This has been requested (at least) twice before – here and here. Quite a popular request.

Thanks Thomas, good to know that I am not alone in wanting this functionality.

I've requested it a few times and I keep getting told to make smart catalogues. I had an issue just yesterday where a client needed all their photos due to a computer error from multiple shoots across several months, and I had to open each one, select the photos and export one session at a time. Multi-folder or sub folder accessibility is one of the few things I miss from Lightroom's UI

    Hi Mark,

    Thank you for your post.

This feature was requested by other users as well, so I will also add your comment regarding the option to see the contents of subfolders when the master folder is selected and forward it to the Product Management team.

This is also a frustrating behavior when it comes to the folder totals.  It's like showing a building has no people inside, but as you open each room you see people.  Getting a total isn't possible, so you have to write down all of the individual folder totals and add them up.  Not very handy.  The same goes for seeing a gallery of all of the subfolders in one place.  One would think this would be a common requirement for image software, and sure enough, it is... just not in Capture One.

This item has been marked as "completed", but as far as I can tell, it still doesn't work. Does this mean it will be implemented in the next version?

Lily marks them as completed when she picks a feature request from here and passes it to product management. It does not mean that it will be implemented, it might or might not.

    Yeah It's a real shame.

Currently I am using "export originals" to essentially create selects to a dedicated selects folder using tokens to generates sub folders based on "image folder" and adds "Selects" at the end of the file name.

I wanted to create a smart album which filters all images in the session hierarchy and show me the images with "selects" in the name.

However because these images are nested under different folder names and aren't added to the sessions favourites they are not detected. It would make more sense that smart albums work for any folder structure within the session.

Yes, it is a bit of a pain, especially because I have had to completely reorganise my folder structure because Capture One does not allow the reading of folder sub-structures. It has made what should have been an easy move across from Lightroom quite difficult. If Capture One wants to make some headway then it needs to make it as easy as possible to make the move.

I can't understand how this hasn't been implemented yet.  It's been years that this has been an issue, and still no movement from C1.  It's a major barrier to moving 100% to C1. It allows for importing with subfolders, so the process to read them is obviously there, so I don't understand how viewing them isn't a thing yet.  PLEASE add this functionality.

It is a pain.. I am not sure if there is resistance in the within Capture One personnel, it is not seen as a priority, or if there is something within the software that makes it technically difficult to implement. We shall have to see what happens, hopefully the blockage whatever it is will dissappear sooner rather than later.

@Mark It is frustrating that one never receives feedback as to why a suggestion is not followed. Such feedback could include responses like "not compatible with C1's overall philosophy", "requires major implementation effort", "not popular enough", "low priority", "will likely make it into one of the future releases", etc.

Based on the feedback one could decide for oneself whether it is worth sticking around.

Just to give you an indication of how hard it can be to get a reasonable request fulfilled: The idea of allowing C1 to overwite exported files (instead of writing renamed variants) has been made nine years ago already, has then been endorsed by the "Image Alchemist" (Paul Steunebrink), and has since been repeatedly requested by independent submitters many times.

Still, no option has been provided to date, and in particular, no reason as to why not.

I note that Lightroom is catching up in the colour editing department but C1 keeps lagging behind Lightroom in multiple areas (and I'm not talking about maps or book creation).

This is just about the only reason I won't make the switch from Lightroom to C1. I know at least half a dozen other photographers who express the same feeling. I don't know how the developers could ignore this issue for as long as they have, but as long as they continue to do so, I will remain a Lightroom user.

@Class A, I am not sure how it works in Capture One or how decisions are made...it's a mystery🤔. I do use other software and interact on other forums and some of the companies actually get involved in the forum, interact with users and are very open with reasoning...that would be refreshing wouldn't it 😊.

"… that would be refreshing wouldn't it"

That would indeed be an improvement.

Alexander Flemming, the product manager, is often on Facebook.

However, even when he acknowledges a suggestion as a "great idea", it still won't come to a future version.

He also seems unaware of well-documented bugs in C1.

Yes, please do implement this - it's the one thing keeping me from leaving Lightroom, as I also explained here: https://support.captureone.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360014198838-How-to-select-files-in-multiple-folders-If-not-possible-what-is-the-next-best-alternative-Albums-cannot-be-nested
