Can't Activate any version

I've been happy with V9.1 for years, and it suddenly will only run in trial mode.  So...clock is ticking down on that.  Support said that 9.1 is incompatible with the current build of windows 10.  Strange that it will run, with full functionality, but will not recognize the activation.  So...upgraded to 16.4.4 and IT won't activate.  It won't even run in trial mode.  Trying to do so the window eventually closes.  I don't even get a "thanks for your donation" message.  

I HAVE looked through the knowledge base and tried everything they suggested.  No joy.  

Anyone have similar problems that they've solved?
