Capture One and macOS Catalina
Just before anybody asks:
macOS Catalina is in best case available as BETA-SW (for developers) in the moment
1) Do not expect a Capture One release supporting macOS Catalina before macOS Catalina is officially released
2) Do not expect a Capture One release supporting macOS Catalina before Phase One has made its checks (and possibly needed corrections / amendments)
As conclusion: trust that Phase One will start to check their SW for issues but do not expect any official release supporting macOS Catalina earlier than some time after the official release (to the public) of macOS Catalina.
Anyhow, if you are brave enough to test how Capture One works on the Beta-Releases of macOS Catalina, let Phase One know about problems (as support case?)

most exciting news for me today are ipadOS and Sidecar....really hoping for an iPad tethered C1 version and full Sidecar integration....a dream set up....
yes and that new screen looks nice as well....0 -
I was using Luna display since a while but with this new Sidecar, I might look to upgrade my iPad to a later one and what benefits it brings different than Luna.
Another exiting announcement was, iPad can read external drives. This means CO can write the app as the software heavily depends on folders. So maybe we can see an iPad version soon.
But more enthusiastically, I am waiting for those first few comments where users buy good spec new Mac Pro with new 6K monitor and having performance issues with CO and CO team says there system is not good enough 😄0 -

Frankly speaking, IMHO, this new Mac Pro will be very useful for high level movie makers. No use and no need for waisting money if it is only for Capture One or Photoshop 😄0 -
Capture One runs significantly slower in Catalina in my limited testing with it. I believe this is because although OpenCL was depreciated in Mojave, it’s now officially unsupported in Catalina. I had to disable graphics switching in order to even utilize the discrete gpu. Any computationally intensive task leads to a lot of stuttering and skipping within the interface, and tools like the radial mask and especially the luma mask are very difficult to use. I’m going to disable hardware acceleration and see how that compares. I really hope the dev team are working on migrating from OpenCL to Metal; I’ll happily test some Capture One betas! 0 -

Then do.
As a Windows user I have nothing much to offer but you could sign up and provide useful input.

I am no longer able to get C1 12 to recognize my camera for tethered shooting either. I have a Fuji XT-3 with the latest firmware to date, and I am able to see it in the MacOS Image Capture utility only. If any one has luck with that or any other brand camera I'd like to hear how you were able to get it recognized. [quote="SFA" wrote:

Is there a way to do so that you are aware of? I included that in the case that any staff read my post. I have a support case open with this information already.0 -

Don't worry !! Phase One is for sure aware of this big change, and they will provide in due time a version working with Metal and no longer using OpenCL.0 -
And I hope while they are working on integrating Metal, they will work on their GPU usage as well. What I mean with this is, CO uses GPU for very limited calculations. Take Luma masking for instance, all the calculations of Luma masking is done by CPU (according my Activity Monitor) and GPU is just awaiting there. Wouldn't it be better for a software to attack all the available sources to make the calculations faster? 0 -
Same with Canon 5DSR and Capture One 12 !
Seems that the camera mounts (showing the tethered file copy mode on the camera screen) but neither CP12 nor Canon’s proprietary software (EOS Utility 3) can connect to it. It’s not working thru WIFI either (with the WiFi SD card dongle for Canon).
I suspect this has to do with the depreciation of 32bits software and drivers under macOS 10.15, not CP12 which Is working well under this Beta OS.[quote="Nebes" wrote:

even if catalina will release officially this year, do not expect C1 V12 be compatible..95% they will release V13 supporting it, so you have to purchase upgrade.
have a nice day 😊0 -
there are no surprises here....everybody knew the new mac OS was coming, there is no reason C1 would not be compatible on the day it is officially released.....public beta is already available....
the bigger question is when will C1 catch up in speed and iOs integration....its crazy how much faster LR is and i dont consider adobe in any way apple friendly (premier on mac is a joke compared to fcpx or davinci)....0 -

Phase One always say that they can't bring in compatibility with a new OS version on the day of its release because Apple can, and sometimes does, make changes to the OS from the beta version at the very last minute. However, I would be very surprised if Phase One wasn't already working on Catalina compatibility. But I would much rather have a new version that had been tested with the final release of the OS than something that had been rushed out with fingers crossed in the hope that it would work. (Not that I am likely to be able to run Catalina on my existing computers! But if I could, I would also be unlikely to upgrade my OS on the first day either.)

