Are you serious about update price politic??
Really 159€ Update from 11pro? You must be kidding! You just lost a customer but I‘m sure you don‘t even care!

Sadly I'm too heavily invested in the C1 catalog or I'd be out too. Not only is the price ridiculous, it's VERY hard to find on the website (unlike the purchase price). I guess I'll just be strolling along with the catalog and gradually migrating to other editing software.
I'd even consider going to the dark side if Adobe come up with an effective option for catalog export/import. Meantime, fingers crossed for Affinity Photo coming up with a compatible DAM.
Not a good day for Capture One from all the negative stuff that's hitting the bulletin boards.0 -
It is Very bad news, How come? and also by mistake, I opened my catalogue from 11 in new version !!! and after 12 version I can't open anymore in capture one 11, I will not afford 12 version to buy it
It is so sad you don't have any discount program to your regular customers
Tomorrow my birthday day - a great gift from phase one - thank you 😭0 -
179 EUR for CO 10 Upgrades. 😄
But CO 10 has all I need and the new features arn't so sexy and needful to spend 180 EUR. At the end of the day the supply and demand will regulate the market.
Maybe PhaseOne tries to sell subscriptions. 😉0 -

I agree. It was with CO11, if I recall correctly. But it is missing now. I have notified Phase One.0 -
plus, users from 11 can only upgrade (Perpetual license) £ 109 and no options to Subscription?
I believe in this case should be £ 77 (last year I already paid £70) - it will be fair
It is only for Sony/Fuji0 -
i just bought v11 in sept 2018....i can't upgrade to v12? is this a joke? 0 -

I may have missed something or had an incorrect setting somewhere but it told me the upgrade from 11 to 12 was £189.
£109 is still too much but not so ridiculous.
If I have to stay with C1 because of the investment in the catalog (and learning) the good news about the minimal improvements for the maximum price that we are seeing in recent years is that I can stay with 12 for around 3 years and then just buy V15 or 16 and save a heap. There may even be enough real improvements by then to make it worth the wait.0 -

as far as i know a recent purchaser can upgrade to version 12 free.0 -

You'll be surprised what areas of this software will leap frog others in terms of feature release but bugs from ~8/9/10/11/12/13/14/15 will still be prevalent.
I'd say voting with your wallet and skipping some releases is the right direction. I thought contributing monthly dollars to the software would heed some consistent development progress but the echo's of the past remain clear.
The biggest insult is not including camera support, or bug fixes for the previous releases. With this pricing at least the previous version or two should see the same bug fixes and camera support as the latest version.
Either way, each year the harp of confused and upset customers rings louder.0 -
So new license purchasers get “free†styles while loyal users get a 20% price increase again!
Sorry Phase One but too little, too late, too expensive. Since I upgraded to v8 in 2014 at £86 the price has steadily risen to £149 in 2018.
I’ve just signed up again to the “industry leading softwareâ€, Adobe, where I get Lightroom, Photoshop, Lightroom on all my devices and more for 20% less than your upgrade price. Not to mention that the new gradient masks now works as LR’s has for years, a new radial gradient mask that has been in LR for years, a plug-in architecture which has been in LR since it’s inception.
Looks like a case of playing catch-up from where I’m standing and all at an inflated price.0 -

this is getting out of hand....0 -
I have a PC. 2016 upgrade was $89us and 2017 upgrade was $107us. Now a year later they want 149us. Nope not good.
I use sessions so no big deal that I don't upgrade. Horrible upgrade price!0 -
So last year a 20% increase in upgrade price, this year 50% increase. I wonder what next year and the year after will bring?
After 2 years of requests, Capture One still does not show the lens type/name on JPEGs from Panasonic cameras. This is essential information that I expect from an expensive piece of software.
I can get Adobe Lightroom for a much better price. I will start a trial this weekend.0 -

What has change is not only the price but also the fact that between two versions there are no more intermediate upgrades (except for minor changes, new cameras support, and bugs corrections). With the previous release (I use C1 since V6) new major version would occurs every 18 month and in the meantime Phase one would offer new features. Not any more ! One version every year with an upgrade price more expensive than a year subscription for Lightroom + Photoshop . In the end what’s the difference with the subscription model ?
Beside what’s really new which justify the upgrade tag. Luminosity masking, Ok great improvement ! Radial mask If you want … new icons and sliders !! are you kidding me ?
I like C1 but I’ll skipped this one.0 -

How do you arrive at a 50% increase? Last year I paid $129, this year $149. That’s a 15.5% increase. Both times I used one of the ambassador discounts of 10% to lower the price, but that doesn’t change the arithmetic. Just curious how you got to 50.
FWIW, I ditched my Adobe subscription when I started the 12 beta. As much as I hate these yearly price hikes, I still prefer C1. And with the 10% discount on $149, no tax added, I arrive at more or less the same price as Adobe charges, 12x $9.99 plus tax. When the price hikes continue like this, my opinion will however change sometime in the future.
edit: I think I was wrong. Last year I paid $119 and I now think that was without 10% discount. That would make this a 25% price hike. Still not 50% but not 15% either.
edit 2: I'd hate to see you go, Eric. You're a great source of information on this forum!0 -

As far as I can see you cannot import a C1 catalog to LR. This of course assumes you have a managed catalog - it may be time to future-proof and switch to a referenced catalog.0 -
Emile, see my post at top. I'm with the PC. Last year in dec, I paid $107 us upgrade 20% increase from 2016.
This year is 40% increase from last year because now upgrade is 149.99 us0 -

