metadata copy and crop
Hi all,
Just a curious effect I have observed from version 11 : when I try to copy metadata from a cropped image to others, the double arrow and "apply" click copies not only the metadata but also the crop 🤓
Maybe I am doing something wrong ?
Did anybody else observe that ?
Thanks.
Otherwise, I'll submit a case.
Cheers,
Robert

Hi Robert,
I think the default is to copy the crop. For my workflow I usually prefer this as the final crop is one of the last things I do anyway. I almost always have a crop requirement. The size and position will often vary as I rarely shoot fixed groups of Landscape or Studio shots so the consistent aspect of the clipboard functionality is compromised by my subject matter. So just getting a crop added is fine for me - I will adjust size and placement later with a few clicks.
You should be able to de-select the crop settings in the Clipboard copy routine once you have copied to the clipboard and before you paste to the target variant.
However, so far as I can tell, the default settings for what to copy to the clipboard are either all adjustments or nothing (by default). And even then there seem to be some anomalies - for example keywords appear to be ignored unless one specifically includes them. (In most cases this is probably the right thing to do BUT it is an area for possible confusion and therefore for possible enhancement in my opinion. There may well be several other similar clipboard features to do with other settings to take into account.)

Thanks Grant.
What I have just understood, by applying some adjustments and copying them, is that when you click on the double arrow of the metadata, an "adjustment clipboard" window opens with only the metadata set available, which suggests that only these parameters would be copied. But this is not the case, and you copy ALL the adjustments, including the crop, exposure parameters (e.g. contrast, exposure, saturation), if by chance you omitted to deselect them in the global adjustment clipboard. Actually, the double arrow in the metadata tool works in the same way as the global arrows in the main toolbar, rather than copying only the metadata.
I'll submit this to the Phase One team. But maybe it's just a feature....
Edit : I usually apply crop first, as the histograms are then related to the cropped area rather than to the whole image, making easier and more relevant the exposure, curves,... adjustments.0 -

Using the double arrow in the Metadata tool with my Windows installation only seems to provide relevant metadata updates in so fat that other fields are not overwritten if already populated.
Because it's generally an "under the hood" sort of update - even when visible! - and there are certainly different default action considerations to take into account (always adjust or only adjust of there is no current adjustment for the field? And just what decision CAN you make about Keywords?) I think we need to be extremely careful about understanding exactly what the design concept rules are for each section, or even field, in the Clip Board tool functionality.
I'm happy with the results I get from its use and so I have little inclination to dig deeper just to understand everything about it even if I don't currently use everything. Well, other than understanding these things is sort of interesting ...

UP :
I have submitted a case to the Phase One team. They have been very efficient, asked me if I were ready for a screen share, what we did. They couldn't reproduce this "bug" in their office, only on my computer through the screenshare, and they suggested to go to a clean install of C1. What I did, and it works !!
Thanks Phase One for your efficiency and your time !!0
