In effect, if I had gone for the subscription in good-faith that Capture One was actually going to deliver on the promise of always keeping me up-to-date with all of the newest features (proceeded to pay into the loyalty scheme for two years) and then they released the new Studio package/ tier with exclusive features at a higher rate, would that not be considered fraud?

Yes Firstname, you got it right. They took away ressources from the Pro Edition development and put them on the Studio Edition development to get more money at same cost. This is a bit of guessing, but if this was'nt true, then the private equity investor of C1 would have done a poor job. Promises don't count in this business, it is not fraud but a trick, and the most liberal form of capitalism, there are no "owners", no morality, only investors.

Walter, unless they disclose figures it is all assumption, mine and yours.

There are new features in the regular Pro version. How many since your version I don't know since I don't know which version you are on. My understanding is that the reason for a different price for Studio is that there are a number of features in it that many of us wouldn't want or need, and wouldn't like having to pay for if we weren't working in a studio environment.

Whether the features that have been added to the regular Pro version are things you would value depends very much on you . There are always users who say that they see nothing in a new version that interests them while others are pleased that the feature they have been long hoping for has now come along. So we are all different in what we hope for and use.

But staring with Capture One 15.0.0 (aka Capture One 22) new features in Pro have included

    • panorama stitching
    • HDR merging
    • Capture One Live
    • Auto keystone feature
    • Magic Brush and Magic Eraser
    • Smart adjustments
    • Ability to add variants to albums (one of the things that leave some people cold, and have been long-asked for by others)
    • Moving background adjustments to a new layer
    • Wireless tethering
    • Auto dust removal tool
    • AI masking
    • Copying AI masks between images
    • AI crop (though there is a more advanced version of this in Studio)

And there may be some that I have missed. As well as those, of course, there has been support for quite a few new cameras and lenses.

So it's up to you whether you find any of that useful. For myself, some of those features I use very regularly, and some of them I have never used and I'm not likely to.

BeO .. I encourage you to re-read the release notes for all the 16.4 updates. There have been significant updates in Pro. Saying the company shifted resources from Pro to Studio is a mischaracterization. They provided many updates to Pro AND delivered Studio.

Features = investment + resources. Your assertion was all their investment + resources were diverted to Studio. The steady release of new features in Pro indicates your assertion cannot be accurate.

Nowhere does it say they took away all resources:

"They took away ressources from the Pro Edition development and put them on the Studio Edition development"

Thanks Thomas, I didn't mean all. And maybe I'm wrong and they hired additional staff, just hard to believe when looking at the last couple of years, the trend is clear.

They put all resources into Studio. They just need to restrict or block some of its functionality and call it Pro. No added cost. They provide one installer. Literally all their software is the same except it has some functionality blocked depending on licence/subscription trier you are at.
