Feature requests
Hi,
After processing only two batches of stock images and one recent wedding with Capture One 4 (so please forgive my ignorance) I have the following observations and feature requests:
First the compliments:
Coming from Lightroom (and ACR in several iterations before that), I have to say I much prefer the layout of C1-4 over its predecessors. I can't comment on changes in workflow compared to the Pro versions though. It has its quirks, but after reading this forum I've worked out how to handle copying adjustments and processing multiple images (the infamous shift-D combo). That all works for me.
More important: colour rendition is in my opinion vastly superior to Lightroom/ACR and Aperture. Especially reds and yellows and highlight gradations stick out. Simply superb: resulting images are stunning, colour-wise.
Then the bad stuff:
Detail. I'm loosing a bit compared to LR. It can be subtle at times but there is definitely a loss. For normal prints this will not be an issue, but when blowing things up it is. I haven't been able to work around this with the current sharpening and noise reduction algorithms. Noise rendition isn't up to standards (it gets spiky quite soon when applying sharpening), but I could live with that if there was more detail left in the image to work with in Photoshop (not that I prefer this as a workflow for weddings for instance). This alone might be the reason I will stick to LR, only to use C1-4 occasionally when I absolutely need it for better colours.
And lastly some things I'm missing:
1. hot pixel removal - it might be incorporated in noise reduction but even with NR set to 0 I would like hot pixels to be removed;
2. clone/heal tool;
3. embedded IPTC/XMP support; I use Photo Mechanic to add this at the time of ingestion but C1-4 tosses it out all the same which means I have to go back to Photo Mechanic to reprocess all resulting JPG's;
4. full screen mode like LR and Aperture have;
5. a way to assign a default curve in the base characteristics panel (I prefer the high contrast curve over the standard curve for most of my wedding images);
6. standard exposure +1 for images that have been shot using Highlight Tone Priority on newer Canon models (don't know which ones have this feature but the 1D III definitely has).
At least having 1 and 2 implemented (plus changes in the amount of detail) would make this a one stop shop for processing my RAW images.
That would be it for now (should be more than enough for a first post...).
