Request for stacked or grouped images
Capture One Pro
Until recently I have been working with three programs, Capture one for my tethering, Lightroom for my cataloguing and RAW adjustments and Photoshop for my retouching. I’m aware this is not a particularly streamlined approach and as I’ve become increasingly frustrated with Lightroom (and wary of it’s future as a cloud app) I started exploring Capture One Pro (v 10). I also discovered while talking to others online that I am very typical of a freelance pro photographer, there are many of us using several apps like this that seriously overlap in abilities. So I decided to look more carefully into the full features of Capture One and updated to 11 after having read reviews. It was a lot easier to use, in particular the catalogue section and more powerful than I had previously believed. It would certainly be able to fully replace Lightroom in my workflow and even partially replace my reliance on Photoshop. But most importantly it would streamline my workflow and save me time.
However one single missing feature has stopped me moving over full time and that is (as far as I can tell and have researched - if I am wrong I would be delighted to find it so) that it does not have the ability to stack or group images together. This may seem like a minor feature but for me is essential for organising my catalogue. In particular I keep my portfolio with both RAW and TIFF versions and seeing two of everything each time is far too distracting and time consuming. I also do some macro work with multiple images for focus stacking and it’s far too messy to keep track of all those multiple files. So please if anyone in Capture One is reading this, it’s the one missing feature that is preventing me, and I believe others, from using this powerful program to it’s full extent.

Absolutely!
I added this request to the Capture One 12 wish list in the Windows section:

I agree this a very important feature and it is one I rellay miss since leaving Aperture.
I can duplicate most of this feature with some Applescripts.
I have already got an Applescript that automatically groups images by date and image format.
These 4 properties are inaccessible to those of us without PhaseOne cameras:- Sequence ID: Unique identifier (i.e., IQ back serial number and initial frame number of each sequence).
- Sequence Type: Tool in use (e.g Hyperfocal, HDR, Focus, Time lapse).
- Sequence Count: frame count shown as position (e.g., position 3 (of 7 ).
- Sequence Total:frame count shown as total (e.g sequences comprising of 7 images).
However we can pick 4 other user configurable metatadata fields to substitute; I'm thinking the IPTC Contact group.The the following mapping:- Sequence ID <--> Country
- Sequence Type: <--> Phone
- Sequence Count: <--> Email
- Sequence Total: <--> Website
- Sequence Pick (True/False) --> Postal code
An Applescript Autosorter will be able to populate these fields automatically for an entire project. Groups names will come from the sequence numbers at the end of the first and last image names, and the project name.
Then Filters Tool can be used to view any particular Stack, or view only the stack picks.
Then a little Applescript to set the stack pick, and another to create an album for each group and copy all the group members to the Group Album.
If PhaseOne eventually let's regular users use the sequence fields, then it's easy enough to write an Applescript to move the information from the mapped fields to the sequence fields.
Question for the crowd: Are these tthee best "Unused Metadata Fields" to hijack, if I were to share this? Or are there other less used fields, like Getty images?0
