New Approach To Licensing Is Offensive

The biggest problem here is that we do not receive bug fixes after the next .dot release. That is a showstopper, for me, especially because their software is full of regression (read: new) bugs in old functionality. But I will not subscribe. They need to get their maintenance policy for perpetual licensees right, which they even indicated here in the forum but apparently to no avail.

John you would think so - I purchased on November 10th. But my purchase page says 16.3.3 is the latest version I am eligible to download. All this nonsense is so frustrating!

I am a long time C1 user. The new permanent license model, which changed the way updates are available is just silly. I JUST upgraded a few months ago, and now my account page tells me I'm not eligible to down load a simple .dot upgrade? That's ridiculous. I just bought, and am being told I cannot update to 16.3.4?

It feels like C1 is going out of its way to alienate customers. Frustrating and sad.

Instead of outright opposing the model, suggest alternative approaches that might address your concerns. Perhaps a discounted update for existing users or a grace period for recent upgrades could be a possible compromise.

I've never seen a company with so many customer-hostile actions in such a short time.

    Indeed.

Hi guys , i was evaluating buying C1. But the licensing when you buy a permanent license was not crystal clear. So you confirm me what i was afraid of.

if you buy 16.0 you don't have access to minor release 16.1, 16.2, 16.3. If you want an interesting update because for example they solve an OpenCL / CUDA issues with your specific GPU , you are good to buy the software again if you don't want to go for subscription.

I agree with other this policies is really bad. Because who in his right mind would buy a permanent license of a software that use GPU acceleration without the ability to update the minor versions.

The way i see it is a way to push you to subscription only. I think you should write this very clearly on your webpage. if you buy 16.0 you will not be allowed to have 17.0 nor 16.1 nor 16.2 nor 16.3. you are just allowed to update to 16.0.1/16.0.2.

It is important to know excatly what you buy even when it's a bad deal.
