macOS 15 Sequoia support
ImplementedWe are currently testing and haven't yet confirmed which version will be supported on macOS Sequoia. We are working towards the next version of Capture One. Therefore, we won't recommend updating to macOS 15 just yet.
UPD: We are not yet able to provide official support for macOS Sequoia due to some issues we've encountered. These issues are related to performance and appear to stem from the Mac side.
For this reason, we won’t officially claim support for Sequoia until we’re confident we have a robust and stable release. We are continuing to work diligently and are targeting the next release to ensure solid support for macOS Sequoia. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Yes - I did the mistake to update too early. Capture One ist working, but i can't tether my SONY A7R4. It recognizes the camera but without connection (with usb-3 cable).
SONY imaging edge remote ist working fine. I tested shooting in the capture folder of C1, this should work up to the fixing update of Sequoia.
Maybe I find a way shooting into the iPhone 15 pro (with usb3-cable, c1 mobile supports this perfectly) and sync it with the macbook without too big lag-time?

There is an old rule from the early days of computing: "Never change a running system!" About a week ago, I talked to an IT service technician, who told me about a company he is working for. They have a machine which is controlled by a computer running Windows NT – an operating system about 25 years old. The manufacturer of that machine has gone the long way home, some 15 years ago, so no way to ever get a new software for a modern operating system. As long as the machine is working, the computer has to be used as well. And it still works!
Apple has released an update to Sonoma (version 14.7), the same day, they released Sequoia 15.0. So, regarding security risks, everything is fine with Sonoma. It might be nice to have the new features of Sequoia, but I can't imagine, that someone absolutely needs them from day one, they are available. People who are professionally working with software, should never update their systems as early as possible. In most cases everything may be fine, but if there is only one release in 10 years when it's not and you have to deliver your work to a client, it is a disaster! So what is the problem to wait two or three weeks before upgrading? If you are so impatient, you could setup a virtual machine to test the new OS. If everything is fine in there, everything should be fine outside the VM. So no reason to complain about CO that they are doing their final tests with the released OS and not only on the release candidates.

Apple gave the release candidate to developers on September 9. So CO has had Amit 3 weeks to test their software on it snd release some statement. Earlier versions were available months ago.
Somehow other developers were able to test their systems. I could cut CO some slack if their program wasn't the most expensive image editor ($299). If it was maybe $29 with free updates, then I wouldn't say anything, but when they want almost the entire purchase price for a yearly update, then I expect more.So Olaf, by your advice above about never changing a working system, do you also suggest that one never update their Capture One?

Gene .. you sound like you are excusing yourself and others for jumping the gun and not checking that software you use is compatible with the new macOS before upgrading. You made a decision. Decisions have ramifications. I have chosen to wait.

Walter, as I said, my work is cutting and selling gemstones. I take photos of them and post them on my site for sale. I don't depend on Capture One. I could use any number of other programs, even the Photos app that comes with macOS. So for me I didn't jump the gun, but you and others are making excuses for Capture One for not doing what so many other software companies have done.
I have found that so far, every feature of Capture One I use is working. I don't shoot tethered, maybe I should, but so far I don't, so I have no issue. I am enjoying the new features of macOS 15.1 however, as you wait.
It would have been beneficial if CO had commenced testing earlier in the summer, when other companies did. If the sole issue is tethering, it would have been preferable for them to disclose this information, ensuring that individuals who do not utilize this feature but wish to update their devices feel secure in doing so.
Well only 2 more days left in September so lets what Capture One releases on Monday.

Alternate tethering with SONY as long as Sequoia is sh*t:
I updated too early ;-( (I knew I should'nt do this!) and now my A7r4 does not connect properly in usb3 tethering in C1. C1 itself is working properly (M1+ Macbook, OS15.0 Sequoia).
This is how I tested tethering until the fixing update comes:
The workaround to use the C1 Hotfolder and the tethering via SONY Imaging Edge Remote works fine! I create a new session for the shoot in C1 and use IEDT (SONY) remote. The A7r4 connects well and I import the RAW data for the camera into the C1 CAPTURE Session Folder. Works perfectly fine!
So I must not go back to Sonoma. One fine thing when using the SONY Software is to realize again, how great, easy, fine and beautiful Capture One Software is! Thank you guys!!!!!!

