Previews needed for files on local disk?
Good evening,
I have avery strange question: Do I really need Previews if I have all my images on the local disk of any permanently connected external disk? I am asking as the previews take quite some space (size 2560) and I was wondering if it did not make sense to just use the lowest resolution available (640).
Thanks for your input,
Mercator

Hi Mercator,
CO8 always uses the previews, no matter you use session or catalogs, no matter where your images are stored. The recommended size of previews is the amount of pixels of your monitor (rule of thumb) horizontally.
A larger preview gives you more zoom-in capabilities before CO8 needs to access the original raw file. Small previews are not recommended as CO8 must always read the entire raw again and again when you make a move.0 -
Thanks a lot, that helps!
Have a great evening,
