Vintage lenses - Edit metadata

No you cannot edit EXIF tags, as they are read directly from image and stored inside catalog.
Only IPTC metadata is allowed to be edited. Exif metadata may dramatically change how C1 process images, and considered by C1 as holy grail that should not be changed by any case.
    Sorry to disappoint you.

    Thanks Andriy.

Yes, they are stored inside the catalog, so C1 could allow to edit them without touching the raw files.

Sure. But I am allowed to set different lens profiles, base characteristics which also affects how C1 process images, and I can make a lot of bad adjustments which also affects how C1 process images. All of them can be reset, there could be a reset for metadata too.

Protecting the user from making bad modifications by not allowing him to make modifications at all sounds silly.

And NOT having a focal length or used aperture can affect an image processing worse then a manually set focal length or aperture, when in future C1 takes this information into account for some smart algorithm.

So, it makes actually a lot of sense to let user change Exif data.

This sounds more like an excuse in my ears, actually. I have outlined a real use case, taking it from there and making up ones mind how and under which circumstances there would be a solution or enhancment request for a use case would be open-minded. Or argue that it is not a high priority use case amongst the customer base.

    cheers.

P.S. Edit: excuse in advance, I don't want to rant but cannot find better phrases right now, limited brain capacity in this very minute... 😊)

Hi, BeO. Just to be precise I was not making excuse. Rather explaining logic behind it.

Yes, your desire is valid but given how C1 approaches data stored inside RAW files I do not see your feature request ever happen.
We explicitly asked around same question about changing any value inside RAW file during our POCP class and got explicit NO.

    Thanks Andriy,

I was asking to change values in the catalog, not the RAW file. Anyway, I have the feeling it will never happen, have to live with it...

I totally agree the RAW should not be touched at all, that's the reason I don't "exiftool" it.

For example, I once received a file, which ran through exiftool before, in order to develop it with C1 but it could not be opened (ACR can). So, even if C1 could open slightly modified RAWs (which I could try out) I would not rely on a newer version doing so, or any other future raw developer I might possbily choose in a the future.
(I might possbily think of storing each RAW twice, hmm...)

    Cheers
