How to spec a PC for C1? (coming from a Mac)
I've been using C1 for a while on my mid-2011 iMac. My poor computer can barely take the load. It gets wicked hot when drawing masks with my Huion display tablet or when outputting 30+ megapixel JPG files. I've had it reboot in the middle of working on my images. I'm due for a new computer - no doubt!
A new 27" iMac costs about $1800. That's a lot of money for me. I was wondering if I could get more power-for-the dollar if I purchased a Windows based PC. It seems like I could. This PC would have to carry me for 5+ years. My PowerPC iMac ran for 7 before the power supply blew a capacitor and my current iMac is still running strong.
I'm overwhelmed at the possible combinations of hardware available for a PC. There are way too many video cards with powerful GPU's. How do I go about picking one? I read benchmark tests and I have no idea what these numbers mean. They all seem to be centered around gaming which I don't do or understand. Do I just close my eyes and pick one knowing it will probably be faster than what I have now?
Thanks! 😊

figure out the actual budget you can spend is it the $1800 or ?
god i7 7700k and a 1060 could be built for that with good power supply good storage etc..
really depends on what iMac you are looking at for that also ?
this is comparable to their higher end no monitor of course

$1800

this would beat a imac easy but the thing is what else do you do ? and what other programs do you use ?
switching IMHO is something you have to think about and want to do
I switched this month to a PC and am happy but I spent quite a bit more and built a system that no mac can compete with at this point
the iMac is a nice machine a decent monitor and if you are used to the OS and have other programs you use etc.. switching might not be worth it
list what other programs you use and what you want to do might help others give some thoughts
do you need monitor if you built a PC ?0 -
4th Gen i5 K model and a Radeon 580 0 -
Ryzen 5 1600(X) - six cores are great deal for C1 with 16gb RAM and RX480/580GPU and SSD or two. 0