Log in to your C1 account to see what activity options are available. There could be something there. I cannot be sure since I have previously registered.0 -
Tethering does't work with osx Catalina

Not surprising since Catalina is still only in beta and Capture One doesn't support Catalina.

Not related to Phase One C1 ... the software works fine under Catalina.
Canon's proprietary utility doesn't connect either.
Apple's Photos app can see the camera, and download the pictures from it, but tethered shooting seems that it's not working at all (tried with adobe software, not working).
C1 is not to blame here. It is 100% on the USB bus on Apple side.0 -

I've been testing Catalina, iPadIOS 13 with Sidecar etc and C1 was working fairly well, no crashing as yet, same with Photoshop.
I did notice that from time to time the external PCIe hardrive I use would not connect on one of the usb c ports. I reset SMC and it started working again... however, teetering still unavailable in Catalina.
Sidecar works great with C1 and PS, even in wireless mode. Seems to work best when using 5g WiFi network.
Just installing the Adobe LR CC version to see how that works between the devices and see if I can tweak my workflow to use LR for initial processing and output to a C1 session for styles & keywording as LR only supports alphabetical ordering of keywords. I saying for LR as part of my CC package so if I can use it it does mean when C1 applies their annual doubling of the upgrade costs, I can ditch the need to upgrade each time.
Edit...
Just tried connecting a Sony A7riii to LR CC & C1 as Mass Storage and both connected fine. I can't test tethering on the LR Classic as it doesn't support the Sony A7riii cameras but tethering on C1 is definitely broken but as I can't test LR, I'm not able to say whether this is a C1 problem or an issue with Catalina USB C ports.0 -
My Sony cameras wont connect to Catalina either. 0 -
Connecting any camera will work for mass storage but not for tethered shooting.
Something is « broken » due to the changes they made with the drivers. No more system extension it is now part of DriverKit thing.
I suspect that tethering librairies under macos are related to the old system.
Same goes for Wacom tablets, they are not planning to release anything until the final release of macOS Catalina.
A new beta should come pretty quick (already here for iOS and iPados) so let’s hope they’ll fix that.
Anything else works fine with this os update, I haven’t seen any issue with C1 or photoshop for now.0 -
Just updated my Catalina install to beta 5. My Nikon still won't appear in Capture One or Lightroom. It does appear as a storage card in Photos. I want to upgrade to Catalina when it's released so I can get access to some new development features. But I can't give up tethered capture in C1.
BTW, installing Catalina on a separate external drive.0 -

I just installed the newly released Catalina beta 6. CO now sees my tethered Nikon D850. No real testing other than to open live view--that works.0 -
Tethered support for Sony A7RIII would be key for me to jump on the beta....so far everything (PS, LR, C1) I really need seems to work just fine with the betas....really want to be able to use sidecar! 0 -
Just installed the latest Catalina beta 6 on an external HD, so far everything works fine, tethered capture with sony A7RIII works perfectly....
interestingly it saysâ€No lens information†under Sony ILCE-7RM3 although I am shooting with a Sony lens that is usually identified....other then that it seems just like working in 10.14...
Will have to try ipadOS beta to check out sidecar...0 -
I have the same problem with a Canon 5d Mark III, I tried going back to C1 11, getting the same results, now I understand why.
Please help, is there and expected fix in the way? Any suggestions will be welcome.
Thanks.

Have you tried this (Assuming you have V12...)
12.1.5 Bug Fixes Mac
Fixed an issue where tethering would not work correctly on MacOS Catalina 10.15.2
Latest (and presumably final) V12 release.0 -
Does anyone know if this works yet? I updated my software to OS X 10.15.2 and Capture 12.15.1 and it isn't working.
Any help would be great!0 -

Hi, yes I've cant get tethering to work either with catalina. Have a canon 5d MkIII and the latest versions of capture one 20 and 12. tried almost everything including the business with granting permission to capture one in the 'Security and Privacy' setting of system settings.
I have a windows computer with the same up-to-date versions of capture one and tethering work perfectly. I've also test the usb port on my mac with other usb devices and they work fine also. Looks as though this catalina patch didn't fix everything????
hoping this gets fixed as pretty much halts jobs that require me to use tethering.0 -
Check this too:
On your Mac, go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy tab > Photo app (left column) > Capture One 12 > set the check mark.0 -
