I was thinking the same thing. Really would like to see v4 sooner than later.

They need to get their act together as there are a lot of good raw converters on the market now and C3 is looking old in the tooth.

It's not the first time Capture One 4 was delayed. The initial announcement stated that LE would be available by the end of 2006, and that the professional version would be available soon after the first of the year.

I wonder what sort of problems they're having with it - apparently there are some. I'd be interested in beta testing it.

It is ridiculous that there is absolutely no communication to the users of delays. This is very bad. Look at the way Lightroom was introduced. Why can that not be the case with Capture One. Probably they have too much self esteem for that and I regret that. For me Capture One was the best RAW converter available due to speed, detail and color rendering and sharpness. However Lightroom is very very very close now. Lightroom has listened to its beta testers. Imagine what could have happened if Capture One had listened to their beta testers !! The RAW converter evolved out of that would have been world class and first in the market. But....................................

I'd hoped to at least see a beta at Focus last month, but nothing. When I enquired at the Phase One stand I was told that it would be mentioned in passing in one of the talks later in the day. I didn't bother to stay .... ☹️

well it is the same story yet again and again!!!
just sit tight and wait, why is it that every time there is a new version no one wants to wait, furthermore they scream and shout at P1 untill it comes out.

Please guys do what i do - wait until they release it and enjoy using it

Seriously, if we don't hear something soon, I can imagine users abandoning C1 in droves for Lightroom. I love C1, but right now I'm struggling with the choice of moving to Lightroom or staying with C1. Unfortunately, right now Lightroom is miles ahead in functionality.

Could we PLEASE have some official information?

    Well Erik,
I've been waiting for almost three years now. There where talk about 4.0 in late 2004 which would give us window users most, if not all, of the features in the mac version.
I'm one the former SE users who got upgraded to Pro in spring 2005. First we where supposed to be upgraded to Pro with the next major release (V4) in the fall of 2005. That was however changed and we where upgraded to Pro with 3.7. I've been waiting for 4.0 ever since then.

Steve is right in that Lightroom is very tempting. I've been watching several tutorial videos, I even bought the tutorials from luminous landscape. The more I look into lightroom the more I like what I see.
I expect to receive my new pc by the end of this week and the first thing I will do is download the trial version of lightroom.
If I can get similar results from the new version of ACR in lightroom, why should I stay with C1? Especially since Phaseone don't wan't to tell us what new features there are in 4.0.
I've been reading the press release a couple of times and the more I think about it I have a feeling that 4.0 will have a new gui and some new features but thats it.
If the IQ out of lightroom is similar and with LR having many more features I think the choice will be easy.

well i was not aware that we should have expected ver4 in 2004, i have used Lightroom and it is amazing indeed, there are 5 times more adjustment settings then C1PRO especially - the hue saturation and luminance adjustments that will blow your mind up, furthermore they work on my nikon D2X, Kodak SLRn and surprise Phase1 P45 (only untethered as the file is too big if you capture from a pc or mac) not only that but it does the same to jpegs and tifs, there are some issues with software bugs such as "not enough memory" but i guess by the time it is working correctly surely Phase1 will come out with a blasting version 4.

    Sorry Erik,

What I ment to say was that there where talk about a v 4.0 in 2004 but it was supposed to be released in 2005. But after that PO has changed their release plans so many times that I don't know what to expect anymore. I really thought that at least the 4.0 LE version would be released about the same time as LR so that you could do at least some comparisons. Unfortunately this did not happen.
And with the latest change now just saying that 4.0 will be available in 2007 I doubt if Pro will be available this year at all.

As for LR I'm really looking forward to give it a try.

This is a long long thread but I want to answer the last post.

First release date that was ever given was during 2006 and never 2005.
Yes it is delayed and we are looking towards a release of Capture One LE in Q2 of 2007 and PRO/DB during the later part of 2007.

    Hi Ulf Liljegren,

Thanks for giving a tentative date. Looking forward to the Version 4 😎. Btw. if Phase One needs beta testers for Version 4, count me in. I would love to test it under XP 64 bit even though it may not be officially supported. I am a happy user of CaptureOne Pro under XP 64 bit for more than a year now.

    Best regards,

I'm sorry Ulf but this is not completely true.
When SE was discontinued in 2004 it was said that SE users would be upgraded to Pro with the next major release in the second half of 2005. That major release was supposed to be 4.0. Later you changed that and SE users was upgraded to Pro with 3.7 in the spring of 2005. However, there was still talk about a major release in the fall of 2005 (supposedly 4.0). Here's a quote from PO upgrade policy for SE users:

"If you are a C1 SE customer who has also purchased the "5 pack update", you will be upgraded to C1 PRO beginning with the Spring release. As with all C1 PRO upgrades this will include 2 additional free major updates, in this case, Fall 2005 and Spring 2006."

