macOS 15 Sequoia support
ImplementedWe are currently testing and haven't yet confirmed which version will be supported on macOS Sequoia. We are working towards the next version of Capture One. Therefore, we won't recommend updating to macOS 15 just yet.
UPD: We are not yet able to provide official support for macOS Sequoia due to some issues we've encountered. These issues are related to performance and appear to stem from the Mac side.
For this reason, we won’t officially claim support for Sequoia until we’re confident we have a robust and stable release. We are continuing to work diligently and are targeting the next release to ensure solid support for macOS Sequoia. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

I think he is looking for the button to start entering a support request. I also find this button hard to find, but after some searching I do find it.

What's crazy in all of this is not so much the delay in "certification" of compatibility (which however is beginning to be unpleasantly long) but the absence of clear guidance prominently visible on the website or upon opening C1, to spare people from breaking their workflow with the OS upgrade. The uncertainty of the entire calendar is also upsetting. Plus, while some users may be masters of their own OS upgrade decisions, some may depend on corporate calendars that they do not control. Or simply want to take early advantage of OS improvements... Frankly, responses by moderators on this thread feel a bit like ivory-tower attitude: we'll be ready when we are ready and don't care about your needs. Not great.

Another update, all the tethering issues we got our hands on so far seem to be resolved by executing
tccutil reset All com.captureone.captureone16
in Terminal. Make sure Capture One is not running when entering the command. In terms of general issues with Sequoia, we are observing a crash, apparently related to masking. Nobody has reported it to customer support yet, but we see it in the crash reports. If you encounter this, please let us know. The occurrence thus far is just under 1% of runs, affecting ca. 0,25% of users on Sequoia.

Can confirm that Frank Schroeter's terminal command works perfectly. I Updated to Sequoia 15.0.1, and ran the command, then ran Capture One 16.4.6. Connected up my R5, and fired off a couple of tests.

When will C1 be announcing support for Sequoia?
0 -
What's strange is it seems that Capture One has worked all along with Sequoia. I know I have not had any issues.
I think the biggest issue is the lack of information from Capture One, and the attitudes of several of the moderators chastising customers. If I had a forum on my website, and had moderators responding to my customers in similar fashion, they wouldn't be moderators any more.
The response that was appropriate for both Capture One and the moderators was an apology for the poor communication and lack of being ready on day one for the update.
2 -
Exactly this. It's the attitude towards customers that absolutely stinks. I fully understand that technical issues happen when dependent on third parties...
BUT...
There should have been proactive communications by email to ensure customers didn't get caught out.
The smug hubris of the moderators is absolutely unforgivable.
I'd add that I wasn't impacted this time because I learned my lesson from the macOS 14.2 issues, but I flagged these flaws in Capture One's release management process back then, which (despite assurances) seem to have gone unheeded.

I executed the terminal command Frank Leonard Schroeter posted after updating to 15.0.1 too.
Now my A7R4 connects fine with C1 via USB3 cable. Tethered Shooting works as perfect as before. Thank you!

Kudos on the attention to detail, and the detailed report.

I upgraded to Sequoia on my M1 Max MacBook Pro. Executed the terminal command from Frank Leonard Schroeter. Tethered my gfx 100s all day yesterday and didn't have a single issue. Actually it was smother than on previous operating system.

Hello to all
I share my experienceCamera used Gfx 100 II, Mac OS 15.0.1, Capture One 16.4.6.20
Of course tethering does not work.
The only way I’ve come up with working directly with Capture One is with FUJIFILM X Acquire.app 1.27.0.60 -
Is capture one 22 compatible with the latest mac os sequioia? probably won't get an answer and probably swithcing back to ADOBE.I have already had to upgrade what was supposed to be a perpetual license twice amounting to much more than what a membership with Lightroom would have cost me, now I guess if I upgrade my Mac C1 will be rinsing me with another pay upgrade.

