This time, did you use Finder to move the folder instead of using Capture One to move it?

The files are moved to the right direction and if I look in explorer (using windows at work) the files are placed in the right folder. I can locate them in C1, but as soon as I close and reopen C1, it's back to basic,

I made a new catalog for now to be able to work. But it would be really nice to have my main catalog working! :)

It would be worth verifying the catalog (on the File menu) in case it's got it's database in a twist.

Tried that one out now, it failed to verify, I repaired it, but still doesn't work. Tried to verify again and it still failed.

OK. I gather from WalterRowe that a tactic that often works in such a case is to

    • create a new empty catalog
    • import the old catalog into it (File>Import Catalog>Capture One catalog...)

Yes that is my typical "last resort". If the catalog also will not import into a new catalog, then you are left with any catalog backup you may have or its a total loss. I hope this isn't a total loss for the user.

So, I did try to make a new catalog and import the old one to it.

The new catalog din't include all the photos, the 2023 folder had around 5.000 photos and there are around 10.000 photos from year 2023. Some folders where empty in CaptureOne and some of them didn't excist. When I located a missing Sub-folder to include it in C1 it appeared, but all folder on the same sub-folder level moved in to the subfolder i located. and the photos in the subfolder didn't show up in C1.

This is wild! I guess I can sync the folder to import the missing photos to the folder, but then I lose all the adjustments?

Also, whn I closed C1 with the new catalog. there is only 299 photos in the 2023 folder, and there was around 5000 photos in it when I closed the program, and made a backup.

Okey, so I moved the folders back from the server to the internal drive, said to IT to remove mallware software protection from Captureone and did a new installation.

Moving th efiles to the internal drive seems to work. BUT there are a lot of files I can't see in C1. In explorer there are files in each subfolder. But in C1 there are 0 photos in the same folder. All of them are corectly spelled and matching each other. I've tried to locate the fodler, but nothing happens/ the photos doesn't appear in captureone. I can get them in to the folder by syncing the folder. But then they appears as new photos and all the adjustments dissapers.

And as I can't see the photos in the subfolder in C1, with a question mark on the thumbnail I can't locate the single photos either.

Is there a way I don't know about, to insert photos in each subfolders so I can keep the adjustments and rateings? It would help a lot!

    • Are the images in the sub folder of a different file type e.g. tiff or are they all raw images? (this question is heading to the view>global filters menu).
    • If you select the "All images" collection in C1, do the images which are missing in the subfolders show up, maybe with the offline question mark?

Almost all photos are CR2 from Canon, some are Tiff. I double checked the global filter tab and I haven't marked any filter there.

I've attatched a screendump here, you can see that some folders are empty, but in Windows File system I can see the raw-files. And for some reason I get two folders with the same name, like "Kontorsmaterial", I only have one of those in explorer.

    Uuh what a mess.

Just a few recommendations, maybe they are helpful, maybe not.

First, backup your current catalog or catalog file.

If you have a better catalog backed up you can try use this one. General idea is to

    (1) either locate the folders or images with the locate function in C1

    (2) or to put the images with the Explorer to the location where C1 expects it to be, and then move them using the C1 lib tool where you want them to be (read: on a local or directly attached storage).

With right-mouse click select "Show info" which opens a small panel in the lib tool and shows you the path of a selected folder, so you can distinguish between the folder referring to the server and the local folder (e.g.  for the two Kontorsmaterial folders in the lib tool). But maybe the path is even the same...

You can also right-click and select "Show in Explorer" to see where it brings you to (for those folders which are not 'offline' with the exc. mark).

Maybe you can move the 196 images from the first Kontorsmaterial folder to the second. But first check if the images are not in both Kontorsmaterial folders. For those which are in both folder, see which ones have adjustments. Don't overwrite images in the C1 catalog which have adjustments.

Right-click on CJ-Sushi and select "Locate" to locate the folder on your local disk. If it is not there then create if and put the 22 image into it. Hopefully your adjustments/ratings will restore.

Niva1, Beachflaggor: Probably the image adjustments in this catalog are lost as there is no number of images shown.

    Request support from C1.

P.S. (In case you don't part from Capture One...)

Sometimes it is the software messing up the catalog, sometimes it is the user (I did so in the past). It doesn't matter why, some kind of messes are hard to cleanup, some cannot without loss. And C1 does not have good features to support you cleaning up.

Hence I parted from being dependent on any catalog, I just store my images in a folder structure and I always use a session to edit them. This way, all adjustments and metadata are stored locally in files in the CaptureOne/Settings sub folders.

This is not to say one cannot mess this up too, but you only need to keep your settings files (.cos and .comask) in this subfolder relative to its original image, and then you will not loose adjustments so easily (unless there is a severe bug in C1 which is less likely because sessions are quite robust, catalogs have proofed many times that they are not).

I am not even dependent on a specific session as I don't need information stored in a .cosessiondb file, e.g. no albums, instead I use smart albums using keywords and IPTC data. Keywords and IPTC data are stored in the .cos files too, even the variants. Just remember which smart albums you have (and how they are defined, so that you can restore them manually), then you have all you really need in the CaptureOne/Settings subfolder.

You would be missing catalog features like searches or smart albums over all images in your folders hierarchy, but you can always create a new catalog and import your images incl. adjustments and metadata. You can then use the catalog for searching over all images, read-only so to say. As long as you do all your adjustments/ratings/meta etc. in a (any) session you can throw away any catalog (or even session) as you can create a new one at any time, recreating your image related information from the .cos and .comask files.

Thanks BeO for all the help!

I think I will just locate all I can to get adjustments, then just sync the fodlrs to import all photos. Most of the 5 star photos are also exported as TIFF/high res JPEG so I can use them most of the time. And the backlog are relevant around 1-2 years. So after that time most of our products are irrelevant.

I have the full folderstructure active, and I've tried to move the photos in explorer and locate them, but the catalogue only finds the existing one, so I guess, for some reason, the missing files are excluded from the system files in the catalgou.

For what it's worth, I have exactly the same issue.  Moving folders is always an issue for me.  Today I tried to avoid problems by moving folders in explorer first then re-locating them in Capture One.  But Capture One keeps bringing back the old folder names and hierarchy into the catalog.  If I delete it, it just returns when I re-start Capture One.  I have tried deleting the user config file as well as verifying the catalog and nothing seems to work.  Have spent the last hour trying to move just 5 folders, I am repeatedly removing the old folder references from Capture One but it keeps bringing them back.  This sort of thing has been happening to me consistently for years unfortunately and I have found no solution.  My folders are on a local hard drive.