Ok broken tethering in my studio with sequoia !
Nice.I'm stuck with a 2 inches display for a complex still life work.
Come on guys ! I can't check online if my professional softwares are compatible with the os update every time !
You should take care of it before the final release of the OS update !
This is not WINAMP, it's a professional software that is used by professionals all over the world.
If I stay up to date with my OS is not recklessness ... we update when a software house tells us that an update is available. We are photographers not IT technicians ;-)1 -
I did the update to Mac Sequoia because you told in your insta stories there will be an update until the end of September. My next Job starts at the end of the week. So what's the timeline now? October starts tomorrow....

Could the tethering issues just be about granting access to CO in the Privacy and Security settings again? I seem to remember having to do that with the last big mac os update. But idk.

Again, and I am prepared to die on this hill, THIS FORUM IS NOT THE APPROPRIATE PLACE TO MAKE THESE KINDS OF ANNOUNCEMENTS.
Irrespective of the technical issues, and wherever the finger-pointing finally settles, Capture One should have sent out timely EMAILS to its CUSTOMERS.
It might just have saved a number of people from having problems, and it would save you Mods having to repeat smugly that you haven't upgraded, and "it's your own fault", ad-nauseum.0 -
Here's a follow up on what I wrote on 2024/09/24 ....
I didn’t mention that I have large external hard drives attached to my computer, and I shoot directly to those drives. I don’t shoot to the 'Pictures' folder on my internal Apple SSD that came with the computer. There are 8 hard drives in an OWC ThunderBay enclosure, connected to the computer via an OWC Thunderbolt 4 cable. The eight drives are configured into three separate RAID arrays using OWC's SoftRAID software (latest version).
Late last week, I began to suspect that something strange was happening with the external drives connected to my computer. When I would open various folders on them, the macOS Finder rainbow wheel would appear and spin. Eventually, it would stop, and I could see all the files in the folders.
As a test, I shot a personal project this weekend and saved the files to the 'Pictures' folder on the internal drive. I had zero issues with tethering, and all the files displayed quickly, both in the Finder and Capture One.
So, I believe something is happening with the way macOS Finder is reading the files on my external drives, and that I have no issues with tethering. What appears to be happening while shooting to my external drives is that Capture One is waiting for macOS to perform its various functions on the files before any application can read, write, or display them.

I still see reports about USB connection problems with MacOS Sequoia 15.0 Looking back over MacOS releases for the last 10 years or so, often the X.0 and X.1 releases had various interface bugs, and in one notorious release even in X.2.
MacInTouch is usually a good resource to see what the issues are.
On the other hand MacOS Sonoma by now is a finely tuned, stable, predictable, supported release.
I realize that those who have already upgraded can’t downgrade, however in future years, regardless of your photo tools, especially if your business depends on your software, perhaps hold off on the MacOS upgrade until the X.2 release.
What a brand new OS release can add to your business is outweighed by what it can break.0 -
So a week or so ago when on this thread Capture One said they would have an "update" by the end of the month, they didn't mean a software update that worked, they meant they would update us telling us that their software doesn't work with macOS 15. I think the working could have been more clear as it's apparent that many people were thinking there would be a software update by today at the latest.
Now consider if a first time Mac user bought a new Mac computer this month. It would have shipped with macOS 15 on it. Then think if this person decided they should buy an image editing program for their new computer. If they came to the Capture One site, they wouldn't not be informed that they shouldn't buy Capture One since it's not currently supported on their new computer. Shouldn't there be some WARNING on the home page to the effect: "DON"T BUY CAPTURE ONE JUST YET, instead subscribe to LightRoom, or Affinity Photo or Luminar or any of the number of other solutions that are supported" in bug red letters?

Hi C1 - love an update on being able to tether with MacOS Sequoia 15.0 - our fault for updating too early this time without checking this latest macOS release date.
C1 has the pop up window facility on startup, surely they could use it to make customers aware not to update OS till checked and then give the all clear ?

It seems to me that CO should have said something about this issue far earlier. It seems to be the responsibility of CO to alert their users there will be compatibility issues. That only seems fair. And for the moderators on this site to chastise those of us who "should have known better" is the height of hubris in my opinion. From what they've said, they have many folks working and testing to ensure the issue is resolved but couldn't someone have sent emails out to users telling them/us to wait?