Hi,
I have CaptureOne Pro 16.3.7.10, where can I check if it is compatible with Sequoia ? And if not compatible, will the team work on an upgrade (and I mean, without having to buy a new version) ?
0 -
The release notes haven't been changed to say that it's compatible, so it's safest to assume it isn't. They say it's supported up to MacOS 14.3. And I note that the release notes for Capture One Pro 16.3.8 say that that release supports MacOS 14.4. There's no reason not to upgrade to 16.3.8 - if you are on 16.3.7 with a perpetual licence, the change to 16.3.8 would be free.
I think it is unlikely that they would bring out changes to 16.3.7 or 16.3.8 that would make them compatible with MacOS Sequoia. That is one of the downsides of a perpetual licence - not only are you stuck with the Capture One version you bought, but you may also be stuck with the system you had when you bought it.
The only other thing is that you could try it if you are able to roll back to your current version of MacOS. Other users may or may not say that it works for them, but even if it does, that doesn't mean it will work for you.

Paul Parisi - The release notes for the last update of Capture One 22 say that it supported MacOS Ventura (up to 13.0.1). So if it doesn't support Ventura updates later than that, and doesn't support Sonoma (MacOS 14) at all, then I would say that it definitely isn't safe to try to use it with MacOS 15 (Sequoia).
What version of MacOS are you on at the moment?

Ian Wilson thanks for your response. I am sorry to hear that there seems to be no intention to make sure 16.3 will support Sequoia. I get it, it's the new path forward for CaptureOne (among others), but a rather greedy one. This kind of lack of support would have been unthinkable a few years ago, but this is where we are now in the software industry. I am still on Sonoma for now, and in no particular rush to upgrade to Sequoia, but I will have to do it one day - or worse! upgrade to the version after Sequoia.

Thank you Ian Wilson for your response, on the premise, nothing personal, I updated to Sequoia and Capture one 22 still works, however I had to just take a leap of faith nothing on behalf of the company, who has charged me twice for what was supposed to be a "perpetual " license, the use of this term should not be used in any of your clauses considering I had to pay twice in the span of 3 years for incompatibility issues, sincerely bewildered how the antitrust still hasn't intervened. Moving back to LR where with the money I have spent here would have lasted me nearly six years with the much hated subscription.Over and out.

Paul Parisi - perpetual only means that the version you buy on that basis is yours to use forever as it is at that point - but that's dependent on having a computer and OS that can run it.
Glad version 22 is working for you. I'd be careful of further MacOS updates, though!

I'm a subscription user, because the way CO perpetual licences work is a JOKE.
Every other software developer I've seen provides updates to all .x releases of a major version, or at the very least provides maintenance updates for 12 months.2 -
Mr. Wilson,
While it's true the perpetual license means it is "yours to use forever as it is at that point" as you've stated, for many it is also seen as a much more affordable purchase. Yes, newer versions have more bells and whistles in them but not everyone needs those bells and whistles, to say nothing of the issue of once one stops their subscription, they lose the ability to even use the software regardless of how much they've paid to the company. Or does C1's subscription system work so that one simply stops getting the aforementioned new bells and whistles yet can still use the software?
I'm not trying to start an argument, I'm just asking the question.
Thank you.

Im going to wait and see what kind of "Black Friday" or Cyber Monday deals others provide. I really like Capture One, but the last few years it seems that almost any updates or improvements are geared more toward wedding photographers or portraits. For what I do, none of these updates are of any use, so a subscription are rebuying the program every year makes no sense. I would like to see focus stacking, a HDR merge that is on par with others, tools similar to what are offered by Topaz AI. Some of the effects in programs like Luminar are kind of gimmicky, but are attractive to the non pro and more hobby user. Even the Photos app that comes with the Mac has features lacking in Capture One.
Im surprised that the EU doesn't come down on a company selling a perpetual license that really isn't perpetual as pointed out by other here. The EU is quick to attack Apple over a charger cable and other trivial things. Maybe they go softer on companies in Europe.

