    Gert,

    Floating tools?

I think the developers would need to consider the way you wish to make use of floating tools rather than, say, a specific set of your favourite tools in a user-defined tab in the tool sets. That would make then more readily accessible.

That said, if you like the concept of having tools floating on the screen when you work there may be a case for modifying the entire approach to the UI.

I don't often work with floating tools but when I have some open they usually persist from editing session to editing session until I close them. That may be because I most often do not fully close C1 but put the machine into hibernation (or it times out and goes into hibernation) and so the session (or sessions) are rarely "closed".

maybe there's a misunderstanding. I used the term „floating tools“ trying to explain what I’m talking about. I only want to find the workspace of CaptureOne exactly the same appearance as I left it. And not to click on dwarf-triangles to see the tools I need. That’s so tiring

„tab“ is the word! I don’t want to open always the same tabs again and again that I need for my working in Cpture One

Do you want all tabs open all of the time?

Or could you creat your own tab with just the tools you want to use and save the Workspace with a new name that would not be overwritten by a default update?

no, i have my workspace saved.then tab is not the right term. i’m using C1 in german
for example the exposure tab. When i want to rename in the exposure tab a new output, then i have to open this small under tab always new. it is not saved in my workspace, that i left it open.
i just want to find the tools i need open, as i left them and those i need not closed as i left them.

    Gert,

    Mac or Windows?

    Sessions or Catalogs?

    I use sessions. And Windows.

In the userconfig files, saved by "user" in C1, each recent session opened has been saved with the last used settings for that session. When I re-open the session those settings will be used.

HOWEVER, if one has certain tools open, especially anything that floats by default - like the colour value pins, for example -  they are NOT session dependent but apply to all active sessions or catalogs.

Also, IF, in the course of your editing activities, you use a personalised workspace but add further changes that you want to keep for the future you will need to save the workspace again to redefine its contents. For multiple variations of a Workspace that might have different settings for different purposes, save the workspace with a new name.

Bear in mind we are discussing a computer system here and there may be some system settings that are intended to work  - like automatically updating userconfig files as a function of the operating system, but for some reason do not work. Some specific and detailed analysis would be required to discover if that was part of the problem you are experiencing. However, at the moment it is not possible to be sure whether your problem might be related to that concern or is just unsupported functionalty.
