Opening up files from another application

How can I open up a file from a different application and be able to instantly start editing my images without having to locate them again through capture one. Like for it to automatically create a new catalog or session, or importing it directly to the current catalog/session, but without, as I said, having to locate my file(s) again via capture one. Is this possible?

    Should be possible with sessions, not with catalog. Catalog requires import to create a link to the image.
