Capture One does not import from Canon R5
When I open Capture One and then connect my Canon R5 via USB and switch the camera on then Capture One does not notice it and it is not available as a "Choose from" option.
If I start the EOS Utility 3 then the camera is recognised and I can transfer images to my hard drive so I think cables and drivers are fine.
I am using a MacBook Pro.

Kill the EOS Utility. It competes with Capture One for control of the camera.

I have removed all Canon apps and utilities, restarted my Mac, opened Capture One. connected my camera by USB and switched it on but Capture One still does not see it.

From the first post, I gather that C1 wasn't tethering, so Ed tried EOS Utility, which worked. I didn't think he'd tried importing with both at the same time.
3 things to check:
1. Does your version of Capture One fully support the EOS R5? (I assume it does)
2. Are you using the latest version of R5 firmware (v2.0.0)? If so, I wonder if perhaps Capture One isn't compatible with it (which would be a Very Unfortunate Thing).
3. If you're trying to tether, In Capture One Settings > Capture, be sure that you've checked the Canon > USB box (and Wireless if you need it). I also have the two "Tethering" boxes checked.

Hi Abbott and Walter,
I have upgraded the Canon R5 firmware to 2.0.0 which is the latest, and Capture One is 6.3.8.23.
The Capture One Settings have USB and Wireless/LAN ticked for Canon as well as the two "Tethering" boxes.
EOS Utility is not running.
I am wanting to use the Capture One Import Images function to transfer images from my camera to my hard drive and have them cataloged but this is still not working.
Regards,
Ed

I work with Nikon cameras. Capture One cannot import directly from Nikon cameras because it wants to treat them as "cameras" for tethering. Perhaps Canon is the same .. can't import directly from the camera. I use a card read which is much faster.
Your alternative is to use the macOS Image Capture tool to import from the card, then import that to Capture One. I prefer to use the card reader to do all this in a single step.

Hi Walter,
Thanks for your explanation. I expect the same is true for Canon cameras. I will transfer images using other means from now on.
Thanks,
Ed

Hi Ed,
I hope you worked it out by now...? It's unfortunate, though out of the effort to help when people assume things do not work or are not supported, gives you an impression that the program is not competent enough.
I can for sure tell you that Canon R5 is compatible with Capture One tethered via USB.
I have the latest Canon firmware. C1 is 16.4.3.15. My computer is Mac Studio M1 Max (2022), OS 12.6.5. I use Tethered Tools cable 5 meter with (a separate part) 3.0 active cable it simply gives some current/strengthens the signal from the camera over the 5 meter cable. The photos show up close to instantaneously. I can control everything from C1 on the camera incl. live view and shoot over wifi as well but then it takes about 5 sec till it shows up.
I can do the same as above with an old Mac Book Pro 2012 though both OS and C1 are a bit older versions but works without any problem.
Be sure to check the Capture tab under "Camera", you need to click on the drop-down menu "Choose camera" then EOS R5 will show up and then choose it. If you don´t do that R5 will not show up or connect to C1!! : P
Also, turn off the camera's wi-fi connection and Bluetooth to avoid any conflicts when using USB cable.
If that doesn't sort it out, the cable is more often than not the trouble that causes one to run around in circles. The cable might work with one program but not with another one.
Check your cable by testing another USB high-quality data cable, not just an USB-charging cable. The third thing that can be faulty is the USB contact of the camera or the computer, test with another computer or camera.
I hope this helps.
Best regards, Martin

Hi Martin,
Thanks for your reply. Walter had already answered my questions. I was trying to import directly from camera but that needs to be done with other utilities. I don't require tethering.
Thanks,
Ed
