I'm not sure if the Windows version works the same way, but on the Mac you can select what applications show up in the "Edit With" menu from Capture One's Plugins preferences. Maybe Affinity Photo got unselected somehow?

Does it help if you (via Windows Control Panel...) set Affinity Photo as a standard program for one of the file types Capture One knows how to handle, say filetype ".nef", and then start Capture One?

"when I select "EDIT WITH" or "OPEN WITH". I have to go to BROWSE and locate the Affinity Photo .exe file and select it each time I want to edit with Affinity Photo."

Has anyone found a solution for this on Windows?

Affinity Photo doesn't show up in the list to check.

There are two plugins in the Mac version in preferences, one for Open with and one for Edit with?

    Thanks

I see it in my system.

If you don't see it it suggests that Affinity has, for some reason, not registered the relevant file type with Windows as something it can work with.

Have you checked that the file type is supported by Affinity?

If it is simply a registration problem go into the Windows system and to File Associations. Create the association between the file type and Affinity. If Windows forces you to do that by making the application the "default" for the file type just accpet that and then reset the preferred default.

Back in C1 preferences for the plug-ins Affinity Photo should now appear and can be ticked to make it one of the options available when using Open with or Edit with without having to Browse to it every time.

    HTH.

A question to all Windows users: How many plugins do you see in the preferences, one for Open with and one for Edit with? Or only the Open with plugin?

    Thanks

Hey - google couldn't help - i hope one of you can :(

My problem is, that only paint is in the plugin-selection.
Not even the Windows-Open-With app cant be selected.
My very nice Capture One -> Affinity Photo workflow is totally destroyed :(
I tried to use the browser on the "Edit with..."-Feature, but Affinity Photo couldn't get started. Windows doesn't allow starting the photo.exe, because of thees admin-thing.

    I only need the Windows-open-with-app :'(

Can try to make Photo.exe your default in Windows for the file types you want to pass from C1 to Affinity? If it works you can later change it again if you like. That is theory though.

I have a question regarding editing multiple variants at the same time in Affinity. Can you select variants you want to have stacked or from which you want to create a panorama from, call Edit with in C1 and pass them to Affinity, do your stacking or stitching there and save a tif file to show up in C1?

I mean, can you do so usually / in general (in a C1 Windows version), assuming your Edit with or Open with issue is not present.

    Thanks

If you send multiple images at the same time Affinity will see them all as individual images and open them in what seems likely to be the most appropriate Persona. (Assuming you are not sending RAW files!

After that you are into to normal Affnity processing.

The file you send back would most likely need to be "sync'd" in some way depending on whether you were using Catalog or session or had previously generated a file with the same name.

It's been a while since Iast used it and I also need to check to see of the latest Affinity release changes anything.

    Thanks Grant,

I haven't used Affinity yet and because the trial period is somewhat short I really appreciate your response for a matter I would normally try out myself. If there is a half way decent workflow, Affinity seems to be worth giving it a try.

I didn't do much stacking yet, and an old PS version was sufficient for the rare occurences. For panoramas I usually use MS ICE but the workflow is not really integrated with C1 because ICE would open as many times as I send images to edit with, each in its own ICE process. Other than that, ICE is easy to use, sufficient for my taste, and free.

I think I will give Affinity a try.

    Thanks

    Hello,

    Thanks for your fast help.

i could reach the appearance of Windows picture viewer in my plugins.
In will choose this in 'Edit with...'
In wpv i can choose Affinity Photo as an alternativ app.

This workflow is okay for me :)

I downloaded and installed Affinity Photo yesterday, it installed and registered correctly. In C1 20.0.2 I can Edit and Open with as it should be. Did you check the file extension default programs?

    Panoramas

On a side note, multiple images can open in Affinty when called by Edit with in C1 but these opened images are useless if you want to do a panorama or other stacking, as Affinity cannot create a panorama from already opened images, you need to call a  special wizard, then open the images with a explorer dialog, not even drag and drop is possible, and then destructively stitch your panorama. Maybe Serif should not have looked too close at PS when designing this panorama wizard. The seams of the stitching are barely recognisable most of the time, I had one crash, no projection options, the only good thing is the brush, but the brush is absolutly needed in AP because of this bug with dirty areas in many highlight portions adjacent to high contrast edges. The warp tool did not work for me very well (maybe with more experience) to improve the stitch when needed. But for some panoramas it created a good result, projection-wise,  apart from these dirty areas.

    I thought so too.

But if Affinity would allow to make panos, focus merge etc. from opened images e.e, in the photo persona, this would benefit all Affinity users as they could go back and fourth, and even if merging is not non-destructive, this would decrease the manual steps in such a case.

    Hi there,

I'd experienced this issue as well but since resolved it. Hopefully, this post helps.

    OddS suggestion is right.

I had changed the file type of the sony raw file via properties and forgotten I'd did that.

So prior to that mistake C1 showed Affinity Photo, Designer, and Publisher in both the "Edit with" and "Open with" via contextual menu.

The problem with the disappearance of Affinity Photo happen after I'd had made the raw file changed.

You can change the file type in either the properties (right-click on the file, select Properties then change "Open with" setting or via the Window Settings.

Window Start menu > Settings > Apps > Default apps > Choose default apps by file type > scroll to your file type that you use in capture one > click on the icon to the right > Choose Affinity Photo when the Choose An App contextual window popup then you are done.

Go to capture one and check it out in "Edit with" and "Open with." Affinity Photo appears as an option.

I'd test it by reverting back-and-forth between Photo and C1 as the default app and see AP appear and disappeared from the contextual menu.

    No AP option

    With AP option

    Cheers,

    TW

This is driving me crazy... Capture One 21 (Sony Express) crashes when opening images in my external editor, Affinity Photo. This new behavior for me since 14.3 and I'm on Mac OS 11.5

I've gone to Preferences and setup up plugins, and by choosing 'Other' from menu drop-down. I get the file (TIFF) builder window, and CO21 crashes when I attempt to 'Save' file.

Can you help me get back to standard behavior? Thanks