Anyone who experiences tethering issues with Capture One 16.4.6 and macOS 15.0, feel free to contact Capture One Support. The cases we have examined so far were resolved by a reset of permissions. Quit Capture One and in Terminal enter
tccutil reset All com.captureone.captureone16
Note that this is not new in Sequoia, it occasionally was also necessary with previous macOS versions. We have been testing with macOS 15 betas since they became available for developers. Initially we also saw tethering problems, but those were not reproducible after beta build 24A5327a, which dropped in the 2nd half of August.
We have also received internal and external reports on speed performance issues. But we have followed up on all of these now and not identified a bug.
The confirmed issues with Capture One 16.4.6 and macOS 15.0 are:
- You cannot select all paper sizes when printing. This works fine with macOS 14.7 and macOS 15.1 Beta, so we expect Apple will fix it.
- A rare crash related to masking, occurring in <1% of runs. We are investigating this.1 -
Yesterday I managed to get my CO working with my Canon R5 and tethering mode.
I don't know exactly what happened but I set mac os to ask for permission each time an external device is connected. Then I tried to grant full access to the drive to capture one inside security section. Then I turned it off, connected the camera and it magically worked.
I don't know what happened but now it works fine as before.
It should be some kind of bug somewhere.
Who knows ?

I've got Sequoia
-Sometimes tethered images take 10 seconds to resolve or become sharp on the screen
-Sometimes when I move the crop, a faded ghost crop version of the old crop remains until I deselect and reselect the image
-Most of the time external hard drives refuse to dismount
-Half the time the Messages app doesn't work at all
-I silence notifications during shoots, but Sequoia doesn't care. All my upcoming shoots and doctor appointments pop up at the top right corner (but only when the client is looking at the screen)
Most of my issues are just with Sequoia, but they still affect my shoots.

All this tethered talk prompted me to try it.
I tethered my Nikon D750 and used Capture One. I think everthing worked except I wasn't able to focus. I think it was due to the lens. I am using a Nikon ED Nikkor Micro 200 AF and it could be that that lens will not allow focusing through tethering, or I haven't figured out to to do it.
So I switched to my Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark III. Of course this isn't a Camera that Capture One works with so I downloaded the OM Capture software. With this software I can pretty much do anything I could do from the camera. I could make very accurate focusing and even to focus stacking tethered. The photo on the left is from the Nikon D750 and on the right from the Olympus with focus stacking. With the Olympus I am shooting with their 90 mm Macro.
I think I may switch to the Olympus for my gem photos and shoot tethered. I thank all the tethered talk here to gem to give it a try.

C1 Enterprise 16.4.6.20 running on Sequoia 15.0 on iMac 27" 2020 (Intel) and tethered capture is working fine with a Canon RP... what's the catch?

As I wrote in the comment that is pinned to the start of the thread, the only confirmed issue is with selecting paper size for printing, not something many customers do these days. All the other issues that were reported somewhere we could not confirm.

Great, but MacBook Pro M1 15” still does not run with 16.4.20 under Sequoia with Nikon Z9 (three different ones) or Z7II ... The cameras are not recognized. Am I the only idiot here? Good thing I updated and paid the annual subscription price. ... for nothing!!! Thank you very much!

16.4.6.20 running on Sequoia 15.0 - Connecting 5DMK4 (2018 Intel MacBook Pro) there is nothing showing in C1 it's tethering when without a CF card in (so there is NO reference to a 'BUSY' signal whilst connecting, and the body does NOT freeze from shooting (so the body when it has no card in is not recognised at all even though its wired in) BUT if you restart Mac and open C1 again when having a CF card in then it says 'BUSY' and your camera freezes from shooting (so it is trying to read the body) but can't when the card is in) is that where the glitch is. (PS we have tried different wires and bodies running on other computers on old OS fine) - I wouldn't press this only C1 has stated there are no issues - happy of ideas - have had C1 for 20+ years so experienced most issues (yes we updating too early, we know, just hoped C1 would state there was a issue)

I installed Sequoia on a drive partition on my Mac Studio so I could boot into MacOS 15.0 while retaining 14.7. What I will always do with future MacOS releases.
I'm using CO 16.2.6.7, and it seems to be running OK. I can tether. with no issues to Nikon Z cameras, live view, remote control etc.

I can only repeat, if you have tethering problems, contact Support. We have tested cameras from each brand we support, including Nikon Z9, Sony A7R M4 and Canon 5D M4, and they all worked fine. So if you encounter problems with tethering, it is not a general Capture One + Sequoia problem, but at most Capture One + Sequoia + X . Our Support is very experienced in determining this X, tethering problems is the number 1 reason to contact us.