Randy Becker the difference with Capture One's subscription compared to other software makers is you accrue 20% per year discount towards a perpetual license. After 5 years you can exit the subscription and retain a perpetual license at that version for free. If you exit the subscription program sooner you can get a perpetual license discounted by the amount you have accrued (20%, 40%, 60%, 80% after years 1, 2, 3 and 4) in the loyalty program. Name another software maker offering that. Adobe certainly will never offer that. They have totally abandoned perpetual licenses entirely.
1 -
Walter, so if someone had a perpetual license of Capture One 23, and today purchased a Pro Subscription, at the end of one year would you loose the Pro and need to go back to 23 if you decided not to continue with the subscription? Or would you then have a perpetual license for the Pro version that was available during your subscription term?
0 -
Gene Flanigan The scenario that Walter Rowe describes is that if you have a subscription for 5 years, and then decide to stop, you end up with a free perpetual licence for whatever version you are up to at that time. The whole scheme is described here.
https://www.captureone.com/en/campaign/loyalty-program
It's basically 20% discount off the cost of a perpetual license for each year you have subscribed. So if you had a subscription for one year, you could convert whatever version you were up to at the end of the year to perpetual for 80% of the full price.
Whether you can go back to the older version (23 as mentioned in your question) and just carry on using your old licence key for it, I am not 100% sure. But it looks like it. Here is what I see on my account. I had a perpetual licence for 16.2, but I moved to a subscription, which is currently up too 16.4. I have installed 16.4 on two computers, so I have one activation remaining. But it looks as though I could scrap my subscription and go back to 16.2 with my old subscription. I won't, because I like and use the new features that have come out since then, and like the look of what they have given us teasers of in the newest release that is coming shortly.
You could log on to your account at the Capture One website and see what your Plans and Service Management screen shows.

As Ian said the details are in the link he provided to the Loyalty Program. If you exit the subscription and want a perpetual license you have to purchase the perpetual license for the latest version available. That purchase would be discounted by the amount of accrued discount based on how many years you have been a subscriber. After 5 years at 20% accrual per year you have accrued 100% discount so the "price" for the perpetual license conversion is FREE.

Peter Postmus, there are no known issues with Capture One 16.3 running on macOS Sequoia.

This kind of announcement is useless as only a few people use this forum and this is not a good idea. You suppose to send emails or make an announcement on social medias. Besides, you are not updating the current status to the public.

Frank Schroeter Ehh, ok, but Ian Wilson mentioned here that it's safest to assume it's not compatible? https://support.captureone.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/21648791403293/comments/22261490672285
Given that C1 doesn’t officially support 16.3 on Sequoia, where would I find whether there are known issues in the first place?

Walter Rowe What you said about the discount after 5 years is certainly true with regards to Adobe. However, I did have a look at what they offer, and I signed up for a trial at $9.99 per month. For that it gives me the same basic programs that are offered by Capture One for $21.58 per month plus full Photoshop and 20GB of cloud storage. So after 5 years of Capture One subscription I would have spent $1294.80 vs $599 for Lightroom. With the $695 saved I could buy the latest Capture One with $400 left over or maybe an iPad or new iPhone.
I like the interface of Capture One better, I think it's more elegant, however the updates the past few years seem geared much more for wedding or portrait photography. The last wedding I shot was in the late 1980's with my RB67 pro S.

I feel like we're in a similar situation. Though I'm also looking for geotagging support (filtering by location, showing on map, etc). But I'd definitely welcome better AI noise reduction and HDR merge functionality as well.
Im surprised that the EU doesn't come down on a company selling a perpetual license that really isn't perpetual as pointed out by other here. The EU is quick to attack Apple over a charger cable and other trivial things. Maybe they go softer on companies in Europe.
I think that's a very different matter. The EU forced all smartphone manufacturers to go with USB-C for their wired charging port because that kind of standardisation leads (in theory) to less e-waste. The EU was also the driving force behind those companies adopting micro-USB at the time. That's why they stopped with the "Nokia charger", "Sony Ericsson charger", "Motorola charger", etc. The difference being that it was voluntary, and that it allowed companies to offer an adapter, which is what Apple did.
But anyway, that’s a far cry from dictating what kind of pricing/licensing a company can and cannot offer.