Yeah, I think I might have been mistaken with the $129. I checked and last year I paid $119. That probably was without 10%, which explains your $107. That discount is available now too which results in an upgrade of $134, so the price hike is 25%.
Still pretty steep. I remember when I upgraded for 69 euros and I'm talking just a few years ago. It's still worth it to me but obviously they can't continue raising prices 20 or 25% every year...0 -

Last year I paid $107USD for the upgrade, which would be $143 CAD at todays exchange rate. This year I'm being asked to pay $206 CAD, which is a 44% increase. Buit I didn't take into account using a discount code, Some math indicates that I likely used one last year. This year that would bring the cost down to $186 CAD, 30% exactly. This is a little more manageable.[quote="Emile" wrote:
Thanks for the comparison! Perhaps the reasoning is that the value of this product is similar to that of Lightroom. Probably about right then.

But then they should properly look after things like missing lens metadata; it annoys me considerably that after much time and a few requests they STILL do not report the lens meatadata from Panasonic JPEGS, unlike their competition. And Lightroom.[quote="Emile" wrote:
I agree. Its a 30% increase this year, and a 20% increase last year. I wonder about next year and the year after. One of these years soon I will retire and then these prices will not be negligible, although then I will have time to spend on photograghy.
When the price hikes continue like this, my opinion will however change sometime in the future.

Well, two things kept me using C1, over the years.. The workflow first and foremost and later the fact of no subscription, as an option. I see now that my version 9 license can be upgraded for U.S $ 189 and my v10 license for $169. They used to upgrade every two or three years, then every year. I got the v7-v9 upgrade for $89, then I think it was $119 for my other license to go from v8 to v10. I always skipped like that with my two sets of licenses, not for the savings, but to have the latest and still have an older version in case things started crashing, as in how version 11 was so unreliable for me. Now they penalize you, if you take that approach, so I'm going to let the older license just stay until it won't run anymore, and see about this new one.
Once, a long while back, before any other software maker had it cross their mind, Phase One "got it". It was about speed, speed of processing, sure, but more importantly, the speed and efficiency of the workflow. I think they still "get it" that same way. Now when many other Raw processors also have a lot of strengths, I still think that Capture One is the best in that way but maybe now it's also that I'm so used to my groove with the software. And I don't want to change, though I too was pretty much shocked at the increase, especially when the upgrade path is going to cost the same as subscription.
But, once the initial shock wears off and the bigger picture forms, I do still have a choice, something Adobe took from me and it's not really the money. Heck, look at the cost of everything going up. How is a company supposed to put out quality reliable software today, at ten year old pricing?
No, for myself, it's more about two other details. Is the software going to be reliable, firstly. Most releases have had a few bugs but less than most other softwares and they do get fixed, and fixed quite fast as well. Is the workflow going to "flow" for me and is re-learning going to be worth my while - or is it going to be another disruption next year? That is what I'm most focused and nervous about right now. If it is, the upgrade price is fine. Why would we bicker in the days when a tripod by RSS can cost $1400 US? Let's get some perspective.
I wish Phase One would be a lot more open about future plans, and maybe talk about targets a bit more, sort of like Some companies put up a lens roadmap. Some change is good. However, change of change's sake and constant re-learning is not good.
I'll give v12 a fair tryout. Fiftly bucks over a year shouldn't cause this much consternation. Heck, that doesn't even keep me in coffee. 😊0 -
I also remember when my company first bought version 3, the price was $500 US, and 500 back then in bought a lot more than it does today. Then, with version six, I believe it was, Phase One DROPPED the price by almost half, to 299. Pretty sweet, but quickly taken for granted. And now we get three seats per license, also more generous than the industry standard.
So lets see how good version two is, or is not. But don't get me started on the cost of beer nowadays - that's the real problem in this world! 😉0 -
I was getting ready to buy C12 between I saw how the price jumped no way, Im wondering if they will even upgrade Sony express or just keep it the way it is for awhile.
I might just use that and wait for sometime of sale or just use something else for my work flow0 -
Holy cow, looks like I’m now actively on the market for a new RAW editor, these prices are no longer sustainable for me and it’s just too risky for me to get trapped in the C1P ecosystem now. I’m feeling the same way about Apple too. I’ve been using C1P since around v7 and back then it did offer real advantages in terms of RAW quality but the pricing for annual updates, and other dodgy behaviour such as converting catalogues on trials without making an automatic backup copy means I’m exiting... C1 is good but there’s also a lot of limitations and there are some new RAW editors coming out that I’d be more than happy to switch too... I don’t particular care about past edits anyway because if I need to reprint a file I’ll always re-edit in the new raw system anyway. That’s the beauty of RAW. Thank Christ we at least have that. 0 -

Can you actually still buy 11 or is it discontinued? what are the names of these new editors. If I would have upgraded yesterday 11 would have cost me 119.00 but then it meant I would have to pay more for 12. Very confused with what they are trying to do with their marketing. 0 -
I began with Capture One way back when it was Version 2 and have followed it's development through the years. Phase One as a company has changed a lot since those early days. Sadly it seems that the accountants are now running the show and that is a red flag for me! 0 -
C1 is worth every penny. I started with C1 v10 and my workflow got so much faster and my picture editing improved a lot. I don't mind paying more for something which has more value than other products. So the comparison to Apple isn't fair at all. 0
