Scaled watermark on crop
ImplementedCould the crop function be updated with an automatic watermark scaling ?
Very annoying to crop a picture and have a result where the watermark is xx times bigger than expected because its size has not been kept in relation with the crop factor.

Yes, Please! Huge waste of time adjusting watermark size for each different crop. I do wildlife so each crop is different.

Exactly my situation - hence the request.

Hi Claude,
In the Watermark tab of the Process Recipe tool, choose the Points option from the Kind drop-down menu.
That way, the watermark size would be proportional to the image size whether it is cropped or not.

Hello Lily,
Thank you for this, but it doesn't fit the purpose.
As you describe it (and tested accordingly), the size of the watermark remains the same.
But it is not proportional to the size of the picture. If, to say, it would be 10/2 cms wide/high when in full picture, it should be 5/1 if cropped by 50%. I don't see this happening.
Or is it maybe because I use a token, and those would react another way ?

Lily,
I agree with Claude. I have the same experience that he has.
As an aside, why are there 2 "Kind" dropdown boxes in your screenshots? The second one should be "Size".

With regard to the "Kind" dropdown boxes, in v13.1.0.162 (which I'm running), the dropdown box that defines whether the units are pixels or points is labeled "Size", the online documentation example also has 2 "Kind" dropdown boxes.
I wonder what versions Lily and Claude are running and if that is affecting the behavior?

Latest 13,1,0,172 (88td215) MacOS for me - and it says "kind" and "kind" ...
Well spotted - a cosmetic bug ?
Or something deeper ?0 -
Hi Lily,
Thanks. The solution suggested by you does work when I use Text based watermarks.
But how does one go about it when one wants to use image based watermarks? I have been struggling to resize the watermark (image-based) to the scale of the cropped image and even at the minimum scale (25), the watermark is enormous and is way outside the image. Is there any way out? In fact, at scale 25, the watermark is huge even on the full sized image without a crop.

I think with Image based watermarks you have have version of the image in the various sizes you might use.
As most use will be for predefined sized that may not be a big issue but is less than convenient. However any other solution might mean some rather extensive pixel mapping based resizing options need to be introduced.
For text based watermarks there used to be a similar situation - I have not checked to see if it changes for V20 or 20.1
The challenge was that the scaling was somewhat constrained by the font size selected (Using Windows 7) and so would only scale within a limited range for a given font size and the type of font.
I looked into this briefly in V20 and decided something seemed different but as it's not something central to my recent needs I have not spent a lot of time on it. No great insights to offer at the moment but perhaps a suggestion of something to look into.

Hi,
Thank you all for the comments and clarifications on this topic.
Based on those, I will submit the request to the Product Management team.
The watermark size is now inversely proportional to the image size (cropped images have bigger watermarks), while the request implies that the watermark size (for both text- and image-based watermarks) should be directly proportional to the cropped image size. For instance, if the watermark occupies 1/10 of the original image size, it should also occupy 1/10 of the cropped image size.
Thanks,
Lily

Lily,
If the Product Management team feels that there is some value in the current method, can they add a check box to change the behavior to the new method?

Hi Lily,
A simple and straightforward option as provided for by Lightroom and Alien Skin Exposure (both of which I have used & I do use Exposure still when required) to resize and drag an image based watermark at the desired spot, would be so much better.
Thanks.

Jeff and Aditya,
Thanks for sharing the options that could enhance the watermarking workflow.
Your suggestions are also taken on board.

Still no joy ?

hi Lily,
I have used CO 8,9,10,11,12 and now on latest version CO 21 and I still see issue with watermark sizing for cropped images.
No mater what Kind(pixel or points) I choose, no mater what "size" of the font I choose and what "scale" of the text - For smaller watermarks it is Very Blurry and not readable.
Please let me know if there is solution.

Not a solution, but a workaround:
Go to onlinepngtools.com... In the "type to search" box, type "resize". Click "resize a PNG". Click in the grey box on the left and select your watermark from your files. Now, simply grab the corner of the box and adjust the size. On the "resized png" box to the right, click the "save as". Click download, click download again. Now you have a nicely resized watermark, drag/open it in the watermark section within Capture One, adjust the scale and use the move tool to drag your watermark into your desired position.
Of course, it would be great if there were more functionality in the watermark section. Hopefully this will come with an update.
