access the Most Recent panel?

Hi.  before the old computer crashed, I was fortunate to have the catalog and images stored on an external hard drive.  I got this connected to the new computer and everything seemed fine.  I transferred the images to the new computer internal drive and the catalog is currently located on the desktop.  Following my comment I have just 'verified' the catalog and made a repair.  It is too early to determine whether this has made a difference.  I feel the problem is related to C1 as I can run photoshop without any problem and in all other respects the computer is functioning properly.

Just to add, verifying and repairing the catalogue has made no difference, the computer freezing still happens randomly.

This might be unrelated to Capture One, just like I have such problems since a long time - even made a support case, but the problems diminished after moving around receivers for mouse/keyboard and most importantly, disconnecting SanDisk 4TB SSD, that I keep my working sessions on... Looks like USB drivers or electric charge in ports were doing evil things to my Windows machine.

Thanks Marcin.  I accept that as a new computer there is the possibility of the problem being there, but all my other programs run ok, and the computer does not freeze, so I am suspicious of C1.  I do find it odd that when the freeze happens I am unable to bring up the task manager to close C1 as it freezes the whole computer.

Yeah, I felt the same, yet it seems to be completely outside Capture One for me. Are there any components that are in use only with Capture One? An external/internal drive, tablet? Or maybe only C1P is exceeding a specific threshold of RAM? Try disconnecting these devices temporarily or emulating the load with other applications.

Thanks John.  The catalog was very recent and last used on the old computer about 3 weeks ago, so it should have been up to date.  I transferred the catalog and images from and external hard drive to internal drives on the new computer.  When I first ran the catalog from the external hard drive everything appeared to be working ok, but as a consequence I did not carry out any editing to know if this problem would have existed if I had left all the data on the external hard drive.  I proceeded to transfer all the images and the catalogue to the internal hard drives and from what I can see the Auto sync sidecar in preferences was not turned on.

I have created a new catalog for testing to see if the problem persists, but it is too early to tell and I will report on this shortly.  I am thinking one possibility may be to establish a new empty catalogue and to import the original catalogue into this, but I feel I am rather grasping at straws.

Hi Guys, small update.  I tried creating a new catalog and started uploading some fresh images.  At first it seemed to be progressing further than before but unfortunately it only got half way though the importation before feezing the computer as before.  I now think i have to raise this with support.  Does anyone think it would be worth trying an uninstall and reinstall of C1 ?

If its till a problem in your image settings in Preferences, look at Auto Sync sidecar XMP. Try setting it to none if its not already there.

Thanks Richard, unfortunately that setting is already at 'none' and still having random freezes.  I generally use a tablet and pen and did think it might be the Wacom driver, but after experimenting the freezes happen with both only mouse use and pen use.

For some reason the computer details I submitted did not appear, so I repeat them here:

    Windows 11 Home  V.23H2

    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-14700KF   3.40 GHz

    64Gb Ram

    Graphics: RTX 3060   12 Gb

Latest version of Capture One Pro (just downloaded a week ago).
