After updating to the latest version, I've only had the error message when viewing photos whose adjustment masks were created (and lost) in previous versions.

Yeah I was experiencing the same, but this session was created on Friday and I've just opened it to do some retouching and it's just happened. So I figure this bug has not been fixed.

    That's bad news.

I tested this as soon as 13.1.3.9 was released and with an image or two it seemed to be ok... HOWEVER I shot a large job on Saturday (on location on laptop) and then on return copied them to desktop.

Any images processed have lost their adjustment layers, whereas those not processed have retained the layers.

This has happened both on the original laptop, and the copied session.

    So... NOT FIXED at all!

    Response please from Phase One?

First of all I can't believe I'm posting this and NOT Capture One support!

Here is their most recent reply, and I have their permission to post this...

Looks like this is a specific issue that was not covered by the fixes in 13.1.3.

There is a workaround to avoid getting into the situation – before pressing "Process" (or "Print" etc.) do one of the following things:
    - change variant (back and forth);
    - switch to another application and back to Capture One;
    - close and reopen the session/catalog.

As we share no details on future development, I can't give you an ETA for the fix.
I'd like to reassure you R&D is aware and they work on this.

I have used the last option of close & re-open session before shutting down or transferring and it seems to work!

So we should make all of our adjustments and either switch to another app and back (or quit CO and reopen) and THEN Process the images and the adjustments should be retained? I was afraid to not Process anything in case it gets lost before I Processed them out...but that would have been the fix? Lol. That’s obviously not ideal, but if that works for now I could actually start using CO again. Thanks!

    Hi Will,

What I have done is... photograph and process as normal. Before shutting down machine quit and reopen CO (I think just changing session will work just as well) Then when I shut down and restart computer the masks are retained.

In my case this usually happens on location, and on return, was unable to access adjustments, if I wanted to re-edit on a desktop machine.

As you say... at least it's a workaround!

I see. This is curious because I never shut down my machine (my MacBook is also in quarantine, lol). And I don’t use sessions, only catalogs, but I do occasionally switch from one catalog to another (my 2020 and 2019 one for instance) and still get those errors. But again, I’ve been processing each image immediately after adjustments in case they get lost, but it sounds like you’re saying if I made the adjustments and closed out and reopened the catalog before I process the images the adjustments might be retained. I’ll try that with one random image I’ve never adjusted and see what happens. My fear was the whole catalog was somehow corrupted, but if it’s isolated to every single image and its adjustments and a simple close out could fix this I could deal with it for now. Thanks again!

I just wanted to add my voice to the pile, every time I open C1 (13.1.1.24, 2017 macbook pro 15) the event box shows one or multiple errors loading masks I've previously made using clone tools. Extremely frustrating.

    David,

IS the problem with NEW work or older images form earlier times?

    Hi David,

I'd be interested in the specifics too, previously shot on CO21 or newly shot with CO22

Currently my CO 21 is working like a dream, and "once bitten twice shy" - thus I have been reluctant to upgrade.

    Peter,

For Macs (specifically Macs as I recall) there seems to have been an issue in some cases (I don't think it affected everyone) where the mask files were written to file but with no content. This was in V21 times.

According to the release notes issued in recent times this occurrence was addressed and corrected but of course, the empty files may well have gone unnoticed for long enough that no recovery from backup was possible.

I don't recall seeing anything about lost masks being reported as a specific V22 issue but I may have missed it or mis-remembered. And of course I would be concerned about such an event just in case it also affected Windows users.

Very much appreciate the comments SFA, agreed I haven't had the problem since pre v21.

My current 14.4.1.16 is working perfectly and I will upgrade to newest version at some point!

In honesty that masks issue was the only major problem I encountered since the version that came with the 6mp LightPhase back!

This thread is pretty old, but I'm having this mask issue with C1-23.  16.0.2

Daniel, I was one of the original people who had this problem with v20 (I think) Finally C1 admitted that (a) there was a bug (b) it wouldn't be fixed with incremental updates (c) it was fixed in v21 (where I still am)

Push C1 support for a diagnosis for your case and keep at it.

For me I created multiple masks on laptop on location, shut down, and on return the masks were there but the content was gone, totally unacceptable!

FYI when I upgraded to v21 this was provided to me as a free upgrade (as a gesture)

Good look! and bombard support as they are now on the "Adobe yellow brick road"!

That's the same issue I'm having...I create the masks, but when I come back the mask is still there, but it's empty.  The weird thing is that the preview on the right hand side still has the masked view, but as soon as you click on it, the mask fails and the preview reverts to a mask-less view.

I have a ticket open but they said that they couldn't replicate the program.  I did a screen recording and created a new session, created masks for four or five images, closed and reopened the session, an all the masks failed.

Thank you for the feedback, though.  It's somewhat comforting to hear that you reached some sort of acceptable resolution in your issue.

I'm getting the same problem on C1 v22 build15.4.2.10. The mask is still there but the adjustments are absent. I can't believe that the error has existed for 3 yrs without a reliable solution.

    Hi Stuart,

My problems were with the first deployment of version 16.0.  The problem does seem to be resolved with the latest deployment.  For me, the catalyst was creating masks and then moving the image to the Selects category.  This kind of sucks because sometimes I want to make some quick edits to see which image is the better one.

I was able to work around this for a while by not creating masks before moving the image to the Selects file.  It's kinda clunky for "pro" software, but at least I could move forward.

I had a ticket open, but it was tough.  I was initially told that their development team could not replicate the error.  I did a screen recording showing 100% failure with a fresh session, creating masks on images, moving them to the selects folder, closing C1, opening C1, and then every single mask was gone.  That got more attention, and like I said, the issue seems to be resolved (even though I didn't see it listed on the bug fixes for the release).  Clipchamp is included with W11 and was the free option for screen recording that I used.  Good luck.

    Hi Daniel,

Your reply is interesting. I seem to loose the mask just upon opening a folder. In the next 2 days I will investigate it more thoroughly and pick it up with C1 support as it is obviously not solved. It's very disappointing as I have just finished cataloguing 30,000 photos and may have lost many with mask adjustments.

    Hi Daniel,

Having lost all the contents of my masks I have applied one again to a sample and the mask and its contents seem to be preserved when I sign on again. The only thing that I can think that I have changed before I lost the mask contents was that in Preferences I changed the default C1 engine from 12 to 20/21. I wonder if this caused the lost mask contents ( and just prior to I changed the default I changed it from 12 to 20/21 just for the odd image). Incidentally I was very surprised to see that the engine default was on still on 12 and had not been upgraded ( if only by request) when applying previous  C1 updates. I have postponed lodging a C! support ticket until I get another mask error.
