7.1.3 - What's new?
Is there a page on the PhaseOne site or a particular forum topic that outlines the updates made version-to-version (i.e. what's different between 7.1.2 and 7.1.3)? I'd love to stay on top of the updates, but only if improvements were made to features I use (if it ain't broke, don't fix it). Thanks!

Most certainly, it's just below the spot where you enter your email address to download CO7 itself. 0 -
See Documentation link.
There seems to be some useful new features.
There is beta support for the importing of Lightroom Catalogs plus some extra camera RAW support, plus bug fixes.0 -
There it is! Release notes- perfect. Thank you. 0 -
The number one new thing in 7.1.3 that I am geeked about is that tethered capture for Canon is vastly improved for environments where photographers do things such as turning off the camera before all the files have transfered, pulling the tether cable out, etc. Reconnecting without restart is far more reliable. Huge time saver for me. 0 -
I just tried 7.1.3, one final go I thought.
When quitting the app it just hung my Macbook completely. Force quit took around 3 mins during which time my laptop was barely useable. Eventually I got the all too familiar message that C1 at had crashed.
I cannot understand why the developers are working on stuff like Lightroom catalog imports when the basic program still requires so much work.
I still haven't heard back from the sales team after 5 days ! I asked for a refund as the app is really only beta quality software at best.0 -
I can understand you're miffed, but calling this "beta quality software at best" is a little far fetched.
The fact that you experience problems doesn't make this beta software. Perhaps you care to share what system you're using (other than it's a MBP), so other users can verify they see the same behaviour. Also the actions you were doing prior to the crash will help.
Going with the little info you give though, i've never experienced this, except when i load a large batch of photos, say over ~250/300 at once. Doesn't matter whether MBP (16GB, SSD, 10.8.4) or MacPro (48GB, SSD, 10.8.4).0 -
The one thing I have noticed so far is that 7.1.3 processes tiffs like a MFer. It is seriously fast...
I have been able to deliver a couple of 2000 frame jobs before I left set...nice. Please don't go changing'0 -

250/300 photos is not a lot, it shouldn't be mis-behaving like this.
I use an iMac quad core i5 10GB ram and a Macbook Quad core i7 16GB ram. Both machines running the latest OSX version and updates, master files on firewire 800 drive. I have experienced many crashes while moving images in folders, adding to collections and exporting. I could not remove a folder from my catalog, the app continually crashed when trying to do so. I have also had several catalogs become corrupted due to the crashes. I have 7000 test photos in a catalog at present. I imported the 7000 images in one go without issue which was good π
Just starting capture one gives me the spinning beach ball as it tries to reference the master files every time, both Aperture and Lightroom don't have this issue and they running on the same hardware.
Maybe its the catalog that is giving me so much trouble. Using sessions may be the way forward but I bought version 7 because it had catalog functionality.
I had much less trouble with the Lightroom 5 beta so I don't think calling this software "beta quality" is really that far fetched to be honest π
I will try giving sessions a go and see if that helps but I don't really want to work in sessions for the long run.0 -
Oh, but i'm willing to agree with you that the system shouldn't crash when it's presented with a large load of work, it should just take longer.
My remark about the beta quality is aimed at the fact that one (or some) functions, which you obviously find important, don't work well, doesn't a beta software make.
However, i've stated more often on this forum, that the catalogs in CO7 are not there for me, so i'm sticking to sessions.
I must say, though, i recently used a catalog for a shooting session and it worked very well actually for me. So, for some purposes, i will be looking into the catalog function more.
All in all, i don't think we are disagreeing too much π π π0 -
Hi all
Has anyone experience with the Lightroom import yet? I think that I am doing this correctly, but the documentation for this beta feature is not good.
I decided in the interests of time to export a catalog from LR5 with the minimum of embedded information (basically I just want to get the metadata across but not the LR adjustments). I did not embed the negatives in the catalog (thinking about a port of the large catalog with over 100'000 images in its subfolders).
This catalog imported like a dream into C1 (thank you C1) and imported the metadata keywords that Iwanted as well as GPS coordinates for geotagged files.
My question is simple. I have done nothing to link the images to the location of the original files (although the original file names are correctly present in the metadata but without full path). As far as I can tell, I am genuinely working with the CR2 files and not just low-res previews ... can anyone confirm that there is no linkage step required? I guess the full path to the raw file is embedded in the metadata in a less than transparent manner.
It would also be good to confirm my (mark one eyeball) belief that this way of working results in the C1 ICC profiles being applied to the mages (this seems to be the case from the Base Characteristics panel.
Thanks in advance for any input and also thanks to C1 for this feature that will make the migration of old catalogs with keywords a realistic option.

sizzlingbadger - I'm running 7.1.3 with sessions for client projects because I know it's stable and I'm experimenting with the catalog when I have time. I don't think the catalog is as stable as feature rich as I would like yet, but given that they have Medio Pro to work with as a base, I do believe it's is going to improve. The thing I like with session is that they are very fast, even on an older MBP with the session on an external firewire 800 drive. I tried LR5... it might be stable, but it was making me crazy with how slow it was while browsing a folder full of images. I also couldn't get by the fact that I just like the way CO7 renders images when compared to LR5. Of course this is all just opinion, but maybe try sessions and move to catalogs when you believe they are completely stable. Importing a session into a catalog works great, so the time spent in sessions isn't going to be wasted. 0 -
I finally received a reply from the Sales team (10 days later), they do not do refunds. So there is NZ$300 completely wasted unless they step up their game and get the catalog working as it is advertised to work. 0 -