You see? In late 2004/early 2005 PO is still talking about a major release in 2005 and also a major release in 2006. Then I believe PO must have made changes of their plans about 4.0 (complete rewrite of the code?) because after 3.7 was released, the release of 4.0 has been pushed in to the future several times. But this does not change the fact that late 2004 there was talk about a version 4.0 to be released in 2005. So your announcement of 4.0 last year does not change the fact that I've been waiting for 4.0 since late 2004 😊

And yes, I'm entitled to two free Pro upgrades so I will get 4.0 and the release after that (whenever that will be). So even if I buy lightroom I can use C1 if I decide to.

I have also been waiting for V4, and will continue to wait patiently. I'm sure they are taking their time to work all the bugs out and adding all the new features.

I also volunteer my services for beta testing, if beta testers are needed. I will be doing a wedding this weekend and could test with those images 😊

well quite surprised to have my comment removed not sure why - please explain

Ray made an interesting point which if it is not rumour and it is in fact correct then his and my comments should have not been removed.

love to know from Phase1 what if any is correct

there nothing wrong by telling the truth

i cannot see why i have violated the terms, simply trying to get the right information

I'm puzzled why any Capture One owner would be drooling over Lightroom? I tried both, Lightroom is slow as could be. Capture One moves like nothing I have ever seen before.

I just purchased it this week and after a bit of problems activating it, I'm tickled to death with the program. I cannot believe how quickly I processed 20 images last night. I've not been any happier with any piece of software that I've purchased before.

I agree. I spent a short time with LR and hated it. It has many problems,
but the biggest is purple fringing. Color fidelity doesn't compare with
C1, unless you do a lot of tweaking, and even still, it's not as good.

For me, the C1 interface is perfect. Everything is where is should be and
it's so easy to drop files onto the queue and let them rip.

Robert, if they do feel the need to add a few bells and whistles, I sure hope that preserving that speed is a serious main concern in the next version. I'm so tickled after getting this program that I went ahead an ordered another 4gb card to shoot nothing but raw files from this point on when I purchased this program.

Yesterday, I went to visit my nephew who's a photography major and finishes up this spring. There was a friend of his there at his house who's a grad student, also in photography. Remarkably, neither had heard of the program. We downloaded the trial and put it on my nephew's lap top. As we looked it over together, both of them were shocked at how fast the program runs and how good of a job they were able to do setting their white balance. I should have been paid commission on that one! 😂

We're getting a little OT here, but there's nothing wrong in spreading the
    good word.

I shoot 100% RAW and use the histogram for my exposures. When I load
up my files into C1, I'm flat-out amazed at how good they look - exposure,
contrast, and saturation are near perfect. About the only thing I do is pull down
saturation a tad, since C1 seems to boost it somewhat.

C1 is also killer, when it comes to white balance. No matter how difficult
the lighting, I can always get it right.

I love the entire layout, from A to Z. The tabbed functions are great and very
easy to navigate. C1 runs like a champ on my 3.6 P4, with only 1 GB ram.
If version 4 adds some additional features, and increases the speed, I'll
    be a very happy camper.

As point 2 of the forum rules say: Discussion of rumors is not permitted.

What you wrote does as all rumors, have a fragment of truth, but what you wrote was highly inaccurate and by that a violation of the forums rules.

What happened you would not know unless you were a employee of Phase One during this period and for me to discuss this in a forum or other wise would be wrong and completely unethical. I would hope that any person that is employed at a company or a owner of a business with employees will understand and respect this position.

We pride our self on having a open door policy, among others provide a forum like this where you do not even need to register to read posts.

Currently a "Beta" version is being shown in NYC.
My associate happend to be at a rental studio that had a copy of it.
By all accounts it has a few chanegs in the GUI, and is faster overall.
No other details because he could not sit down with it alone.

Our Phase One contacts have told us that they expect C1 Pro V.4.0 to be released with the release of the P+ series backs which are expected by June 2007. (this conversation with in the last 10 minutes of this post.)

There have been two National Photography Conventions this year:

    Imaging USA and WPPI-
Funny that Phase One nor Capture One had any presence at either show. Lightroom, Aperture had a huge presence that over 15,000 attendees witnessed. Seminars, booth programs, etc.

I am an avid Capture One user, but just purchased Lightroom. Though it is only version, 1- ADOBE IS LISTENING and reacting in a positve sense. Version 1.1 is not far away. The very idea to convert to DNG is a big plus, as how knows in the next 5 years, if it will become a RAW standard and we'll have the advantage down the road.

How about a bit more communication Phase One with your USERS.... Keep us posted, and address the reason for delays... I.E.- is it because of your digital backs?
    Thanks,
    Michael

    Hello

Only North American show we have done is Photo Plus East which also is the largest one.
Beside this we did a 25 city road show. When it comes to listening to endusers, the road show has been far more productive then doing tradeshows due to a more constuctive one on one situation while on a trade show you hardly get more then 5 - 10 min with people.

Due to the success last year we will do a 15 city seminar this year, more details to be announced.

I feel this thread has said what is need to be said so I will close this now.
