Tethering problem - no connection - 'Internal Error, code 11'

The problem has been solved after intensive research overnight.  I switched off Dropbox and Google Drive. After that Capture One instantly recognised the camera. It seems to be a computer OS malfunction rather than a Capture One or the camera itself.

These apps were probably grabbing control of the camera in attempt to auto-backup pictures to the cloud. Capture One doesn't like other apps grabbing control of the camera.

Yes, that's what happened. It is something new to me though. There was no indication or any alert except Capture One error. Lesson learned.

I am getting the same error the past few days here. Sometimes the camera actually connects after displaying the error window (code 11). I do not have dropbox or google drive installed. Could Adobe Creative Cloud be a culprit for this??

I would dry to dry to disconnect all clouds . It may help.

Do you have any other software installed and running that wants to grab the camera? Sony software of any kind? Adobe Lightroom that might be trying to talk to the camera? Capture One is really finicky about any other software interfering with its control of the camera communications.

I do not have Lightroom or anything from Sony. I do have Creative Cloud, Indesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Bridge, Acrobat all installed. It sounds like it is not really possible to disable Adobe Cloud Storage (even though I do not use it), which is why I was wondering if it might be the problem? A screenshot of the error window is included below. Any other suggestions appreciated. I did not have this issue until recently. Not sure what's changed.

I had exactly the same problem a month ago. Turning off the clouds helped. Previously everything always worked, even when all clouds were ON. I believe something has changed within Capture One itself. I would check if there is anything else on your computer which may trigger a connection with the camera (like forced backup or so).

I got this exact error code as well on my Nikon Z8. In my case I tried everything you recommender without success. Then I realized the camera was set to video on the physical camera house. I had shot video the day before and forgot so flip from video to camera when I wanted to shoot stills. Perhaps others might do the same misstake as me. :)

For the past year, I have been experiencing this error intermittently. I reached out to Capture One support and we tried numerous solutions, but were unable to find one that worked. The frustrating aspect of this was that the error would come and go. When it did occur, I would receive a "Attach Camera" warning and an "Event Log" window notifying me of a "Code 11 Tethering, Internal Error". Despite this, the camera would still connect and I could continue shooting.

However, yesterday and today, the error consistently happened whenever I disconnected and reconnected my camera.  Looking at the warning notice in more detail, I saw that it said that the camera was "busy". Busy with what I wondered.

I turned off the camera, removed the tether, pulled out the CFexpress card (which had old image files on it), reconnected the tether, turned the camera on, and .... there were no warnings!  Then, I turned off the camera again, disconnected the tether, inserted the card, reformatted it, reconnected the tether, turned on the camera, and .... no warnings.  I repeated the process by turning off the camera, untethering it, turning it back on, taking a shot to the card, turning it back off, re-tethering it, and turning it on again .... and no warnings. This surprised me, and I am still unsure of what the issue is, but I suspect it has something to do with the card in the camera.

I hope this information is useful. If the problem resurfaces, I will post again and share my findings with you.

FYI - I have "Open importer when detecting card from digital camera", the "Re-Tether", and the "Save to camera card" settings turned off.

I had the exact same problem as Robert Olding! Out of the blue Capture One constantly showed error code 11 and said that camera was "busy". I hadn't changed anything about my Canon R6 and only use it inside the studio, so I at first suspected my USB cable might be broken, but no.

I also had an SD card in my R6, which had been there for months, but for some reason now it caused the error. Once I removed it, everything worked well again.

I've been having the same issue

This was capture one's response below in dot points but found that it still wasn't stable and the best result has been from the last tip at the end from my local camera store.

Tethering cable should not be longer than 3 meters. The longer the cable is, the weaker the signal you will get. Thus, it is highly recommended to use a cable that is less than 3 meters long.

    - Update your camera firmware (many tethering issues come from outdated camera firmware)

    - Allow Capture One to have full access on macOS Allowing Capture One to have full access on macOS

    - Please, ensure that any third-party camera software is not running: EOS Utility, Sony Image Edge, etc..., as they interfere with the communication between Capture One and the camera.

    - In Capture One preferences in the General Tab, disable the option:, ''Open importer when detecting card from digital camera''.

    - If the above won't help you tether your camera please remove any memory cards from the camera.

    - Refrain from using adapters and extensions, as those also greatly impact the signal quality. If an extension is required, then use powered extensions/hubs for amplifying the signal.

    - Do not charge the camera unless this becomes essential. Disable any power-saving settings on the camera.

    - If there are any other items plugged into the workstation, please remove them while shooting tethered.

    - Reset your camera to factory settings.

    - After tuning up the hardware, launch Capture One and start a tethered Session, and please create this new Session to be located on your local disk, not on an external drive. Especially if you are in macOS12. This is for troubleshooting proposes, afterward, you can move it where you want.

    - At last, creating a new macOS admin user is very close to installing a new, clean OS.
You can add and remove users in System Preferences – Users & Groups.
Run Capture One there and create a new document inside the user's Pictures folder, see how it goes.

I tried all of these above but nothing worked.

I then went to my camera store and they told me to turn off my USB power delivery on my camera (which can be found in Nikon's setup menu) and also get Tether tools Tetherguard Leverlock Plate.

This has actually helped a lot by turning off the USB power delivery.

So far so good with this new change.

    Best of luck.

I was running to a similar issue with my XH2 on both my Mac mini and MBA. It was in a constant flux of status (connected, not connected, busy, etc) and realized I was not allowing apps to communicate with devices on network on my computer. Once I allowed it in the system, the problem went away right away. Unfortunately, my issue now is that the files take too long to transfer ( I can't force 5ghz on my Eero).

Moises Gomez you have nailed it. This was the only thing that was wrong in my case. Nothing else was to be done. Capture One was able to find the camera in a snap the moment I changed this MacOS permission. Thank you so much!