Did you try the 60 day trial?0 -
sizzlingbadger,
I can understand your frustration, however have you actually tried working with support and submitting a ticket as well as the crash reports?
They cannot identify your problem (which is somewhat rare), unless you do.
I've experienced some problems which nobody else seems to have too, and have found them nothing but helpful. The problems I experienced in 7.1.2 were then fixed in 7.1.3
I helped myself by helping PhaseOne though. I submitted a ticket, gave them everything they needed and requested, performed the tests they asked me too and they were nothing but professional and helpful.
The result, it now works as I expected.
Just yesterday I notified them that I was experiencing some problems with colours on files imported into 7.1.2 from a Ricoh GR (which wasn't officially supported under 7.1.2, but now is in 7.1.3). Drew was very helpful, and gave me a way to fix the problem. When I didn't understand exactly what he was saying, he got me to install an app on my MBP that allowed him to take control of it and he was able to show me exactly what to do.
You won't get support like that from Apple or Adobe! Your images won't look as good when processed using Aperture or Lightroom either!!
So, my advice, submit a ticket, supply as much detail as you can and supply the crash reports.0 -
I did try the 60 day trial but only used about 1200 images while I was getting familiar with the program. I got to grips with quite quickly and liked the results so I went ahead bought a license.
The catalog functionality was the main reason I decided to try and move from Lightroom, previous versions of Capture One didn't have a catalog so I was always put off using it. I think it is he catalog that causes most of the problems and do I expect teething troubles with it because of that.
7.1.3 does seem to be much better. With a fresh catalog I now get a stable program but it still doesn't perform all that well sometimes.
I went back to using Lightroom this last week or so and it was like a breath of fresh air. No spinning beach ball, no crashes, no waiting at start up for the catalog to "seemingly" relink with all the image files. Lens correction when I wanted it not when the app felt like it π
I can also export / import images as catalogs in LR which makes moving them from my laptop to my main computer much easier. I haven't found a way to this with C1 yet. Something I should have investigated further before buying the license I guess.
The main problem is "time" I just don't have time to fight with the software and raise tickets, I need something reliable and LR fits that bill at present.
If I could get a refund for C1 now I would take it and maybe try the trial again in a years time. Sales support attitude have left a bitter taste in my mouth though. Adobe will give refunds so that definitely goes in their favour.
Tech support have been great, answering my updates quickly. I also like he fact that new updates to the software are coming out quickly too so that goes in Phase One's favour.0 -
I guess the silver lining would be you now own a license, so when the next major update comes out you can do a trial on that and if (big IF) everything works as it is supposed to then you only need to purchase a upgrade license. 0 -
How about a dual-software approach...
A photographer friend uses Capture One for raw conversions and basic processing and Lightroom for image management/further editing.
She imports into a Capture One session, sets the black and white points and white balance. She then exports a tiff in the Prophoto color space over to Lightroom and that tiff is what's edited (or not) from then on. The raw files are left in a Capture One session and archived.
She explained and showed me her workflow to me a month or so ago, and it added little extra time and gained the benefits of Capture One's superior raw conversions with Lightroom's superior catalog management and integration with many of the third-party plugins. It's something I'm considering doing.0 -
The only problem with that workflow is huge tif files, I would probably use Aperture instead of Lightroom too if I went down that route as I find it even more powerful as an asset management system. Aperture lacks lens correction and good noise reduction but that would be taken care of in C1.
I would prefer to be able to work on the raw if I could. I'm going to give C1 another go and try not to rely so heavily on the Catalog feature. I'm going to use the catalog but be very careful about what I do with images so that I can workaround the current limitations.
I have renamed all files by date so that they appear in the correct order even when sorting by name which C1 seems intent on doing for all new folders.
I have a new copy of all the masters no longer shared with Lightroom so that files don't go missing or get moved outside C1's control.
The only other big issue I have is working remotely on a laptop in a catalog and then importing that into my main catalog. I will probably have to use sessions on the laptop and then import them instead.0 -
working without a crash for two days now.
thatΓΒ΄s new for me since updating to c1 7.x0 -
Morning sizzling badger, I thought I might mention my current workflow with the hope that you might find and idea that will help you in your quest. I keep my projects in CO sessions, which can easily be moved between systems. I do my selections in CO, which is quick and then I will take the finals as far as possible using the CO tools. I the export my final selects to tiff files, run through Photoshop if necessary, and send then import into Aperture where they are cataloged. I then use Aperture to print, crop, resize output etc. I only have my final selects cataloged and keyworded, but I'm ok with that. The only think I'm missing is the ability to use VSCO presets as a way to explore different looks with my images. I bought LR and tried to switch only because I liked what VSCO is doing, but LR just doesn't hold up against the quality and speed of the CO and Aperture combined. Of course I'm not saying this is right for you, but there might be an idea in there that helps. 0 -
I forgot to mention, I use zip compressed tiff tiles, which does help with the size issue. 0 -
Badger, I have the same issues as you. I have finally decided to give up on C1 in its full capacity and just use it it as a raw convertor. I'm not saying this out of frustration, but just being objective.
Lightroom will be my DAM and printing vehicle until C1 gets the catalog together. When that day comes, C1 will take the place as my primary tool.
And by the way, I tried using Media Pro again, and it is a much better catalog system. However its integration with C1 doesn't work for me.0 -
Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I'm still playing with C1 catalogs at present and so far its not been too bad. I will give sessions a go at some point as they seem to fix most of my issues with moving images around and photoshop integration.
Session seem to work well for new images but I wonder if it could be time consuming creating sessions for say 50,000 images that have already been but into a date structured hierarchy. I will have to read up on them a bit more as I don't fully understand how they work. I know its just folder based but searching / filtering etc must be slower than a database.0
