2 easy options to massively improve activation process
My suggestion is for the licencing window. Add the phrase "If you have a Licence key choose "Deactivate..." to deactivate your trial and register your licence key".
The more complex solution is simply for the email that contains the licence key to take you direclty to an authentication page where you can enter the key and your software converts to the licenced version. We should not have to deactivate it manually, thats what automation is for. If you can provide a unique link in the email, then you should not even have to manually enter the key.
Why make this change?
Because the email providing the licence key after purchase contains a useless and confusing link. The link should presumably authenticate your software, but instead takes the user to a download page to download the exact software they already just spent time downloading, and when you install that software, you are still in trial mode, which makes no sense. Then the user has to figure out that Capture One has a weird process on licencing and provides to guidance during the process. Sure it's burried in some support page, but you shouldn't have to reference support pages when simply purchasing and activating your license. Choosing "Deactivate" under the license window is not intuitive when in a trial. Its not even clear what that means at all. I would more associate that with breaking an association to a specific laptop. usually its just "update" or "register your key". This deactivation thing is basically just weird and gives a bad impression. The user should not have to google this process to follow the activation process.
